We will be having a big moving sale soon.
This was my ds's suggestion--sell all those canned goods from the pantry, unexpired, of course, along with unopened toiletries such as toothpaste, etc.
Since I usually end up giving the canned goods away before a move I might as well get something for them!
Also, do you think opened perfume, hand cream, etc would sell? I have a ton of Estee de Lauder perfume, really expensive, most opened but hardly used. I certainly can't take it with us and wouldn't be able to use it up before moving, maybe I could sell it for something? would opened, slightly used items like that sell? The only other thing I could do is toss them, seems a shame, still quite good.
How about opened, used paint, still 3/4 full? There again, can't take that with us

It might sell for a $1-$2 per can, have about 10 cans, maybe an extra $10-$20?
How abut door knobs? We replaced all the door knobs with upgraded handles when we bought our home, have about 20 nice, almost new brass plated door knobs. What should I price them at?
I know I've read about selling bottles of cold water for about 25 cents each, how about coke or soda? Maybe some brownies? I'd buy such items while garage sailing.
What are some other non-standard items that might sell? I usually think of the typical stuff I see at garage sales, usually toys, furniture, books, clothes, knick knacks, etc., all of which I'm planning to sell, but things like slightly used perfume, open paint cans, canned goods, how do they sell?
My biggest problem is the kids toys. Most are not worth taking, but the kids won't part with them. I'm sure they will just be ignored when we arrive, most are outgrown anyways. Of course, they can't get rid of everything, and I realize its a security issue for them, this is the first move they can recall, others they were babies and don't remember. The hardest thing is all their stuffed animals. Both kids have literally a mountain of stuffed toys, there's so many we used them to make a "guest bed" for their cousins last week when visiting! But they insist those are their friends (the animals, not the cousins) and I can't be a "meany" and make them get rid of them. If I could just get rid of a few--but I can imagine the tears seeing their "friends" being sold at a garage sale. So I'm starting to inventory/pack stuffed friends, wash them in the wash machine, pack with some Bounce sheets to keep them fresh, I figure I have at least 10 wardrobe boxes already, but they don't weigh much.
Well, any other ideas for what sells at moving sales? I need to get rid of everything I can--here's another idea--two toilets! We bought 2 new toilets never installed, can't return because don't have receipts. They're still in the box. I really think wherever we go will have toilets

No need to bring our own

Why we bought them in the first place--they're the extra long type, or as my dh calls them, the big and tall man's seat

Well, he never got around to installing them, so I guess he managed all these years! Think that would sell?
How about telephones, tv's, toaster oven, microwave, kitchen appliances,
What a mess if that stuff doesn't sell and I have to haul it all back inside then to the Goodwill
Well, also, what about china? I have a dessert set that belonged to my mother, never used, still in the original packaging, she bought it in England many years ago, but never used so no emotional attachment, would rather get a few dollars and not worry about transporting it. Would it bring a fair price, or should I try selling it on Ebay, or perhaps at a consignment shop?
Any other ideas?
