I'm grumpy because you're dopey... A TR - Final Thoughts 10/15

First off, I am loving the discussion about bubblers/soda. Seriously it is a bubbler. I remember one of my high school teachers (who lived in Illinois for a while) was at a mall and asked where the water fountain was, wanting to get a drink, and someone showed her to the actual fountain (like where you'd throw pennies in the water). :rotfl:

LOL at the conversation with your DH too. Sometimes we'll have conversations like that where we don't know where to go and then someone will suggest something and someone else shoots it down.

I'm all caught up. It really does sound like your DH turned off his brain. Lots of indeciceveness and confussion, for sure.

NE Wisconsin checking in here. Great report. I am anxiously awaiting January when the family and I are hitting the world.

Doesn't your DH know he's in Disney World? haha You handled it much better than I would have. I'm pretty sure there would have been some choice words for wonderful DBF!

I'm jealous of your Everest pics. I always want to have my camera out on that ride, but I'm so afraid it'll go flying!

LOL!! Your husband cracks me up! He did get some good pics, though - what kind of camera is it? I have 3 different cameras, two of which are professional quality, so I never want to take them to WDW. I do have a point and shoot, though, and that's what will be making the trip with us.

Your conversation is like the buzzards on the original Jungle Book :lmao:

Whatcha wanna do

I dunno know. Whatcha wanna do

I dunno know but let's do SOMETHING

ANd do you recall the one who announces, "I've got it, this time I've really got it"

But none of them like his idea so they go back to asking each other what they wanna do.

Sorry, I guess I amuse myself too....

Enjoying your TR. Your DH took some good pic's of EE.

THe picture you took of him after riding KRR :rotfl2:

:lmao::lmao: OMG! Panic and I used to have that routine down pat - horrible British accents and all.

Don't start that again! :rotfl:

Glad you're enjoying the report :goodvibes

I can't believe he didn't loose the camera taking those pictures! They're pretty cool!

I just read your latest updates this morning, and this is the only comment I can write because I have to rush off to work! AGH, I hate not being able to be on DIS often because of work!

:wave2: Thanks for stopping by even though you're busy shaping the youth of America :cutie:

We so need a bubbler smilie on the Dis. Maybe that can be my next TR hook - bubblers around WDW :rotfl: That is so funny about the teacher. If someone asked me where a water fountain was, I would probally direct them to a real fountain too :cutie:

I hate when you're in a group and they can't make a decision to save their collective lives. At least with just DH and I I can storm off, and I know he'll follow me anyway (cuz, I swear despite the tone of this TR he's really a super sweet awesome loving adorable guy!)

I'm all caught up. It really does sound like your DH turned off his brain. Lots of indeciceveness and confussion, for sure.

That is exactly what happened! Poor guy was just exhausted from a long week - Disney was just a little too stimulating for him :rotfl: I promise it gets better.

NE Wisconsin checking in here. Great report. I am anxiously awaiting January when the family and I are hitting the world.

Howdy! :wave2: I think basically have the entire state here :rotfl:

January is my favorite time go to WDW (not that I'm biased at all :cutie:) it's not crowded and not hot - perfect for this cold weather girl!

Hopefully my report (s - before January) will help you while away the long hours before your trip!

I'm jealous of your Everest pics. I always want to have my camera out on that ride, but I'm so afraid it'll go flying!

:rotfl::rotfl: At that point I'm not sure he did know where he was. I'm not going to lie, there may have been a few not-so-disney moments :rolleyes1 He was so out of it. His brain was "off" for sure! DH was equal parts annoying and amusing - so that helped. Plus, I had just been there and we're going back soon. That helped too!

I feel the same way. With as out of it as he was, I'm surprised he held on!

LOL!! Your husband cracks me up! He did get some good pics, though - what kind of camera is it? I have 3 different cameras, two of which are professional quality, so I never want to take them to WDW. I do have a point and shoot, though, and that's what will be making the trip with us.

I'm glad DH was amusing someone :rolleyes1 It's a Cannon Powershot SD1400 IS. We're not patient enough to try anything better than a point and shoot.

I :lovestruc that camera. I re-bought it after I lost it last trip!

After Everest, it was time to head to Tusker House for lunch. Don't ask me why, DH's brain-sleep must have been catching or something, but I somehow convinced myself that Tusker House was in Dinoland. I know, that doesn't even make sense, but I was convinced, so we headed there.

I had it confused (location wise) with Resturantasaurus. Once I realized that it wasn’t where I thought it was, I realized my error and headed to Africa. DH was trailing behind me, stopping me and saying things like - well, Dinoland is back there or Africa is really big how will we find it. I swear I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out - I swore I was being punk'd.

We got to Tusker House, and DH said to me… This is a buffet? (as if I hadn't talked to him about this restaurant choice 1000 times before that moment)

IMG_0099.jpg

We waited at Tusker House. One of the things that infuriates me most about restaurants at Disney is when the restaurant is not full, there is a tendency to seat walk-ups before those with reservations. So what's the point of making one? We checked in and watched 7 groups walk up behind us. 1 of those 7 had reservations. The last two groups to be seated were the other group and us. That drives me nuts!

Finally we got seated. DH was very unsure about the buffet.

Yep, definitely not dino themed

102_0940.jpg

102_0941.jpg

I was really impressed with the food. We're generally not buffet eaters, but since Flame Tree was closed for referb and we were trying to try new things, I decided to give it a go. There was a good variety and it was tasty.

My first plate – there was pearl cous cous (YUM!) regular cous cous, mashed potatoes, coffee glazed pork, fried plantains, seafood stew, corn bread and salmon. I’m sure I had more… but that’s what I can decern.

102_0937.jpg

DH’s first plate. Not sure what all was on there – I know he got Chicken Curry, because he’s still talking about how good it was.

IMG_0102.jpg

There was a family next to us with a pre-teen (11 -12 maybe) boy who piled his plate mountainously high. It was funny to see the reactions the mom was scolding him while the dad was just laughing.

The only mark against the restaurant was the service. Our waitress asked us 4 times if we were on a dining plan. Each time, we told her we had Tables in Wonderland. She said to give her the card at the end. Then she brought us the bill - without the TIW discount, and when we gave her the card she kind of huffed and said we should have told her about it because she had to re-run the bill now. We also waited about 20 minutes for our change. She seemed really overwhelmed.

After lunch, we again had the grumpy-dopey conversation. I felt bad, but I was getting really frustrated at DH at this point. He was being so dense and not fun. Fortunately pretty things distracted me…

102_0942.jpg

This is seriously the prettiest park

102_0943.jpg

He was excited because even though the train wasn't steam - it was the next best thing - diesel! Which really, when you think about it is ironic that they'd have a diesel (non-environmentally friendly – well unless it’s biodiesel and if it is hush – don’t tell my DH or we’ll never ever leave – he makes biodiesel and is way too into it for his own good) run train to the conservation station.

102_0945.jpg

DH thought maybe they use bio diesel, but was too chicken to ask. He then spent the whole trip peeking through the back of the train trying to catch a glimpse of the round-house and the other mechanical things back there.

I took bad pictures out of the front of the train

102_0946.jpg

see I warned you!

We decided to get off and take a look around.

102_0944.jpg

Rafiki!

(I’m just leaving the rest of this picture alone, because I don’t even have a clue what I’m doing or why I’m even posting this picture on the internet where if could be used to blackmail me later.)

IMG_0103.jpg

Then we rode the train back, and decided to pick up fast passes to Everest, and headed back to Dinoland to ride Dinosaur!

IMG_0104.jpg

So we made our way out of Africa…

IMG_0106.jpg

IMG_0107.jpg

I got to take more pictures of the tree…

Great TR!!!! Did you ever mention if AK was your favorite park?? LOL!!!!

I have to say it is definitely a bubbler and soda!!!

How did I manage to miss two updates???

Once we were at Jiko, talking to the bartender, and he asked where we were from, since we had a couple drinks in us, the drawl was unmistakable - usually I try to hide it at least a bit. We said "Ma-waaa-key wi-SC-nsin" he just looked at us and shook his head and said "yes you are" He was from West Bend, and said that people from all over Wisconisn would tell him they were from Milwaukee, but he could tell the people who really were, because they pronounced it "correctly" :rotfl:
My mom grew up in a really small town in WI, and she always thought the Milwaukee accent was the big-city accent. :rotfl: Her accent is really strong (according to everyone else on the planet), but I can't hear it at all.

I love this pic!

(I’m just leaving the rest of this picture alone, because I don’t even have a clue what I’m doing or why I’m even posting this picture on the internet where if could be used to blackmail me later.)
No, see, you're being really smart. Once it's already out there on the internet, what more can the blackmailers do?

Glad you managed to get through the morning without throttling your DH! Even though I've always thought I'd wait to bring my DH until after we have kids (he's never been, and has absolutely no interest, so maybe being with kids will make him more open to it, I figure), lately I've been thinking maybe I should drag him there with me, so I can share something with him that's so important to me...but I'm not so sure he could handle the early mornings!

I haven't been back to Tuskers since they made it a buffet. The food sounds really good.

I really like this photo. Where was it taken? I don't remember seeing it at the park.

Great TR!!!! Did you ever mention if AK was your favorite park?? LOL!!!!

Hmmmm.... come to think of it, AK is my favorite park :rotfl2:

I've finally found people that understand me :rotfl:

How did I manage to miss two updates???

Um... I have no life and I'm posting everyday....:confused3 Just a guess

My mom grew up in a really small town in WI, and she always thought the Milwaukee accent was the big-city accent. :rotfl: Her accent is really strong (according to everyone else on the planet), but I can't hear it at all.

My mom apparently has a very "south side" (of Milwaukee) accent, and I don't hear it either. Funny how we block those things out.

No, see, you're being really smart. Once it's already out there on the internet, what more can the blackmailers do?

Good point... I meant to do it that way :rotfl:

Glad you managed to get through the morning without throttling your DH! Even though I've always thought I'd wait to bring my DH until after we have kids (he's never been, and has absolutely no interest, so maybe being with kids will make him more open to it, I figure), lately I've been thinking maybe I should drag him there with me, so I can share something with him that's so important to me...but I'm not so sure he could handle the early mornings!

I think if this had been a "once in a great long while - don't know when we'll be back again" kind of trip - I may have actually killed him. That's the bonus of our crazy "year of disney" plan. This trip was just kind of a fun bonus - no pressure to make it special.

I lucked out with DH - about 5 years ago I told him we should take a trip together - just us - he could choose the destination, anywhere in the world. He said he always wanted to go to Disney. I would have married him right then and there :rotfl: But I waited 5 years and HE actually suggested we get married at Disney!

I say try it kid-less if you can - might be easier to hook him in. I think with kids WDW becomes more of a chore, since kids (well young ones at least) cause a need to keep to a schedule and do things for and because of the kids. With just DH and I, we rarely leave our hotel room before 10am, and do things totally at our own pace we want to go back to the room - we do. No temper tantrums, no dumbo flights - just us having fun. I think my DH would have a totally different view of Disney if we had only gone with kids. (okay, or maybe I'm just angling for another TR from you :rolleyes1)

OMG, yes, bubblers around WDW would be awesome! I love that idea.

The rest of the country might think I've gone mad, but I think it's a great idea too!

I haven't been back to Tuskers since they made it a buffet. The food sounds really good.

I really like this photo. Where was it taken? I don't remember seeing it at the park.

The food was delicious. Definitely worth a stop at least once.

when leaving Tusker House (after Dawa bar) there's a little overlook to the river - if you look left of the overlook, that canoe village is there.

That's exactly what I love about AK - the details are just awesome!

We headed to Everest first, to get fast passes, then back to Dinoland.

I can't tell you how much I love this ride. It is funny and just the right amount of intenseness. This is how I wish Test Track was. I told DH and he looked at me like I had 2 heads.

How dare you defame by beloved test track. Don’t you know there are machines on that ride?

IMG_0111.jpg

Sorry buddy, I like Ford better anyway….
I will eeeeeeeeeat you

IMG_0112.jpg

Look – Dino butt!

IMG_0113.jpg

Once we got inside, I was so happy that the Bill Nye piece was still there. It must have just been off or bad timing the last few times.

Hi there mister…. Hope you don’t mind me coming this way…

IMG_0116.jpg

We couldn’t believe how many people were in line. The rest of the park was basically empty – why were people all up in my Dino?

IMG_0119.jpg

IMG_0120.jpg

Ummmm…. Maybe I thought DH had a boogie? Obviously he didn’t….

IMG_0121.jpg

This has nothing to do with being at the AK, or waiting for Dionsaur, but this is where I remembered to take the picture – I was way excited because I remembered to wear my watch. I don’t like carrying my phone at Disney – I’m afraid I’ll loose or smash it. And then I never know what time it is. Time will tell if having the watch helped…

IMG_0122.jpg

Soon we were in the little pre-show area.

IMG_0123.jpg

You might say, Ironic that I got a picture of the part of the show about not taking pictures on the ride…

IMG_0124.jpg

But I didn’t have the flash on, so the homing signal stayed in tact.
DH and I hung back because I hate pushy people at the end of the pre-show, and we got stuck in the room - there was a traffic jam.

Boo… I want to ride… NOW!

IMG_0126.jpg

So instead of shoving to go nowhere, we watched the pre-show again!

IMG_0128.jpg

Okay, people the 2nd show is almost over, let’s get moving – what’s the hold up?

IMG_0129.jpg

Finally, we were in.

IMG_0130.jpg

IMG_0131.jpg

Once in, we realized what the hold up was. The only had one side of the loading dock open, the other was walled off – so that’s why it was moving slower than normal.

IMG_0132.jpg

We noticed the red yellow and white pipes in the loading area. (sorry, the picture I took just came out black – so next time you’re there look for it!) I remembered from the Hidden Magic book that the chemical compounds that are written on them are those for catsup, mustard and mayonnaise. So clever!

After our ride through time, we were deposited in Dinoland. I decided I was going to give Chester and Hester a chance. Maybe I judged the hideous and cheesiness too harshly.

IMG_0134.jpg

IMG_0133.jpg

Hey, I’m hungry too – didn’t your mama teach you to share?

IMG_0135.jpg

IMG_0136.jpg

After we made it back to present-day with our extra passenger in tow, we still had some time before our fast passes were good, so we decided to try out the Primeval Whirl.

IMG_0141.jpg

I’m not so sure about this…

IMG_0142.jpg

This was a first for us. I usually run in the other direction screaming from Chester and Hester's pit of despair.

But we went at it with an open (or in DH’s case empty) mind

IMG_0143.jpg

Personally, I was not a fan of that ride at all. It just solidified my belief that Chester and Hester's monstrosity is a blemish on the beauty that is DAK.

That's awesome about the ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. Who knew?!

Except for Dinosaur, we usually bypass that entire area. Although I wouldn't mind giving Primeval Whirl a try sometime :)

I love Primeval Whirl! Maybe it's the fact when my DH and I went on it for the first time there was a couple of tweenager girls that sat with us and they were talking "like how scared they were to ride this ride OMG!" (invision Valley Girl type talk here) Well DH gave me the look (like I'm going to have fun with this look). So the entire ride he's screeming at the top of his lungs that we're all going to die! :rotfl: And terrifing them even more. All the while I'm laughing my but off! I'm sure those girls were tramatized for life after that! :rotfl: I still laugh thinking about it. Like OMG! :lmao:

I wonder why they had one side blocked off at Dinosaur. But that definitely explains why the line was so long. I can't remember the last time we waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for that ride.

Oh I think I know where that is now. Either they've added more to that village or I'd forgotten most of it. I'm guessing I'd just forgotten.

I actually like Dinorama to some degree. Some of the theming is pretty cute and kitschy, and I thought Primeval Whirl is kind of a fun ride (though certainly not the best). I could take or leave all the carnival games though- it seems like such a wasted space that they could use for something else.

You make a very good point. I'm thinking if I could just get him to agree to spending a few hours a day with me in a park, then he would probably like it. And it would definitely be easier without kids. I'll work on it. ;)

Test Track is boring. Except for the two seconds of speed.

I love this quote!

I thought the ketchup, mustard thing was so cool. Just shows the level of detail Disney puts into everything.

We usually skip it too. and probally will again! Primeval Whirl was like those cheezy carnival roller coasters that just jostle you around like you are a rag doll.

See we had our own car. That might have been part of the problem. We would have had fun with that! I like roller coasters, but I don't like ones that just toss you around cuz they can, so it just wasn't for me. In Primeval Whirl's defense, I hate Space Mountain too....

I wonder why they had one side blocked off at Dinosaur. But that definitely explains why the line was so long. I can't remember the last time we waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for that ride.

I don't know what they were doing, but they had walls, so it seemed planned. I agree, I've never waited for Dinosaur - it was weird... but I love it, so it was worth the wait!

Oh I think I know where that is now. Either they've added more to that village or I'd forgotten most of it. I'm guessing I'd just forgotten.

That village was new to me, we'd never gone over there before - so I don't know if they changed them or not.

To me, it also doesn't jive with the rest of AK. I might feel differently about it if it was at say DHS or something... But I do understand in theory what they were trying to do...

You make a very good point. I'm thinking if I could just get him to agree to spending a few hours a day with me in a park, then he would probably like it. And it would definitely be easier without kids. I'll work on it. ;)

I love this quote!

Good luck converting your DH! :cutie:

I totally agree. Test Track is a snooze fest!

After recovering our centers of gravity from the horrible carnival ride, and narrowly escaping the pit of despair with our lives….

See ya later Chester…. Or are you Hester?

IMG_0133.jpg

Desperately needing our last AK experience of the trip to NOT the horrendous Primeval Whirl, we ditched Chester and Hester, and headed out for one more expedition to try not to anger the yeti.

IMG_0147.jpg

IMG_0148.jpg

After we again escaped with our lives, we stopped for an iced tea.

IMG_0151.jpg

This is the second time that this stand has been out of what I want to order when we get there. And the second time the tea has been not good. DH asked if it was because it wasn’t sweetened, but I like unsweetened tea. The tea is just not flavorful or something. I don’t think we’ll be going back.

After that, it was about 4:30, and the park closed at 5. I suggested It's Tough to be a Bug, but that was met with silence. So I said, the plan is to go back to the room and change, then go to the MK.

DH just looked at me, and I knew what was coming, so I braced for impact.

I had to keep telling myself, this is supposed to be a relaxing trip, we’ll be back 3 more times this year, we don’t have to do everything….

"Do we have to go to the MK"
"No, we can do whatever you want…. I just don't want you to take a nap"
"Why not" asked like I had just kicked his puppy and taken his candy
"Because you don't nap, you sleep. And I'm not ready for the night to be over. We can go to the pool and just relax."
"I can wake up."
"I've known you for 10 years, you won't wake up"
"I'll wake up. Why are you so grumpy?"
" 'cuz your dopey"
Really, we degenerated there again?

But I’m soooooo sleeeeeeeeeeeeeepy

IMG_0152.jpg

So we got on the bus and I devised a plan.

(DH) I’ve got a bad feeling about this…(Me) I’m going to make you PAY

IMG_0153.jpg

Okay, we'll get back to the hotel around 5ish. You can nap, and I'll go to Downtown Disney. I'll come back at 7, and we can get ready for dinner. But if you don't wake up, you have to buy me a Dooney & Bourke bag.

OK
The bag is $270.
Oh…Okay
I thought it was a fair trade - since we'd be missing dinner at Narcoosee's if he slept.

Finally we were both satisfied with the arrangement and we were all smiles.

IMG_0154.jpg

We settled into the nice air conditioned bus, and headed back to OKW.
