I've had a really really bad Atkins day and am seriously thinking of switching to WW. I chose Atkins because it seemed to give everyone pretty quick results and I want quick. But, I'm tired of eggs and meat and not having any sweets and I'm only 10 days into it. I'm not sure what to do. 6lbs in 1 week is really good. But going out anywhere is torture for me. I focus on what I can't have instead of the good it's doing for me. I'm thinking WW would let me have a little of everything instead of a lot of protein & fat and almost no carbs. *SIGH*

Any suggestions or wisdom?

hmmm....what are you eating when you go out? I have a salad with bleu cheese, then a nice steak or salmon and grilled veggies. Why not give it a few more days (the first 2 weeks being the "induction" time - the menu can vary more after induction.) Try reading the recipes thread at the top of the WISH page. I keep meaning to make a cheesecake - that'll take away any of that "I feel deprived" thing for me!
However, if you decide to go the WW way - remember that you are making an effort to eat healthier. Many, many people lose weight successfully on WW! (I have come to the conclusion that carbs are a BIG problem for me!)
Good luck on whatever you decide - and congratulations on your decision to eat healthier!

Hi, Mary!

This is a tough one! I know that I've read some REALLY terrific Atkins recipe threads/meal suggestions on this board before that made me wish I was doing Atkins instead of WW. With WW the weight has come off slower, but I also have a cheat meal once a week and that might have something to do with it. Maybe give it one more week if you can and see how you feel then? Certainly you don't want to feel deprived and you should find a plan that you can stick with for life (don't even think of anything as a temporary change in eating just to lose weight right now, it's better to find a plan you can LIVE WITH forever so after you reach your goal you can maintain that size/weight forever!)

If you do decide to switch to WW, are you planning to join WW and attend a weekly meeting or just follow the online program (or just use materials you either have or that a friend is lending you?) There are some great WW recipes on this board, stuck to the top of the page.

I have found that exercising while following WW has made a big difference in how my body looks (very nice difference!) So you'll want to think about adding some kind fo movement to your life too!

Hang in there!!! :) No matter what plan you choose, you can do it!!!!

You need to vary the foods you eat. But you know what? Atkins isn't for everyone. It's perfect for me but it may not be perfect for you.

I like the loss of appetite that ketosis gives me. Have you checked to see if you are in ketosis?

There are low carbohydrate alternatives for regular bread and chocolate that are yummy but if you just have to have real sugar then perhaps Atkins isn't the plan for you.

My husband likes the way Atkins has lowered his cholesterol, triglycerides and blood sugar. You may not need that benefit.

What exactly is it that you are craving? Are you the only person in your family eating the Atkins way? Is it watching them eat refined carbohydrates making you feel deprived or are you really craving the sugar?

Here is my theory. Pick a plan you can stick with for life.

I KNOW I could not do Atkins for life so I never even considered it. I believe that I can do Weight Watchers so that is what I went with.

Thanks for the responses. I'm craving carbs, not necessarily sweet. I miss having a bun with my burger, chips, pasta salad etc. This was all triggered last Sunday when we went to some friends house for a get together. We had a BBQ with all the usual fixins. I told my girlfriends that I had started Atkins and they thought it was a bad idea. They think it's bad on your organs and convinced me that WW was the way to go. Said I can eat what I want and have to keep track of points. I looked into WW and it sounds like you are limited by calories. I've tried 1200 calorie diet before and I remember being so very hungry...and I hate being hungry. Anyway, I completely caved in that night, ate burger with bun, salad, pasta, fruit and dessert. And since then I've been back to my old habits of eating sweets and snacking all day. And I've noticed I am really tired at night again, which tells me sugar is bad bad bad. So basically I'm back at ground zero! :(

BUT the good news is I'm sticking with Atkins. I've got a fresh new resolve and am starting again tomorrow. I can do this. I felt so good after the first week, very energetic and not very tired. I definitely need to get a variety going though. I can't eat hamburger, eggs and bacon all the time.

Thanks again for the advice. I was definitely in a funk!
