Hi all!

Well, I just got back late last night from my first Summer trip to WDW!!

I usually go Oct or Dec. It was me, my 2 DDs ages 4 and 8 and my sister and 4 year old niece (it was their first ever trip). DH's stayed home to save money...this was an extra Annual Pass trip for myself and my DDs. We're going for our 'real' trip in Oct/Nov.

We stayed Sat, Sun, and Mon at BWV and then Tues, Wed, Thurs at the Contemporary. I got my one request at both resorts. BWV, close to elevator and at Cont, MK view! I was not crazy about the boats at BWV to/from MGM. One day we waited almost an hour for the boat back to BWV...I think it was weather related. But I had no problems getting to my 8:20a PS at CRT from BWV via bus...the buses weren't bad at all at BWV for us this trip. We had no transportation problems at Cont. One thing about the Cont...I was VERY disappointed that the elevators do not have characters talking anymore. We were quite bummed. I wonder if this is permanent? I didn't ask.

We did see Mickey's new outfit at Chef Mickey's. It does kind of look like the DCL outfit but it isn't the same. He is still wearing a chef hat and his shirt is now red but it's still a chef outfit and not DCL outfit like someone said on the Restaurant board. I think they did this to make him stand out from the other characters?? We purchased the photo package which with tax is now $27. It was two 5x7 and a key chain and a magnet and then 2 extra wallet size photos.

I must say it was hot and humid but we did get used to it. I brought a Misty mate, mister fan, filter bottle (for water fountains) and the cooling neck ties. I ended up using the filtered water bottle alot and just a wet rag from the room. That worked GREAT! I got tired of carrying the Misty Mate and the mister fan didn't work well. We sure did drink ALOT.

You do kind of get used to the weather though.

It rained Saturday night, Sunday night, spared us on Monday (for Fantasmic, yeah!!), rained Tuesday night right when Spectromagic was about to start and right through Wishes but we survived it and enjoyed them both, well worth sitting in the rain. It was my first time seeing Spectromagic and seeing all of Wishes. No Tinkerbell because of the weather. We got a spot on Main street an hour and a half before it started. For Wishes we moved closer to the Castle, right at the hub. When it was over, we just waited by a trash can for the crowds to die down before we headed out. It rained Wednesday afternoon when we park hopped from AK to MGM so we could see the Ariel show...It spared us Thursday, our MK day and then we ran to MGM again to catch the parade at 3:30p. Friday, yesterday, it rained a bit when we were on the plane heading home!

I got everything accomplished I wanted to by heading out early, using Fastpass, and having a plan. I was pleasantly surprised.

We did a few 'firsts' with my sister and niece. Spectromagic and Wishes, eating at Beaches and Cream and Whispering Canyon, seeing some of the shows at MK that we never seem to have time for like Tiki room, Country Bear Jamboree, Goofy's show at the Diamond Horse and HOP. Saw them all for the first time, all yesterday morning before we had to head to the airport yesterday afternoon! Jungle Cruise was closed but will be open again in a couple of weeks...

Let me know if you have ANY questions. I may not get to them right away as I am unpacking and going to get my dogs from the kennel but I will definitely reply tonight!!

All in all it was a great, but tiring, trip. My sis kept asking me if I'd go again in August (end of August) and I said, well, I certainly would if I had to but I do still prefer Oct and Dec. August wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be though and I did what I wanted to do. :teeth:

Sounds like a fun trip! I've gone in late August a couple times as well, but we've been sticking to Sept/Oct lately. I definitely like the fall over the end of summer - but the end of August wasn't totally miserable!

:smooth:

Welcome back! Sounds like a great trip. August would never be my first pick because I can't take the heat and humidity but I would go over no trip at all!! ;) Thanks for the report!!

Welcome back Mrs. Beatty,
This will be my dd4's 1st trip. Can you tell me what the 2 4 yr olds liked the best? Also, my 2 dd's are a little over 3 yrs apart, how did the 2 girls who are 4 yrs apart do? Did they ride the same stuff?
We'll be going to Whispering Canyon (staying at VWL) and CM too, as well as the 2 princess breakfasts! Did you do any princess meals? Which character meal did the 4 yr olds like best?
Take your time in responding! Your post trip let down is sure to kick in soon!

Hi,

How exciting that your DD will be experiencing her first trip to WDW!

They enjoyed just about everything Toontown (Donald's boat, Goofy's rollercoaster, Mickey and Minnie's houses, and the little play area) and all of Fantasyland (they both didn't want to do Snow White though). They loved the Alladin ride and the Tea Cups and Buzz Lightyear rides and they also enjoyed the Transit Authority ride in Tomorrowland. They enjoyed all the parades VERY much. They loved all the shows like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Playhouse Disney at MGM, they loved the Goofy Diamond Horse show at MK and the Country Bears Gamboree show, and the Tiki Room. They LOVED swimming in the pool and riding the monorail. They didn't enjoy Epcot that much. They also wanted to go to the Honey I shrunk the kids playground at MGM but we never made it there before we left.

We also did both Princess Breakfasts! They LOVED them both and they both (actually all 3 girls ) wore Cinderella costumes to the CRT breakfast at the Castle. They LOVED Chef Mickey's. That is probably our favorite character meal of all.

It does get a bit more difficult with 2 children several years apart but we managed. We did the parent swap for the mountains for the little ones and my older DD got to ride twice so she was very happy. While they were riding the big rides, I'd take the little ones for a snack or bathroom run or do something they can do...but there was a lot of waiting involved. In the case of the age difference, it's the little ones who get frustrated waiting a lot while the older kids get to ride everything and sometimes twice (with each parent). Sometimes its best to separate and have one parent with the little ones and one with the older ones. We did not do that this time since I was with my sister and it was her first trip too. The older child can ride just about everything so that wasn't an issue, it's the little ones and keeping them busy while the older people ride the mountains.

I hope this helps!

Thanks!
We were not planning to do Country Bears, Tiki or Goofy show because I thought maybe they would be over her head, but maybe she would just enjoy the singing & dancing. We'll see what kind of time we have & do them if we need a break!
DD will be in her costume for breakfast too! princess:
We're doing EPCOT (because of the breakfast) so I guess if she gets bored we can always fun over to MK instead! We're pretty flexible. This trip is specifically for her!!

Sorry, just a few more quick questions!
How late did the 4yr olds stay up? Did they like the fireworks? How early did they get up? Did you take mid day breaks?

Sounds like you had a magical trip, thank you for sharing.::yes:: :wave2:

No problem!

They stayed up till 10:00p some nights. My 4 year old only took a nap the first day.

My niece liked the fireworks but my DD doesn't like the noise much but she did think they were great from our balcony; not as noisy.

We got up around 8 each day, Sun we got up at 6:30a to make the 7:00a bus for our 8:20a CRT PS.

They did fine except for the first day because of all the traveling.

We'd stay at a park till 12 or maybe 2 and then head back to the room for a break...no naps though. We'd swim or just watch cartoons. Then we'd go to dinner or to DTD. Somedays we'd take a small break and then head to a park for it's parade.

Hope this helps.

Glad you had a great trip.

I have read that Donald's Boat in Toon Town has been rehab'ed and the water is acutally on. Please tell me if this is true. My DD (3) has never been able to play here and my son (7) has only done it 1 time. It has been dry the last 4 times we have gone. We have a suprise trip planned for the kids 9/10 to 9/13 and I would love it if the water was on and they were able to play.

Do you have a picture of Mickey's new outfit?

I have one with my 2 DDs and my niece so you can't see his whole outfit but you can get the idea.

Hi,

Thanks for the link but I am having trouble accessing it. I keep getting an error message. Does it matter that I am using AOL?

Not sure why you can't see it. That is the only way I know how to post a picture...
