Hi all!
Well, I just got back late last night from my first Summer trip to WDW!!
I usually go Oct or Dec. It was me, my 2 DDs ages 4 and 8 and my sister and 4 year old niece (it was their first ever trip). DH's stayed home to save money...this was an extra Annual Pass trip for myself and my DDs. We're going for our 'real' trip in Oct/Nov.
We stayed Sat, Sun, and Mon at BWV and then Tues, Wed, Thurs at the Contemporary. I got my one request at both resorts. BWV, close to elevator and at Cont, MK view! I was not crazy about the boats at BWV to/from MGM. One day we waited almost an hour for the boat back to BWV...I think it was weather related. But I had no problems getting to my 8:20a PS at CRT from BWV via bus...the buses weren't bad at all at BWV for us this trip. We had no transportation problems at Cont. One thing about the Cont...I was VERY disappointed that the elevators do not have characters talking anymore. We were quite bummed. I wonder if this is permanent? I didn't ask.
We did see Mickey's new outfit at Chef Mickey's. It does kind of look like the DCL outfit but it isn't the same. He is still wearing a chef hat and his shirt is now red but it's still a chef outfit and not DCL outfit like someone said on the Restaurant board. I think they did this to make him stand out from the other characters?? We purchased the photo package which with tax is now $27. It was two 5x7 and a key chain and a magnet and then 2 extra wallet size photos.
I must say it was hot and humid but we did get used to it. I brought a Misty mate, mister fan, filter bottle (for water fountains) and the cooling neck ties. I ended up using the filtered water bottle alot and just a wet rag from the room. That worked GREAT! I got tired of carrying the Misty Mate and the mister fan didn't work well. We sure did drink ALOT.
You do kind of get used to the weather though.
It rained Saturday night, Sunday night, spared us on Monday (for Fantasmic, yeah!!), rained Tuesday night right when Spectromagic was about to start and right through Wishes but we survived it and enjoyed them both, well worth sitting in the rain. It was my first time seeing Spectromagic and seeing all of Wishes. No Tinkerbell because of the weather. We got a spot on Main street an hour and a half before it started. For Wishes we moved closer to the Castle, right at the hub. When it was over, we just waited by a trash can for the crowds to die down before we headed out. It rained Wednesday afternoon when we park hopped from AK to MGM so we could see the Ariel show...It spared us Thursday, our MK day and then we ran to MGM again to catch the parade at 3:30p. Friday, yesterday, it rained a bit when we were on the plane heading home!
I got everything accomplished I wanted to by heading out early, using Fastpass, and having a plan. I was pleasantly surprised.
We did a few 'firsts' with my sister and niece. Spectromagic and Wishes, eating at Beaches and Cream and Whispering Canyon, seeing some of the shows at MK that we never seem to have time for like Tiki room, Country Bear Jamboree, Goofy's show at the Diamond Horse and HOP. Saw them all for the first time, all yesterday morning before we had to head to the airport yesterday afternoon! Jungle Cruise was closed but will be open again in a couple of weeks...
Let me know if you have ANY questions. I may not get to them right away as I am unpacking and going to get my dogs from the kennel but I will definitely reply tonight!!
All in all it was a great, but tiring, trip. My sis kept asking me if I'd go again in August (end of August) and I said, well, I certainly would if I had to but I do still prefer Oct and Dec. August wasn't really as bad as I thought it would be though and I did what I wanted to do.
