:Where to begin...I'm not going to try to bore you guys....
The reason for the trip? Well, we were celebrating our 1st Anniversary Trip! Yep! It's been a whole year since we tied the knot! For my gift to Jon, my partner, I gave him Wicked tickets. I bought him the soundtrack of the musical and he read the book so he became hooked. We wanted to see Wicked 2 summers ago when it traveled around the country, but we never could get down to Charlotte to see it. So, I gave him the surprise when we were in Epcot on our last WDW trip. I actually slip up and broke the news to him while we were in line buying stuff at MouseGear. We were in line waiting to make our purchase and this very rude lady was behind us and it went a little something like this....
Rude lady: What the "lots of dirty words here" Why is it taking so long? Why are they so many people here? Why is the cashier taking so long? (lots of bad words edited out!)
Jon: Such language! Childeren are present!
Me: She must be from NY City...(no offense to anyone)

Jon: Are people that rude in NY City?
Me: Well...some. The last time I was in NYC, there were lots of people like that.
You'll see when we go there.....
Jon: When we go there?
Me: Yeah...we are going...I'm taking you there to see Wicked....Happy Early Anniversary!
We were both excited to be heading up north to the city that never sleeps! I planned the 3 night get away as I was planning our WDW trip so you know I was in stuck on my laptop trying to get everything planned! I booked our NYC trip through Expedia and got an awesome deal!
Before we took off on our journey, being a traditional type of guy, I had our wedding cake top piece frozen! And since I don't have any food pics for Uncle Remus, here is a pic of when I took our cake piece out of the freezer. It may not be all that appealing to some, but thinking about it a year ago, that was a good damn cake! It was all chocolate...chocolate icing with chocolate covered strawberries. I would post some wedding pics, but my cd is our put away for safe keeping.
I let it defrost for about a day in a tupperware cake plate. We had some for dessert after a special dinner at home....it was as good as it was on our wedding day! It was heaven all over again......served it with some vanilla ice cream....and as they say on the dining reports, mmmmmm so good!
Okay! We flew out of Raleigh-Durham at around 2 in the afternoon via US Airways. This was Jon's 1st time flying. My 3rd time so I was kind of pro. This was the 1st time for me flying since 9/11. Security was not bad at all...it took about 5 minutes to make it threw. We hung out at Starbucks in the airport while waiting for boarding.
Right before boarding, the ticket agents at the gate annouced to everyone that our flight was overbooked and they were looking for volunteers to give up their seats. They offered a free round trip voucher and another flight to 5 people. When they annouced it, I hopped up and Jon said, "What are you doing?" I told him I was getting our free roundtrip flight for our WDW trip in September......sadly, I didn't make it in time and I got a little pissed. I was all about the deal!
We boarded our plane. Just like entering the MK for the 1st time, Jon had that boyish grin that just makes me melt.....
Isn't he the cutest thing you ever seen?
And here I be....
Yes, 15 pounds heavier since y'all last saw me....thanks to the
DDP last January.
The flight went smoothly. It was nice for a little bit, then it got a little bumpy. Jon did fine! I thought he was going freak out, but after a venti latte with extra shot followed by a klonipin, he was just fine.
The trip was 1 hour and 20 minutes...so quick! We disboarded and waited for our luggaged and waited for our transportation at LGA. It took about 1 hour to get to our hotel. We stayed at the New Yorker Hotel on 37th and 8th Ave. Very nice location...3 blocks from the Empire State Building! So right after checking in with the very nice lady at the front desk, we took our bags to our room on the 37th floor and took a bike carriage ride to the Empire State Building.
The nice man that drove our carriage was from Turkey and offered to take our pic.
Sorry, this was taken with Jon's phone cam! Not that clear! It was nice ride 3 blocks down...very windy and romantic!
We got to the ESB and got in line. Sercurity there was top notch as well. It was $20 a person to go to the top and it was packed up there!
Here are some pics, again...sorry not that clear, it was very windy and crowded. It was romantic still in a way.....nothing like Tom and Meg's scene though....but close!
After a nice stroll around 5th Ave that evening, we ate White Castle for dinner along with some crack addicts that were lurking around. We headed back to our room and passed out from a long day.....
Day 2 up next! Thanks for tuning in!
