Did you not know to avoid GAY DAYS with children in tow?? This is your fault for buying the Gay Day tickets in the 1st place when you have children you are taking to DL!! Gay Days are for the Gay Convention and their chance to go enjoy DL as Gay People 1 week end of the year.

If you saw more than you wanted, you are at fault. And knew what might happen. So, don't blame the Gays. For your mistakes. You wanted the Cheaper tickets.

I have seen t-shirts with messages I thought were inappropriate in the past--I really think the DL CMs need to be on the lookout for these type of things given the family nature of the park.

totally true...i saw one couple (two ladies) with red shirts saying "i do her every night" for one of them, and the other one's said "*****"

disney did stop people with shirts like that on sunday morning for mileys party (gay theme was not allowed) and were very strict about it. i saw them turn away a few people and not let them in. why couldnt they do that the day before, or ANY day? why only for mileys party? i hope if there is gay days next year, they control it better

oh my gosh, he LOVED it! waaaay more than i expected! he was running down main street all happy and screaming out of excitement!! i actually cried! and he fell in love with mickey and minnie....it makes me so happy inside when he saw minnie during our character breakfast, he went WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!! all loud and practically dropped to his knees...it was soooo funny lol your son is going to have a great time, and so will you seeing him enjoy everything! im so excited for you and i cant wait to hear how he likes it!!! dont be nervous at all!! you are going to have a great time, i promise! especially now with all the halloween things to do!! make sure you go to woody's round up! and take loooooots of pics!!

I don't really agree with this. Gay days or not, people need to know how to act properly in public. Just because it's a weekend to be out and proud, you don't need to dress innapropriately, or act inappropriately.

The people commenting did not buy the cheaper tickets. I didn't even know there were cheaper tickets for Gay Days. I'm sure all the straight families who showed up at the gate this weekend were required to pay full price. I have an AP, so I didn't have advance notice when I attended last year. As others have mentioned, gay families include children as well. Given my experience last year, I would not have been prepared to witness what the OP saw this year. It wasn't a private party for gays. They knew people, gay and straight, would be there with their children when they got dressed that morning. It's not about being gay or straight, it's about being a decent person in public!

I agree with the other poster - morals are morals; my best friend is a gay man. He was even a member of my bridal party and brought his boyfriend to all of our events; I have no problem with that and adore him - no matter his sexuality.

But, gay or straight, no one should be walking around a family-oriented park with obscene language on their clothing. Additionally, no one should be walking around with their rear-end hanging out of their shorts, either. Granted, no matter sexual orientation, there are always going to be inconsiderate people out there. I'm going to give OP the benefit of the doubt that she'd have the same feelings she has now if the people that offended her had been straight, instead.

What stinks though is there are the gays out there that use their sexuality for things like those actions spoken about and will throw the "it's because I'm gay" card out if they're called out about it. Be free to do what you want, but respect over people, too. I highly, highly doubt the people that were dressed or acted inappropriately have children of their own. It's one thing to raise a child to be completely open-minded, but another to teach them not to respect other people by ignoring sociably acceptable manners.

My friend, btw, HATES gays who go out and act/dress like that in public; he will all out call them out about it too. He always says, if you want to be treated normal, act normal; if you want to be treated differently, do things that are going to make you seem rude/inconsiderate. It doesn't matter your sexuality. DLR is a family place - whether it's "gay days" or not. No one should be acting/dressing like that there, period.

I would think Disney would do a better job of not allowing those types of t-shirts seeing as how a child over the age of 10 is not allowed to wear a princess costume but an adult can wear a t-shirt with profanities all over it.

Your friend is 100% there! No one should be acting that way, no matter what their sexuality is. Disney shouldn't tolerate it either. They may not host the event, but they do offer deep discounts in hotels and tickets. I think those in any convention need to act appropriately. I'll say it again too, that goes for any convention. Should just be part of the rules.

It's a family place, and we know of gay families with little children as well. They would never want their children seeing such behavior from gay or straight people. Just not right.

First of all many, many people were not aware of Gay Days let alone cheaper tickets. I have an AP and have gone in the past on Gay Day weekends.

DL is a place for everyone to go to everyday! Just becuase an unoffical Gay Day event is happening does not mean I should expect to see inappropriate behavior. If the sponsors of the unoffical Gay Day event want to condone that type of behavior then they need to do like Miley Cyrus did for her b-day and buy the park out - ofcourse then the tickets might not be so cheap.

I have many gay friends who would never act in such a manner. I have straight friends who would never act in such a manner.

I also see no reason why Gay people cannot enjoy DL more than one weekend out of the year. Do not use the excuse of the convention for giving people the right to behave inappropriately.

Well said. This is not a Disney sponsored event and anyone should be able to go at any time of the year regardless. Adults (gay or straight) need to realize that children are around and show some sort of restraint! I would have been upset at the shirts and constant PDA whether someone was gay or straight. I had some friends go this weekend who had no clue what was going on. He called me from DL explaining some of the walking billboards that were being displayed. Just because its a certain weekend doesn't give anyone the right to act like it's an adults only park. Disneyland should not have let anyone in with an offensive shirt like that.

I have a hard time swallowing this… I’ve said this many many times, we went to Gay Days last year knowing it was Gay Days and NOT using the cheaper tickets and had a wonderful time. I did not see any inappropriate PDA’s or any disrespectful shirts. It’s unfortunate the OP had to experience what her and her family did and because of a few bad eggs had to ruin it for the group…

yes, we tried to stay positive about it and be understanding, but some just took it waaaay too far

jasmine we got sooo much candy its crazy. hahahaha you're gonna have a great trip this weekend. get lots of rest, you're gonna need it! im still drained lol maybe thats cuz i have monster though hahahaha you'll probably get even more candy than us b/c you wont have a stroller to push around!

I think that is one of the risks you take if you decide to take your family vacation during gay days...

And as for short shorts, well, I've seen plenty of too short shorts and skirts on girls in the park, why can't guys have them too? And the PDA- UGH. I don't like seeing ANYONE making out in public. There is a time and place for it, and I don't want to see it!

i just really dont think there should ever be a risk when going to disneyland...and honestly, i have never seen a girl wear shorts as short as what we saw. and he was a big man too. i would definitely be upset if a girl did the same thing, but ive never personally seen it at DL...and at the MTOT, the sluttiest costume was actually worn by a man. it was soooo wrong.

I don't think most people plan to take their family vacation during gay days, it just happens. This is not something that Disney advertises to the general public. Most people aren't on the DIS. I did not know about it before we ended up there last year on Sunday at California Adventure, and I have an AP. Unlike the OP, we did not see inappropriate behavior and I did not even realize it was Gay Days until halfway through the day. I don't think my kids, 11, 8 and 5 at the time, even noticed. We were even thinking about going today as it worked with our schedule, until we heard about the birthday party for Miley Cyrus, so we didn't want to deal with the early closing and extra people. I thought Disney had rules about inappropriate language on clothing, so those types of t-shirts should not have been allowed, whether on a straight or gay person. I would have been really mad about that too. I agree on the excessive PDA - I don't like to see it from anyone either! And I've seen plenty of inappropriately revealing clothing on girls and women, even moms!

We actually changed our plans and left on Saturday instead of Sunday. We have a 7 yo who now reads everything and I did not know how much explaining I would need to do.

However, we went into the park for like 3 hours when the park opened. I saw many gay families. What where they supposed to do. Where they not supposed to bring their children either.

i also saw a lot of gay families, and im sure they didnt appreciate all those nasty shirts

The park was open to all people, not just for the Gay Days convention. There were regular park hopper tickets sold for these days as well, not just the cheaper Gay Days tickets. Most people would not even have known it was Gay Days unless they saw it posted on an info board or were looking for it specifically....


On another note - I'm glad you had fun at the MTOT party! I would love to see pics - we're going on the 17th (which is also sold out!) and we just cannot wait!!

i find YOU very naive. i did ask questions about crowds, so what? i had my trip already planned and couldnt change it. and yea i WAS shocked. i expected people to be respectful; its not the gay pride parade in san francisco, this is disneyland. there is something seriously wrong with you if you think that behavior is ok to do in front of children

I have lots of posts on this board and was only aware of it last week as there were threads started about it. That's how much it concerns me. I didn't even know when it was. There are also folks that don't know about fastpass, ps or MMs. It was also Miley Cyrus Birthday so there were alot of young children in attendance. It was also MTOT time
Now I truly believe that every one has their right to personal freedoms and liberties. BUT... everyone, gay or straight should practice a certain decoram in public. Gay or straight- no obsene shirts, clothes that do not fit properly. (just because they make it in your size does not mean you have to wear it), foul language and above all, PDA of the gay and straight variety.
Gay Days is not a Disney sponsered event. Anyone can enjoy Disney any time of year. Disney does not say "all gays welcome and have as much nooky as you want in line for Alice. Make the Storybook boats your personal bed" just as they do not say all heteros "have at it". I am straight but my DH and I never flaunt our "rights" of straightness by groping each other in front of children. I have lots of gay friends who have children and I can assure you they do not approve of that type of behavior from anyone either, regardless of their persuasion.
If a gay person feels they need to express their "freedom" only once a year, I feel sad for them. If you want to be more liberated then do what others do. Go to adult only beaches. Go on a cruise that has adult only decks. Go to a resort that is adult only. That way ALL parents have the heads up to keep their children away. I am offended that some on this board would presume that this is a gay straight thing. In my opinion, it is more of what we as parents (gay or straight) have to deal with every day. It's hard enough to teach our children to read let alone explaining why that guy has his hand on that girl's chest or why that man has his hand on that man's rear.
With the MTOT party selling out on certain days thus leaving those who wanted to attend limited options AND the Miley Cyrus thing, I think it is unfair to say that the folks who went this weekend should have known better. The folks, gay or straight who acted like such fools should have known better and saved that type of activity for after hours 18 and older clubs. Gay days or not, straight or not, teenagers or not, this type of behavior is not appropriate in public. It is definatley not appropriate at Disney

Disney has a code to abide by period. People are being kicked out of the park for wearing costumes past the age of 9. Since they are being so specific on rules in terms of dressing up in playful Disney costume, they should be able to enforce conduct for more important matters like decency.

In terms of what I am trying to say, this has nothing to do with sexual orientation. I have family who are gay and am very proud of them. I think though, that being appropriate in public places where children are around is essential. Being indecent in public only makes you look disrespectful, tacky, and rude.

Even though the OP knew about Gay Days, doesn't mean that it is her fault for still going on with her trip that was already planned before finding out about the event. Some people don't have the luxury of canceling a trip and re-planning it. Its just hard for some of us to get days off.

I saw NONE anywhere, and I even had my sharp-eyed friend looking out for them too. Nothing. We also never saw any Dream Squad people anywhere. Now, how long were you at the TOTP? I would say we got there at right around 7:35 p.m. an stayed for a couple of hours. We had to wait in the line to get the photo with Jack Sparrow and also with Woody and the Soldiers from Toy Story. And we did the Photopass thing too.

Did you find that some treat stations were really generous and others were stingy? At the beginning of the TOTP, we got lots of candy. Later on, not so much. Two hours in, they were throwing like one piece in our bags!! Also did you notice that some of the costumes were so elaborate - especially over at the dance areas - that you had a hard time telling if it was a Disney employee or a 'regular' person? Did you see the people who were dressed as ghosts from the Haunted Masnion and they had their son in a wheelchair that was decked out to look like one of the HM Doom Buggies?! That was one of the sweetest and most clever things I have seen - imagine how cool that kid must have felt, riding in that Doom Buggy wheelchair!!!

We rode Toy Story at night at the TOTP, and some guy in line shouted really loudly, above all the other voices, "I love you, Mr. Potato Head!!" It was hysterical. They definitely have to keep selling Potato in EnginEars, even though he is gone from the Gag Factory in DL now.

While I was sitting on a bench during the TOTP, a Cast Member approached me for my email address so they could send me a survey. And they did - I got the survey yesterday, and it was all about the TOTP and how it could be improved and how much I enjoyed it and how much I liked the candy they gave me!!!
