IllumiNations to Close August 30?

Does anyone remember the show at EPCOT before Illuminations? I don't remember the name of it but it had a lot more lasers in it. I would say that this was back in the late 1980's to early 1990's. Also, hasn't Illuminations length been significantly cut back? I remember it being longer and the last two or three times we were there it seemed really short? Am I incorrect on this?

Sure, I referenced it in my earlier posts. I think is may have been called the Laser Light Show, or perhaps the Laser Light Spectacular? Or maybe I'm making both of those up. But yes, I remember exactly what you mean. Lots of lasers in that show, and it was really cool.

Sorry...didn't read through the entire thread so didn't see your reference to it. I remember loving the Laser Show and feeling somewhat disappointed the first time I saw Illuminations. I then grew to really love it though, especially after they added the spinning globe.

That was really neat. I also miss the focus on each country and their corny music from the old Illuminations. You'd hear the can-can, then all the spotlights would go to France, then the lights on the building would dance along to the music. Simple but comfortable.

That old show had a lot less fireworks, but it was really nice.

I prefer this Illuminations much more to the current one. It was fun and upbeat and I liked each country getting their moment to shine.

I really hope that they still have Illumination in December. I am with the other posters, as I will cry if they cancel it. We honeymooned in Disney and spent most of our time in Epcot, and it is the only show that will actually bring a tear to my eye. I really hope that this is a bad rumor.

I will be so upset when they ever decide to change Illuminations - Reflection of Earth. It is my #1 attraction in all of WDW. The old Illuminations, IMO, was the boring nightime show! Was so happy when it was changed to ROE!

Wow I'm going to be really sad if they close Illuminations- it's my favorite thing in WDW.

I would think if they were going to change it, they'd do it for some type of big anniversary or celebration?

Me too. It is my favorite. I love wishes; I like Fantasmic. I adore Illuminations probably because it was during my college program that it began, and I was there that first night.

Illuminations Reflections of Earth is coming up on 10 years. I know because the first time I saw it was with my niece in October 1999. It was created for the Millenium (another thousand circles around the sun). As much as I love it, it's time for something new.

That's also when I first saw the current Illuminations (Nov. 1999) - along with the Tapestry of Dreams (or was it Nations?) parade. Ten years really flies by, doesn't it!

Well it is on the official WDW website calander for Sept 5th @ 9:00pm. I plan to be in the park that day so I only checked the one day. So...I quess Disney didn't get the memo about closing.

I wonder how long that "news" has been out on clubthemepark, considering that everything else on the page is pretty out of date. For example, the other big feature is the Fourth of July celebration schedule.

I'm not buying this rumor. I'm not even renting it.
