IllumiNations to Close August 30?

I agree with a previous post - there would eb alot more hype if such a change were about to happen.

That's not quite true either.

In the early days of Epcot, the only thing "Mickey" to be found easily was
the famous 3-circle logo on the manhole covers. (I'm not kidding.)

Not to worry, however.
These things can become convoluted and policies have changed over the years.

Those of us who were around and keeping track of such trivia
tend to get stuck in the fine details, but that's what this board is all about.

I'm not sure if I detect a snarky undertone lol but I trust you I wasn't there until 1991 and the character bus was there. I love how different epcot is and if you think about it with the exception of tink at the end of soarin I love how the most up to date epcot rides still stick with the non-character focus :)

I hope (and think) this isn't true, i just don't want Epcot's fireworks show to include Disney characters, JMO.

I absolutely *love* Illuminations. I'm not one to say "don't change anything!!!!" ... but if they ever do change it, it had better be something REAL special...

::yes::

In fact, when I emailed my BF earlier today about this rumor he responded with, 'Why can't they just get rid of Wishes for a month instead?!' :rotfl2:

There's a possibility of ANYTHING.

The rumor (RUMOR) is that there will be a new show
in Epcot premiering after that date.

But, since this rumor was from Jim Hill Media, don't put
any faith in it until you see the official Disney Press Release.

BTW, we are still waiting for Disney Quest in DTD to close.
Jim Hill said that would happen in 2008.

.

:laughing:Yea, he got me on the Disney Quest one, than I realized he was "not so truthful" in some of his sayings....:rolleyes1:headache:

Didn't they have a parade that went along with Illuminations or am I just imagining it??:upsidedow

Tapestry of Nations (1999-2001) followed by a revised version
called Tapestry of Dreams (ended in 2003.)

They (especially the first one) were amazing to see and very entertaining.

Sadly, don't expect to see any major parades along the World Showcase walkways
anytime soon.

Illuminations is not listed in the September schedule on the Disney website, but I can't find anything that says it will be down and why. Weird.

Since it is my most favorite thing in all of Disney World, I'm really glad that we're arriving in August this trip. For our arrival day, we have an early dinner ADR at Chefs de France so we can catch Remy while he's still there and hopefully see Illuminations that night. :)

I just checked disneyworld.com and Illuminations is still listed as occuring at 9:00 pm the week we are there - Sept 12-Sept19. Its listed as Illuminations Reflections of Earth - so no mention of anything new:confused3

Illuminations is listed as normal on WDW website throughout August, September and October. There is no indication anywhere that Illuminations is going or changing. In fact, at this point in time, even if the plan had been put in place, not sure Disney could afford it currently.

It was just added. I checked the 15th because that's the day we are planning to go and as of this morning, when I was upset about it, it was NOT there. I checked twice this morning. Now it IS there when I just checked after reading your post. Apparently they realized the omission.

The DIS boards must've been head by the powers that be! LOL

THANK YOU DISNEY FOR ADDING IT TO THE SCHEDULE!

ohhhhhh - Tapestry of Nations. Nothing like sitting on the curb with a glass of wine watch this incredible parade. Too bad EPCOT is not set up for a parade.

I have never been able to latch onto Illuminations. I am going solo for 2 days in SEP, and I will watch it from around Germany this time. In the past, it has always been in the showcase prominade. Maybe I can actually see what is on the globe this time. In fact, it is when the globe takes the show that everything seems to really slow down. Great music, good fireworks, just not much during the globe scense for me.

I'm in total agreement with you guys! I have the CD and it always brings a tear to my eye just listening and imagining it.

:sunny:

I have the CD as well and love it. I was reading up about the show on Wikipedia after reading through this thread and it lists the 6 songs played before the show. I went on itunes and found five of those to download as well which brings back great memories.

Here's some history:

http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BDB203

The Millennium Celebration started 10/1/99.

There was a new version of Illuminations in the summer of 1999 (I think it was ROE because I remember the globe). I was a CM at Epcot that summer and left in mid-September before the Millennium Celebration started, but it was definitely new early that summer and had definitely changed from the previous summer.

Does anyone remember the show at EPCOT before Illuminations? I don't remember the name of it but it had a lot more lasers in it. I would say that this was back in the late 1980's to early 1990's. Also, hasn't Illuminations length been significantly cut back? I remember it being longer and the last two or three times we were there it seemed really short? Am I incorrect on this?

I checked again on disney.com and you're correct. Illumination IS listed as it normally is at the same time as park closing in September. :thumbsup2 But I swear--early this morning, it was not. I checked several September dates, and it simply wasn't listed on any date while other entertainment was. That said, Disney's site was acting screwy for me in other ways, so I take it that it was a website issue this a.m.

Sure, I referenced it in my earlier posts. I think is may have been called the Laser Light Show, or perhaps the Laser Light Spectacular? Or maybe I'm making both of those up. But yes, I remember exactly what you mean. Lots of lasers in that show, and it was really cool.
