We are going to WDW for our Birthdays March 18th & 22nd.
Is the Illumination cruise worth the money ?
How much is it ?

At the top of this Forum is a permanent thread started by nativetxn that will tell you all about the Illuminations cruise.

I think it is worth it, especially if you are with a group that fills or nearly fills the boat. A family that is good friends with all of us met us at WDW in June 2000 for their first trip to WDW. We took them on the cruise the first night they arrived, so they wouldn't have to use a day on their Hopper passes but could still take part in the magic. It was wonderful! The perfect introduction to the World!

Yes, well worth the money for a very, extra special way to see IllumiNations. You board the boat about 45 minutes before the fireworks, you cruise Cresent Lake and ride all the way down to MGM Studios, you pass the Swan & Dolphin and BoardWalk. Fianlly, you'll dock underneath the bridge between UK and France for a clear, unobstructed view of IllumiNations.
Many of the boat drivers will entertain your group with trivia and some little known facts, and may point out some of the meaning behind the show.

we did this for the first time this past trip by making a deal with another DISer. It was great.

we are planning on doing it again next trip.

Unfortunately the Illuminations cruise is so good that it is very difficult to come by. You are past the booking date for March so you would have to try for a cancelation. The cruises usually book within the first couple of minutes they are available.

Illuminations cruises are cancelled everyday so go ahead and try calling to get a reservation. If you don't get one before you leave for Orlando, call even when you are at WDW, sometimes the boats sit idle because of a cancellation.

I snagged a reservation about 6 weeks out before my March, 2000 trip.

Good luck.

I got a cancellation for this past Saturday on Friday evening. The weather forcast had been for some rain so obviously someone had cancelled. It was raining up until 7:30 but stopped and the cruise was WONDERFUL. Even some CM's commented later that the fireworks looked better because of the low cloud cover. The colors seemed ti hang in the sky forever.

So if you don't get a cruise right away, keep trying. In early February, I went on another cruise and one boat didn't go out because of a cancellation.

BTW, Charlie (our cruise captain), told us that their rule was they will not go out if there are lightning strikes within 6 miles. They will go out in rain though.
