We got back today after a 3 1/2 day delay due to a volcano eruption!!

The trip to DLR was great, the delay could have been fun if it weren't for cranky adults missing owork, cranky kids overstimulated, and baby sick enough to hit the ER the night before our flight from Anaheim.

Update to follow!

:)

YIKES!!!!! :scared1: Will be waiting to see what lead up to all of that !!!

Jeepers Creepers!! Glad to see you did get back safe and sound. Can't wait to hear more.

Wow--that's an exciting start to a TR! You've got me hooked ;)

holy moly!! you really know how to hook your readers!!! Sorry to hear all the troubles but looking forward to reading your TR.

OK. I'm still slightly brain-dead, have been up since 3:30am and a time zone away, but I can start.

I had a good time at DLR. I learned, however, that the magic is so much stronger when the rest of the group feels it.

I'm not sure how to write this trip report without it sounding like a total downer. It wasn't. But I promise to myself that my next trip in how ever many years will be with the gang that I KNOW feels the magic and floats on it. :)

At DCA......Grizzly River Run :thumbsup2 . I went twice with my son (25). It was on this ride that I saw him light up and feel the magic. I will cherish that memory.

Soarin'. I love that ride, but we had to talk our way through it, telling the young 'uns (4 and 6) that it was just a movie and no, we can't get off right now. They weren't scared, but I think the sensation was too strange for them.

DS's girlfriend made him go on the coaster.....what's it called? He did it for her, most likely will never do it again. True love, I think.

Monster's Inc was another that was fun with a caveat. The kids know the movie, they've watched it many times, but they weren't real thrilled with the ride. It seemed almost scarey, they both needed a lot of talking to/about the different characters in the ride.

We also did Bug's Life and Toy Story Mania. That one was a hit for all, but one adult member of our party couldn't stand the wait in line part, so we only did it once. I know I'll be back. :)

At DLR, we did Splash Mountain (DS wasn't thrilled, he's not a fan of drops...)
I went on Splash twice.

Winnie The Pooh ride, we also got to meet him and Tigger, got some good pix.
Autopia, 6yo loved driving! Small World.....DS and I took 6yo, she lit up for that one. All those dolls!

Finding Nemo submarine ride was good for the 4yo, he wasn't sure about the small submarine, but he did good with the whole "we're underwater" theme, and then when Nemo showed up, it was all good.
We also Talked With Crush, that was good although 4 was mad that Crush didn't talk to him.

I sat out with the baby while DS, GF, 4 and 6 went on the Roger Rabbit ride in Toon town. They seemed to like that one.
We rode the Railroad all the way around the park, it was good for taking a break.

Lol, oh yeah. I took DS on Indiana Jones. I'm not sure I'll be forgiven for that. I had fun, and that's what I was there for. :rolleyes1

We walked up and over Tarzan's Tree house, took the raft to Tom Sawyer's Island (a good one for the antsy kids), I took 6 on Pinocchio, we all went on Peter Pan. 4 got scared, so we had to limit any rides that went into dark places. There are a lot of them, ya know?

Astro Blasters was another good one for the kids, we grownups had fun, too. I think 4 got a kick out of it because it's a shooting game.

We spent 4 days at the parks, and went to the San Diego zoo for one day, that was really cool. Pandas, giraffes, rhinos, a hippopotamus.....Oh, the kids got to pet a camel!

I am already starting the savings account for my next trip. It's probably a good 3-5 years away, but I will go again.

And I will feel the magic.

:hippie:

The volcano.

Mt. Redoubt has been muttering for a month or so, the last significant eruption was 20 years ago. We all knew anything or nothing could happen, she really is a fair distance from civilization.

On Saturday, we flew from Anaheim to Seattle and had a 6 hour layover. We rented a car for that period of time so we could fill a prescription for the baby who had gone to the ER at 3am in Anaheim.....

We started getting text messages from friends back home in Alaska regarding the mountain. Oh joy.

We got to the airport and the ticket agents told us we had a 50-50 chance of getting home. Flights before ours had been delayed, the flight after ours was canceled.......and we went to the last minute before they canceled ours at 6pm.
Then the scramble for what to do.....the young adults were cranky, the kids were cranky, the baby was sick.....
We ended up re-renting the same car and driving about 40 miles. We just stopped and picked a hotel that would accomodate us. I was beyond worrying about cost, had to pay full price (thank you HoJo for saving me money in Anaheim so I could afford a hotel in Tacoma!). We ended up staying there for 3 nights.
We spent Tuesday night near the Seattle airport and flew home at 6am this morning........under another volcano watch! It had blown again last night, but it didn't toss ash quite as far.

So.
Thus ends my spring break.

Questions? :dance3:

Oh my gosh!:hug:I think you need this hug. Wow. I can hardly wait until you rest and revisit the trip report. And goodluck with the volcano and what's the matter with the baby?

Curious about the wee one also.....mother nature can really make things interesting, huh? Just sorry she made things too interesting for you and your family.((((((hugs)))))

 whew.....you survived!!! Sounds like you were able to enjoy yourself at the parks, but the trip home sounds terrible!! I'm glad the experience didn't scare you off from doing it again!!! :yay: Hope the baby is feeling better & your family is getting some rest. Amazing how a "vacation" makes you more tired than you were before it...... :rotfl2:

Keep us updated!!! :flower3:

Baby ended up with a severe case of RSV. His mom and dad are both EMTs, so when the decision was made to take him to the ER in a strange city, we all knew it was bad.

Poor little guy was having a lot of trouble breathing, his cry was a very high pitched, almost painful sound.

The timing was such that I nearly had another chapter to our adventure.....They took him to the ER at about 3am, we had to leave the hotel at 7am. I got 4 and 6 up, packed up all our toiletries and such, and was about to explain to the front desk that I was checking out and would need lots of help getting luggage for 6 down to the shuttle. Fortunately, baby and his folks got back at about 6:45 so we hussled everyone/everything down to the lobby and found the shuttle waiting.

ER gave baby albuterol inhaler and predisone steroids. That and an every 4 hour regime of tylenol really helped, but it took a couple of days for the beautiful smiles of a 5 month old to return. We were all SO happy to see the little guy smile again.

Oh my goodness. You poor things. And how scary, it's a good thing Mom and Dad were so wise and knew what to do. I still think you need this.

thanks for the hugs, they are appreciated! :)
I still haven't really come down from the excitement both good and bad. I have been playing with a few photos........we had a share in a photo pass and we have a few pictures there as well as some taken with my own camera.

The savings account has been started for the next trip. Yay!

Yeah husband met someone a few days ago that can get us free tickets any time-- they did the flooring for that Carnation cafe I think and are going to do something with the area outside of space mountain . Soooo- we're thinking about going for my son's birthday Nov 17th. I'm thinking it will be great weather and that we'd see some xmas decorations. I'm jealous of your fans-- not very many are reading my trip report...:sad1:
Didn't you stay at HOJO too? I thought I had forgot my Mickey heads but of course I found them packing in the side pocket of the bathroom bag. I didn't see anyone else with them though...

**Oh gosh I didn't really read your report well. I am so sorry about the volcano putting you in limbo in Tacoma-- I thought you just had 3 extra days in the park. I know how scary it can be too to have a child with breathing problems my daughter had some severe asthma when she was little.Poor little guy-- at least he most likely won't remember it.
