II Exchange in Cancun?

I had requested an exchange through MS in one of the Royal Resorts in Cancun. I recall Dean's previous comments that the Royal Resorts are a comparable tradefro DVC. The requested week was #52 Dec. 25-Jan 1 - something different for the holiday. MS called today indicating they have found a 1BR at the Royal Islander. I was told it's considered high season and requires 160 points. They cannot tell me the unit #, view, etc. This is the first time I am doing an exchange. Is this a fair exchange points wise? Any thoughts about the resort ? What about airfare? Fares on the major carriers are running $800-900.00 presumably because of the holiday period. I would appreciate thoughts from Dean or anybody else with experience at this resort or with airfare to Cancun. We would be flying out of Philadelphia. Thanks for your help.

I'm not Dean, but I also own at the Royal Islander. Virtually all of the villas at the Royal Islander have spectacular views (all have at least an ocean view). The quality of the Royals are among the finest in the world. You will get daily maid service (except for Sundays).

I'm very suprised that you could get Week 52 through DVC. If I were you, I would grab it for 160 points! We have gone many times during Week 52 and we love it.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions!

Greg

Definitely grab this - I did a direct exchange for Royal Caribbean for week 52 for a lot more points than that (although mine is a penthouse, 2-BR, your trade still compares quite favorably to mine)

If it's truly the dates you quote, it's well worth the points IF you can swing the air. It is a comparable exchange and for that week, more than comparable for 160 DVC points. It's likely your confirmation will give the unti but as noted, unlike at the Royal Mayan, all the unit views are pretty good there. Once you have the unit number, we can help you get more info about the location if you decide to proceed.

Just make sure it's the dates you quote as week 52 can vary at some resorts some years.

Dean: Thanks for your response. The dates that MS quoted were Sat. 12/25 check in to Sat 01/01 checkout. I asked for the unit # or view and MS told me it wasn't available. Should it be listed on the confirmation? Also, is airfare typically in the $800 range? Any experience finding cheaper fares. Thanks again for your help.

Generally Royal confirmations have the unit number. They likely have it but just won't give it to you. I can't speak to the air but on first glance, that seems high even for that date unless you're flying out of a small airport. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I decided to confirm the exchange and MS offered to have II email the confirmation. Within an hour, I received a Confirmation Certificate from II. Everything appears to be in order. The unit # we received is 4333S which I understand has a slight ocean view but primarily overlooks the pool area. Should be an interesting Christmas/New Years Holiday. I'll post a report. Thanks for all of your comments.

Sounds like a great exchange! Have a wonderful time and I can't wait for your trip report!
