Has anyone ever traded their DVC points for a stay at a villa in Maui at the Marriot Ocean Club? How was it? Pretty easy to do? Were the points comparable?

it won't be easy - you need to do it KNOW.

after Jan you will need to use RCI.

it looks like some of it is in RCI:

Marriott's Maui Ocean Club - Lahaina and Napili Villas - from the views this seems to be the better part.

Got my daughter a 1 BR OF unit there in Sept, 2007 for her delayed honeymoon using another Marriott trade. It is very difficult to get but can be easier for studios and off time like May, Sept and early Dec. As noted, it will not be an option coming up using DVC unless you do a private exchange or go through an independent exchange system such as redweeks, TUG, SFX, TPI, TPM, PI, DAE or HTSE.

Our friends (who own at Ko Olina on Oahu and we do as well) stayed at the one you're talking about on Maui a couple of years ago. It was recently converted from a regular resort hotel to a timeshare (I think this is the one you're talking about) so the actual kitchen was smaller than Ko Olina (which is kind of similar to DVC kitchens, only higher end appliances and granite counters). They said the fridge was smaller - I think the one bedroom had more of a kitchenette than a full kitchen.

They still loved it! They bought fresh fish and grilled it most nights - they always have grills and trust me, in Hawaii, they are popular! Fresh grilled fish is so great there!

They traded from Marriott, so it was maybe a little easier to get. Still I have heard it's hard to get any of the Marriotts in Hawaii (why we bought there). I'd look early to get the dates you want.

The resort is beautiful. You won't have any complaints there, but trading into it can be difficult. (Though I've never tried with DVC points.) Another nice option in case you can't get into the Marriott is the Westin just up the road. (Also not easy to get into.)

I stayed at this Marriott property many years ago back when it was still a regular hotel...loved it! Great location. Great views & beautiful grounds (but then again most of the properties have beautiful grounds on Maui). I WAS really looking forward to the possibility of staying there again in 2010 but DVC has eliminated that possibility with the switch to RCI. No more Marriott's or Westin's....so no more ideas of trading for Maui, Aruba or St. John for us.:headache: Those will have to be cash vacations if / when we go.
