If your playing Pokemon I'm judging you...

On the bright side, OP, at least you aren't the guy whose house was designated as a Pokémon gym. I've had a few heart-stopping moments while driving, thanks to pedestrians not being aware of their surroundings (walking right out in front of me while texting or just darting across traffic), and it's an awful feeling. I think there will always be people who are incapable of using common sense.

Edited to add this article: Holocaust Museum, Auschwitz want Pokémon Go hunts out
I think it all goes back to some people not being able to exercise common sense or common courtesy.
I can totally understand locations not wanting their location to be a stop and ahving them removed. I can also understand some places wanting to be stops so I'm sure soon they will all get moved.

Most of the ones around our area are public places. Memorials (not graves, but like the vietnam vet memorial, in town) that honestly its not a bad thing if some little kid finally notices this stone of names and asks Dad "Hey what is this for anyway?".

Stops that aren't wanted can be moved to local businesses that would like to see the extra traffic.

Love the stories about the guys at 3am and the 80 year old aunt.
How wonderful that people that wouldn't have met and talked previously, now do.

Last night we had to pick up my dd16 from a work class at 9pm on a street with several small businesses. DD12, dh and I ran some errands and got there around 8:45pm. I went inside in case dd got out a tad early but dh and dd12 went on a Pokémon hunt. They ran into others doing the same thing. What is nice is that it can be done in small bursts of time as well as longer times. Dh said it was like geocaching without a tangible find. A game for all ages that gets friends and families out and about having fun and meeting others out and about also having fun exploring neighborhoods sounds like a winner to me.

Well he must be crawling around in his car then since the game doesn't work if you are over 20MPH!

Not true. It doesn't give any distance credit for egg hatching, but you can absolutely collect items from Pokestops & catch Pokemon in a moving car/train (over 20 MPH).

Now I understand! DS and his friends were running the app in the backseat the other day as I was driving the others home. They were having a great time, but laughing that it seemed to show me driving through houses! - The speed limit on the road was 35, so that explains why the map wasn't working so accurately. (But I can say it was definitely still letting them collect things!)

My general opinion is that whoever came up with it is brilliant! Of course people need to use it sensibly, just like anything else, but I love that folks are getting out and walking, and I love the stories of people who might not even have known each other before now playing together!

Me, too! I'm hoping other games follow suit. Or maybe stores could do a "catch the coupon code" or something. :)

Some stores do have geo based coupons. It was a big selling point to having an Apple Watch app and gps location in the phone apps. Interestingly the Mets do that at Citi Field. If you have the MLB Ballpark app it will auto check you into the game if your gps says you are at Citi Field (on the watch app not the phone app) and you get a notification on any discounts. Sometimes it is money off a future game and sometimes it is just a % off merchandise after a certain number of check ins. A few clothing retailers were doing it as well through four square.

Is there any downside to becoming a virtual crazy cat lady??? :cat: :D

Clearly, none! :teeth:

I mean, I won't be walking into traffic or knocking on stranger's doors and frightening them. I'll just be sitting in my own back yard, putting out toys and food for cats that aren't actually there, and trying to snap pictures of the aforementioned invisible cats. Sounds sane and healthy to me!

It sounds like lots of fun. We can't have a kitty right now, but will again in the future. This might be just the thing for me. I'll have to check into it. :flower:

I've got my fingers crossed for a Neko Astume version of this game. I want to start attracting virtual kitties to my actual back yard, instead of just the backyard on my tablet!!

I am obsessed with this game!! I got a new phone and had to restart but it was so so so worth it because playing it again and trying to catch the rare cats is just so fun.

It could also just be the GPS in your area. There are some more remote locations around here that my GPS (which is designed to still work on 65 MPH highways and these windy roads only get up to around 40 mph) will show me driving through the middle of the woods or in the river instead of along the road.

I was actually telling my husband today that I will have to hang onto my crummy little tablet forever, just so I don't lose all my kitties. I think there's supposed to be an update in August. I can't wait!

Oh I'm sorry my grammar was not on point last night, it's called a "typo" and it comes from being irritated from sitting in traffic for 2HOURS while police ushered out the idiots who walked into a rotary yesterday to play this game...

Glad I'm not the only one who is judging!!! While I believe my judge was a good cause, (like I think YOU ARE a moron if you walk into the middle of the street to play an app, or need an app to go for a walk), I think YOUR judge was not, but to each his own.

It's vicious circle of judging...
