If you were caught in a lie here....

Ever heard of a pathological liar? Many have normal intellect, but can't separate the truth from a lie.

Heard of it. Believe it is a cop-out for most. Sorry.

Since I don't lie in my posts, it really wouldn't happen to me.

Now, I suppose others could think I'm lying when I'm not, but that's their problem not mine, I'd keep posting if something like that happened.

i am wondering why ask this question??

 Because I'm a big liar.

I'm sorry, is this any less important than the what's for dinner questions?

A pathological liar is a person who tells lies incessantly. That does not mean that they cannot tell the difference between truth and fiction.

I think the vast majority...up to almost all of them, do know they are lying, but they benefit in some way. They have learned that a lie is easier to say than the truth.

I guess lying on an Internet board is tempting because you can create a fantasy about yourself or pretend to be something more than you are in reality? However, if you really get to be friends with someone on a board such as DIS, you may finally have to face the music. There are so many people on this board that it really isn't hard to meet or know people from your same community. I met someone for lunch from my same town and we had a great time "talking Disney". And really how could form a nice friendship with someone, if you have lied about yourself?? No relationship can be formed if it is based on a lie?

I just don't get lying on message boards. If I were to ever do something like that, I'd be so ashamed and own up to it and apologize.

DH used to do this all the time. He'd go to chat rooms and pretend he was someone else entirely. He never did it to be tricky or malicious, but he always enjoyed role playing, so it came naturally to him. I HATED IT!!! :furious: Thankfully, he doesn't do it anymore.

This is one thing that I really pride myself on is my honesty. So I wouldn't ever have to deal with that problem. Now saying something I shouldn't of said, now thats another problem I have to deal with a lot. :rotfl2:

I want to know what you've said that you shouldn't have said... :teeth:

I would say that my problem is also that I say too much... Yeah I know, surprise, surprise. :rotfl2:

I really can't imagine a serious lie, but for the sake of argument if I were to, I would hope that I would explain myself and then continue to post.

Do you consider alter egos lying? :rolleyes2

The latest medical one comes to mind. I would love to hear back and see if she is indeed ok. If her medical problems were real, yet she just embelished some, oh well. I just hope she did get the help and care she needed.

Have I just not been paying attention or is my memory to blame again? I hate not understanding!!! :confused3 :)

OK, you've really crossed the line now!!! :furious: Dinner is VERY important. :rotfl2:

I don't really know why you would need to lie, but even so, I'm a terrible liar, so I know better than to do it. And I have a good friend on the Dis, she'd call me on a lie in a second. :teeth:

:rotfl: :rotfl: Well it is if you are HUNGRY!!!

To answer the question, if I were screwy enough to lie outright, I guess I would have to just come back as a different user. I have changed some facts to protect the innocent in a couple of my threads. (The wedding gift fiasco comes to mind. The point and the gift received were true but some identifying details were omitted or changed. Never know, maybe they were going to WDW on their honeymoon!)

Hey, I was going to say I can't imagine why I'd need to lie on an annonymous message board - but then I saw the dinner comments! I admit I have been tempted to pretend I made some big fancy dinner when in fact I served my kids mac and cheese from a box and apple slices. Although I've managed to refrain from doing so, if I got caught in that kind of a lie, I'd apologize and stay on the board.

If I did something really screwy (I liked that description) I would probably disappear in shame if I were outed.

You can run but you can't hide from the Dis Sleuth Team. I just don't have the memory and cunning to keep up with the lies you have to tell to cover your lies that covered your original lies.

I suppose the only thing I could be accused of would be omission of some facts (not everything is everyone's business) or as someone else said, saying a situation happened to a "friend" rather than myself. So, there's no reason I wouldn't stay around and try to explain.

For people who have really laid it on thick, I have a lot more respect for those who will admit they messed up. That takes a lot more guts than to run. Guess it depends on how much you want to be a part of the community, just like it does in real life.

And the problem with mac & cheese from a box and apples slices is what? In my book that passes as a fancy dinner. You have to mix AND heat that mac & cheese and slicing apples involves inherent risk of injury. Better to use the refrigerated mac & cheese & buy the pre-sliced apples. ;)

I don't think I would ever purposely lie on the DIS. I might state something erroneously but if I was questioned about it I would explain that it was an error on my part or apologize or whatever. I don't LIKE to be wrong but I can certainly admit it when I am. I can't think of an issue that I would find it necessary to LIE about. I would think it would make more sense to skip a thread than to lie. :confused3

I've made comments that people pounced on and sometimes I stick by what I said but on some occasions after I think about it I shouldn't of said it.

Leave it to you to pick up on this and comment on it. Thanks a lot. :rotfl2:

Hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that meal. I might actually have that for dinner now. Mmmmm. :cloud9:

I couldn't lie on a message board. I wouldn't be able to keep the facts straight anyways so it would be obvious. Or the lie would be so outlandish because sometimes my imagination runs away with me. I can understand little white lies to protect the innocent, but anything other than that, no thanks.
I would have more respect for the person that lied and came back and tried to redeem themselves. It takes a strong person to do that.

Ok I have to confess. One time my DH and I happened on a message board that was very interesting...

These people thought they were animals born as humans. They would post about having cat like eye sight and dog like hearing, and stuff like that. I kid you not. They were 100% serious about it. Well we had a little fun, lol.

Otherkin is what they called themselves. Wait I think I feel the urge to google that, brb.

ETA: Darn I can't find the message boards anymore
