If you tip extra on DDP how much do you tip?

I have noticed quite a few people tip extra when using DDP, I am wondering how much. We usually tip a bit extra for good service and when at non DDP resturants take it up to the 15% - 20% mark (depnding on service).

I am thinking about the Disney resturants here.

Since the DDP provides 18% for those serving in WDW owned restaurants I find that I usually add enough to make it 20% for good service and 25% for superior service (as for superior service--it usually occurs once or twice per 15 day vacation so it really isn't very often.). I have heard the non-disney owned restaurants calculate the tip for servers differently so in that case I would try to be sure my server was getting 15-20% depending upon the quality of service-personally I have not tried one of these venues yet.

IMO, 18% is a good tip especially since most of these bills with app, entree, dessert for each person in the party are going to be huge! I am figuring for our group of 5 adults and 2 kids that our table service meal totals will be around $200.00. An 18% tip is $36.00. Not bad for 1 table and the server will have others as well.
Just my way of thinking, I am fully prepared to be flamed!

Since I usually tip 20% for good service, I would probably add enough to get it up to 20% if I paid for the DDP.

So far, I have only had the free dining plan, so I have tipped an extra $5 for each meal. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I feel like I should give the server something since I got the food, tax and tip for free! I did give $10 extra to our server at Raglan Road, since they only get $3 per person instead of 18%.

Depending on how much of a mess my 2y old makes of the table/ floor  I may leave an extras $5 behind, as I would if it were a TS at home. 18-20% + $5

When we were there in early October on the free DDP, we had 7 TS meals. At 3 of those, we tipped an extra $5 for great service, at Cali Grill, we tipped an extra $10 for AMAZING, OUTSTANDING service, and at the others we didn't tip any extra because the service was good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

We tend to tip 20%-25% at home depending on service, so we always added to the tip at the end. We also had great service throughout free dining. We also just happened to find out that the tip figured in at CRT for dinner was only 13%...we left extra there as we had a great server and great meal.

I read somewhere here on the DIS that the gratuity is 18%. How did those of you who have left more find out that the tip at that location was less than what you would expect? I don't want to cheat someone if they work hard.

I know we ate at wolgang Pucks Cafe and they only get a tip off of what Disney reinburses the restaurant, which is a lot less than the total bill. We left our waiter a extra $10. Our bill should have been around $120 before tip and it was arounf $75 with tip. I don't think many if any Downtown Disney Restaurants on the Dining Plan are owned by Disney. Our waiter was very Grateful for the extra tip and he deserved it.

We tip an extra 5% of the bill. Why, because the math is a little easier...I do 10% of the total bill (that's with taxes and first tip included), then split that in half. I figured it's about 25% total, but haven't done the actual calculation yet. We do this when we get great service. On our last trip (returned last week), left this extra for Coral Reef, Concourse Steakhouse, Spoodles, LeCellier, Kona's. We did not leave extra at Cape May and 50s Prime Time, as the service was just adequate at these places.

I always leave an extra tip for friendly prompt service because a few extra dollars in cash can make a huge difference as compared to the taxed paycheck. The biggest perk of waiting tables is getting to take your money home that day. I bet the DDP is making a big differnce to the servers, as very few patrons are paying in cash.

When we had the Free Dining Paln in August I always left a ten dollar bill as extra above what the server received from Disney.

I'm really glad to see I was "in the ball park" when I left an additional $5. I'm usually so clueless when it comes to tipping. But on my solo trip, I figured that my bill for one was less than usual for the table (since I was always at a table for 2), so even though the server had to do a little less work for 1 person instead of 2 people, I figured he could have been getting tipped for serving 2 people instead, so I always left an extra $5 (except once when the server wasn't very good in France).

I just returned from a weekend trip to WDW. We had two TS meals. Both servers were attentive and very accommodating to my 5 year old son and 12 year old daughter, so I gave them both 10 extra dollars. It equaled about 10 percent above for Ohana (bill was $116 I think) and about 8 percent above for Coral Sea (bill was $160).

How do some of you find out that some restaurants calculates the tip differently? This would be a good thing to know. TIA! :)

I tried to figure out about how much more to make it an overall 20% tip, which is what I usually tip at restaurants. If we also did any OOP on the same meal I did a 20% tip on that also. Worked out fine.

Ok, dumb question.. can you charge the extra tip on your room key or do you have to leave cash? :confused3

Except for one time, I always left cash. I tried to make sure I always had at least a $5 bill with me. One time I had an alcoholic beverage, which I charged to my room, so when the server brought the slip for me to sign, I added a big tip.
