PIO - I tried to stay out of it, but I started stamping a few years ago and scrapbooking was the next natural progression since I had kids. I'm not doing a book for myself or DH (even though I should...), just the kids right now... and any major trips we will take.
I don't know how good you are at putting yourself into your pictures... me? Not so good. Out of our entire trip (6 days/5 nights) last September, I think I'm in maybe 15 images? (and that is counting Photopass...)
I use the Cricut for so much now. Before, I had to make all my page titles by hand and it became cumbersome.
Here are some images of what I did last weekend. Please excuse the photography of the actual pages, I took those with my phone since it will do an automatic upload to photobucket...
Heck, my SIL even used it to cut out letters for our local Relay for Life event. She was the event chair and cut out letters for signs telling everyone where to go! She picked up some cheap mat board and fun scrap paper and the signs ended up really cute and had her personal touch on the event.
The big one (the Expression) will cut vinyl and do some other stuff that I'm too scared to try! I'd love to buy some vinyl and use my friend's machine to do cutouts for my kids' rooms or our kitchen, but that is another project for another day!
I know a lot of educators use it too. It beats having to use the old die-cut contraptions. DS's preschool uses theirs religiously. They can cut out shapes (square, circle, etc) and also little fun things for the kids. A couple weeks ago they did an "Old West" themed week and were able to cut out cacti and cowboy boots, lassos, etc. our of construction paper. The kids have a blast making pictures with them. They also use it to decorate bulletin boards or make signs for the room.
