If you put it in writing, you have to deliver… right? A Dec. 2011 PTR

Sorry you are not feeling well... but :woohoo: on your dh wanting to go back to WDW sooner. I think that would be music to my ears. Actually if my dh wanted to plan anything it would be nice...but he is so anti disney lately that if he suggested a trip I think I might just :faint:

Well, I am still around. Desperately sorry for the extended absence!

The paper is changing yet again. I got an email on Tuesday offering me three assignments over three days. I got to the first assignment and found out that the editor was completely messed over by two other photogs! They have been turning in TERRIBLE work, so he said screw it and offered me the lot of assignments! Bad for them, good for me.

I hope it keeps up. We're going into the "down season" in between fall and winter sports.

E will be back from her Asia trip tomorrow and then we'll start planning hard again.

I can't wait!

Life can get busy... no need to be sorry. :goodvibes

:woohoo: for E coming back and your planning starting back up!

Glad to see that things are looking a little better for you in the assignments...and E coming back soon, then you can be a planning fool!

Awesome news on the assignments and E coming back tomorrow. I still can't believe we are all so close to our trips we've been talking about for most of this year!!! :cool1:

Incidentals and fuzzy math...

Okay, so I've been checking on crowd levels and times all day and have come to the conclusion that I hate F!. :(

E is going to be miffed to find out that F! Is every night... and at 6:30p. This may 100% mess us over for Characterpalooza. I got my hands on the alternate schedule and it is only going to happen when F! Starts at 7:30p. :sad2: D'OH! I'm still holding hope that they will have something, but I know it won't be what we're expecting.

ALSO...

I started to try to figure out spending money and I'm trying to figrue out if I'm aiming too low. Here is what I have. We have 9 TS meals reserved (one is included in our tour) and I'll have 6 TS credits to burn I'll pay OOP for San Angel (lunch) and Sci-Fi (dinner). If we plan on splitting tips, my BASE share will be $6.00 and will most likely climb from there. (6 x $ = $36). I'm figuring on at least $15 tip for our tour meal. $80 for my 2 OOP meals and we're planning a round of mini-golf ($13). $145 seems too low. Am I'm missing something?

Do you anticipate your meals each coming to roughly $40? Depending on what percentage you tip, then that may be where you are a tad low. At 20% (I know this is on the high end of what I tip) That would be $8 x9 = $72. Add the $80 for the two oop meals and that is $152 plus the $13 for golf and you are at $165. So maybe not that low if you do not tip 20%.

I'm not sure if they'll change the hours. I hope so, by maybe an hour. A 9pm close would be fantastic!

As for the mini golf, from what I understand, it's one voucher for one person, not one voucher for each person on the reservation. I may have to dig around some more!

As for the baby tips, I had to learn a couple things the hard way and I don't want someone to have to repeat them!

Do you anticipate your meals each coming to roughly $40? Depending on what percentage you tip, then that may be where you are a tad low. I was figuring $35 for one and $30 for the other. I will only order water to drink (most likely) and the food at either place isn't that much. I figure the food alone is going to be $20 or less at each place (leaving at least $10 for tip). Where I'm worried is how they will charge me since they won't be able to fix the food as they do normally due to my allergy to black pepper. I've got no clue how things will be charged! I've upped my meal total to $80 to be safe (I hope I don't come anywhere close to dropping $40 at Sci-Fi!) and here is my new total. (I forgot about bag fees! :faint:)

AirTran bags ($25/each way) - $50
San Angel and Sci-Fi OOP - $80
Tips for DDP (3 ppl x 6 meals) - $45 (will most likely go up)
Souvenirs - $200
Mini-golf - $15

I'm not sure about Mousekeeping. We generally keep housekeeping out when we're on a trip. We reuse our towels and recycle as much stuff that we can. We maybe have them in mid-week to empty trash, etc but that's about it. It's how we've always done it when we travel together. E and I are environmental nuts and I'm sure once we see the laundry room on our tour, that it will only solidfy our position of reusing what we have as much as possible!

I'll see what E thinks.

Thinking of you and your family.:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
Thanks Grace! I really appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers that folks have been sending since that day. It has made a world of difference in how things have gone.

I also just realized I didn't post about what happened in here. I got it in a couple places and not here... I've been so mentally spent that I just ran out of steam last week and we're still trying to recover.

For everyone else out there (if I still have people out there! :rotfl:), my 5 year old nephew was hit by a small (personal) truck on Oct. 18 as he was crossing the street to get on the school bus. He never saw it coming and my SIL witnessed the whole incident. (for the record, everyone did what they were supposed to do that day except the bozo who failed to stop)

I was working the front door at school when the accident happened and I heard all the sirens nearby (it happened ~ 1 mi from school). Suddenly the principal came and grabbed me and we were off. He was updating me as we drove to the scene.

The amulance had just pulled away when we got there so the principal did a couple things on site and then we took off for the hospital. Once we got there, we found out that he had a broken femur and some head trauma so they were going to airlift him to the children's hospital in Indianapolis. We made plans of who was riding with who and how we were going to get there and we were off again.

We got to the hospital about 3 hours later (it's a 2 hour drive and I spent an hour at school wrapping things up before we left - everyone was stopping me for information on his condition). They set surgery to repair his leg for later in the afternoon and they also discovered that he had a broken collarbone too!

He came through the surgery well, complete with new hardware in his leg. They also reset his collarbone while he was asleep.

He woke up for about 20 minutes the next afternoon and was back asleep until the next day. By Thursday, he still wasn't responding the way the doctors were wanting him too, so they did an MRI. By the time it was read (properly), we found out on Friday morning that he sustained a diffuse axonal injury. We don't know how the head trauma will affect him in the long run (it has shown some changes already), but as of today, he is on the mend enough (physically) to come home.

My two have been so upset over the whole ordeal. The kids are technically cousins, but they're more like siblings. DS got worn down enough and ended up getting the flu this weekend. I was so down (I'm a depressive eater) that I gained 5 lbs over the course of 6 days. :sad2: I got back on track and I'm now up only 2 lbs from what my ticker reflects.

I think we've coped decently well. In times of stress, I do two things: eat and make stuff. I've covered the eating part, but DS, DD, and I threw ourselves into making things for my nephew. We made pictures and made some ghosts that we fashioned out of kleenex. Monday night, mom and I made him a pair of new lounge pants. I've got some more fabric to make another pair, and I made sure to get enough to make a pair for each boy. I may have enough to make a 3rd pair for DD, so all the kids can match.

I've also been using Disney as my outlet from the stress. Planning for my trip, but also helping get a friend ready to hardcore plan for their June trip. We actually set it up for me to be a Fairy Godmailer to her kids in December. I'm going to send them a note saying whichever character I find for them can't wait to see them in June! I'm going to mail them from MK so they have the postmark and my friend is going to wrap them up for Christmas! :teeth: It's going to be A.W.E.S.O.M.E.!

The paper was willing to keep me busy too. They've sent me out on 11 assignments this month and I still have 2 more. It's a whopping 3x the number they cut me back to. :teeth: I'll be honest, we've had some unexpected budget-busters pop up and I was getting worried about my spending money. I'm PRETTY sure that I'm not going to meet my goal of losing ~42 lbs before the trip (it's just not going to be safe to lose > 20 lbs in 2 months). I'll be satisfied if I can get down another 15 lb before we go. Either way, I'm not going to reward myself with one of the big D&B purses, I'm thinking more along the lines of one of the wallets, because frankly, even though I'm not going to make goal, I've done pretty darn good for myself!

My heart is just breaking for you and your family! What a horrible thing to have to go through. I truly hope your nephew has a compete recovery! I will keep you all in my prayers.

Thanks Ann. We've been through the wringer!

He's doing okay for now. We can deal with the broken bones, but we know there's not much they can do to fix the head trauma! His long term memory appears to be in tact, but there are a few things that have changed in him. He's still a little sweetheart, but we've got a bit of a learning curve to decipher for the guy that is with us now. I'll take whatever person he becomes because he's here. My nephew is the second child to be struck by a vehicle in our county in a month. There was a 13 year old who was hit 2 weeks before by an SUV going ~ 60 mph. The boy had missed his bus and was walking to school when he got hit (different school system). The boys ended up on the same floor, two doors down, at the same hospital, except he just woke up the other day. He's got a VERY long road ahead of him as well and we are all praying for his recovery too.

Wow! I'm definitely praying for you and your family and my heart hurts that your SIL watched the entire incident. I hope she is handling that part of this okay. :sad2:

I'm thankful your nephew is healing and I'm sorry for the head trauma. Even at his young age, it would be different to have to readjust to the changes. I'm thankful he has his long term memory.

 to you Jenn!

Praying for your nephew and the other child. My heart goes out to your family and the other family. I hope the idiots that caused both accidents are dealt with accordingly!

I think you should reward yourself and your weight loss with a little something at Disney...you have done a great job losing the weight! Think positive and you will get those 15 gone by your trip!

I love that picture!! So, so sweet!

I will reward myself with something, and it will be a Dooney - I'm really thinking of the wallet or something small that I can carry everywhere. I got some new purses in February that I've been really pleased with and I know myself too well to know that I'll be scared to death to carry the Disney Dooney once I get home. :teeth:

Dneph came home late Friday and is very glad to be home. DS got over the flu JUST to get a sinus infection! Poor kid, I feel so bad for him. It's not how he wanted to spend his 4 day weekend (fall break) from school, but at the same time, the timing has been quite nice since I was home too.

Because of DS and the flu, I missed my grandparents 72 anniversary. :sad2: Yup, you read that right... 72 years! Grandpa knows I didn't mean to drop the ball and with Dneph not home yet, we've postponed the celebration until later this week until everyone is home and healthy.

Back to planning...

E and I got collective heads together the other night and determined what we still need to do in order to decorate our room. I need to call BWI and get measurements of the side table and desk in order to make/procure a doilie (sp?) and small runner to glam up the furniture. We also talked about me making some thin bed runners to put at the bottom of the bed. I've got some leftover broadcloth squares from DS's birthday party that I can stitch together to put on there.

Now for the lights...

I'm planning on taking down a 300 light set to run on the patio as well as some "vine" lights. There are smaller "vines" off a thick main line and they're really pretty and great for outdoor decorations. I also found some ribbon lights. It's 2 1/2" wide wire edged ribbon that has lights sewn into a pocket behind the ribbon. They give a soft glow that's really pretty! As I piled all of the lights on my bed, I realized if I PACK all of this stuff I'll likely get removed from the plane because of all the wires and the sticky tack I'm bringing along to hang stuff on our door & mirrors. Of all the stuff, the sticky tack has me concerned the most with TSA.

SO...

I'm going to mail the stuff ahead.

I know the rules for shipping: mail it ~ two weeks out, put your name, ressie number, and vacation dates on the package (helps the concierege to find it easier when we get there). BUT... two weeks out puts me putting the package in the mail right around Thanksgiving and that idea gives me hives!

Should I aim to mail the package before the holiday or wait until the Monday after?

I had heard to mail a week before. I thought that was not enough time. I think 2 weeks though would be more than enough...so maybe somewhere in the middle is better. I mean...you have to think it is mailed directly to the hotel, right? So it doesn't sit somewhere in Disney limbo for any length of time. Then it sits at the hotel waiting for you. I wonder if the monday after thanksgiving wouldn't be just fine. :goodvibes

Hi Jen
