If you know you don' t like the topic

LOL! I like that. Now if I can just have that drilled in my brain -- I gotta admit I dwell on other people's opinions sometimes. :(

Opinions are like belly buttons: everyone's got one and there are precious few in the world that are worth contemplating for extended periods of time

Funny, I always thought that was a different part of the anatomy

My kitty is eating chicken corn chowder right now. Even the corn part. Weird kitty.

Anywho, I wasn't sure I understood the meaning of this post until Eeyore personally acted it out. Thank you or I might have been really confused.

Steve,
I'm sure you know that you are "allowed" to say that you don't like a show. I guess my question for you would be: If you don't like baseball, don't know a thing about baseball, don't know WHAT a baseball is and there is a thread that is titled "Who's Gonna Win the World Series?", would you go to that thread and post a reply to it such as: "I don't like baseball and why would you waste your time watching the World Series?". If you would do this, why?

No, but I may post a question like "why do they call it the World Series if only teams frmo Canada and the US are involved"? Doesn't mean I have to like baseball, watch baseball or play baseball.

And that is a very legitimate, interesting question. Not condescending or negative or trying to "put down" the thread.

Well, yes you might think so but there are some people in the world who might take offense to that question simply because. I think that's the point some posters were trying to make. We simply don't know if the OP is going to find your comments interesting and legitimate or condescending, negative or a put down. I've seen it happen time and time again, I'll read something and say "good point" in my head and then next time I come back to the thread it's a flame war ;) Or the thread is gone.

Back to the OP I think some people just like to have their name out there so they post on everything, whether they like it or not, just so folks see their name ;)

And since I am relatively new to the CB, I would really appreciate knowing the ground rules for posting here, such as when is my opinion allowed or not allowed.
Steve, your opinion is allowed only when it agrees with mine. I'll let you know if you stray.:teeth:

2 years and over 5000 posts is still considered "relatively new"? :confused3

He said relatively new to the CB -- up to recently, the vast majority of his posts were on the DB. :)

*SIGH* 95% of my posts were on the now defunct Debate Board. Before it's untimely demise, I rarely, if ever, participated on a thread on the CB. Given the tone of this thread and others, I am wondering if my initial impression of the CB was right.

Thank you, Bob. As usual I am a "day late and a dollar short." :o

It was.

If it causes you pain, suffering and exasperation to read the CB, then why do it? Just curious.

The way I see it is you set the tone of this thread, eeyore. You've repeatedly said that each individual has the right to express their opinion, yet you take exception to those opinions when the "tone" is different than your own. If you don't care for the CB and its not your cup of tea, so be it, no big deal. If you can go on for pages complaining about the tone and the tendency for pixie dust, what is the difference in the OP complaining about someone raining on her thread about reality TV?

(in other words, what exactly is your point?)

Because I am a masochist? Or maybe I am just a seriously demented, thoroughly evil, pot-stirring purveyor of cruel, useless and mean-spirited replies to threads & topics that hold absolutely no interest for me?

The CB causes me no pain, no suffering and minimal exasperation. If I'm not interested in a thread, I skip it. If I am interested and motivated to reply, I do so. Simple as that.

I have no problem with people expressing their opinions, just as I express mine. I don't feel the need to agree with everyone; I don't expect everyone to agree with me (I'm usually shocked when someone does agree with me!).

Now that the DB is gone, the CB has been designated as the new home for former participants of the DB, warts and all. While the welcome was certainly mixed, I didn't think it would be necessary to walk on egg-shells around here.

The OP can whine about anything, but as I've said, open a thread, you invite participation. No one should be surprised if every post is not wrapped in hugs and sprinkled with copious amounts of pixie dust. I'm just amazed at some people on this thread who seem to expect that from everyone. To me, that seems a bit unrealistic.

Can you direct me to where ANYONE on this thread said they expected every post to be wrapped in hugs and sprinkled with copious amounts of pixie dust? I'm just not seeing it, unless of course you are referring to your own posts making that claim.

From your "sighs" and rolling eyes I got a different impression.
Have a good day argueing your way across the CB. :)

Did I indicate that was an exact quote? I used the word "expect" based on my reading and interpretation of the overall tenor of the CB, my interpretation of a number of posts on others threads and this thread.

Of course, this is all JMO.
