Hi All.

We're travelling to Disney the week before x-mas 12/14-12/21 and have a dinner booked at Chef Mickeys. We would like to eat at one or 2 other resorts and would use the time before/after to explore the holiday decorations. Which hotels have the best decorations we will be 3 adults and a 3 (almost 4) year old.

Thanks! I realize some of the restaurants will be difficult to get into but all suggestions welcome :)

Wilderness Lodge - they even have a trio of bears carved out of wood with santa hats; also a beautiful wreath over a roaring fireplace and a tall tree in the atrium with hand-carved ornaments. Take the ferry boat over from MK. See if you can get ressies at Whispering Canyon.

Grand Floridian - huge tree with victorian ornaments and a full size gingerbread house and a piano player in the atrium. Take the monorail from Contemporary; also go to the Poly. I haven't been in a few years, but I hear they are getting more beautiful every year. Try out Kona's at Poly.

Boardwalk - Take the boat ride from DHS to BC/YC/BW/Swan and Dolphin. BW has a carousel made of chocolate and Dolphin has a huge tree with a train going around the outside of it. YC is also beautiful as well. Try getting ressies at the Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Animal Kingdom Lodge - I missed this last time, but a few years ago, they had an entire village made out of marzipan. I went to Jiko's for dinner; really nice place to sit down and relax.

Also, take a boat ride over from POR to DTD or take a bus from your resort. They have a wonderful Christmas ornament store; the hugest Disney store and a place to make stuff out of legos. Definately try out T-Rex for dinner one night; the little one will love, love, love it.
If you are lucky to be there in the afternoon; there is a stage by the Disney store where local school children do holiday programs.....

Enjoy!

Thank you for the suggestions :) We do have a t-rex ressie for our arrival night. I actually do have a Wispering Canyon ressie that we were thinking of switching out but maybe we'll keep it :)

I would love to know that as well we are going november 7-14 does anyone know if the resorts are starting to decorate for christmas that early? thanks

I would highly recommend Grand Floridian and I would take a trip over to POR and do a carriage ride, something about that just seems to put me in the holiday spirit.

As for when they start decorating, we were there the week before Thanksgiving last year and decorations really weren't up at that point, the date for really turning everything on is the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Eat at the Cape May Cafe in the Beach Club. They had a terrific gingerbread carousel at Christmas. The GF also has a fantastic full sized gingerbread house.

Wilderness Lodge is beautiful and soo homey all decorated....GF is also something to see...when we went there I felt like I had just walked onto the Titanic Lobby...the band was playing ...it was breath taking.

Everything is so beautiful at the Holidays but especially WL and GF...
:santa:

The GF is spectacular for Christmas!

If you are looking for somewhere to dine, Citricos is excellent, the adults would really enjoy it. 1900 Park Fare is a very good character meal, and Grand Floridian Cafe is not too shabby.

My choices, in order of preference, would be...

  • Wilderness Lodge - Whispering Canyon or Artist Point
  • Grand Floridian - Grand Floridian Cafe (if you have kids who like character meals I'd also suggest 1900 Park Fare)
  • Animal Kingdom Lodge - Boma, Jiko or Sanaa (If you go with Sanaa, which is at the new Kidani Village building, make sure you stop off at the main lodge building before you leave to see those decorations. You can either walk between the two buildings or hop on any park-bound bus. Those buses stop at the lodge building before heading to the parks. Do not get on the Downtown Disney bus which will have already stopped at the main lodge building.)
