If you could live in any period of history...

I used to think that it would be neat to live in the 1880's but then I realized that I would perish without airconditioning ;)

Now. Defintely NOW! It's a romantic idea to want to live in another time. but there is so much I would miss, many of them I take for granted, that I do NOT want to do without!

Two periods of history come to mind for me, both in the U.S.A.

1) I would liked to have experienced the Civil War era. I read absolutely any and every article I see in relation to this.

2) I soak up anything I can on the 1940's and 50's, especially in regards to the military.

I would definitely want to be a teenager in the fifties...the drive-ins, the malt shops, the poodle skirts, sock hops, and music all intrigue me. It seemed like such a simple, happy time - I would have loved to experience it.

I LOVE history....I'm quite the history buff, but I would say if I could have been born in any other era, I would rather have been born in the early 1900s so I could have broken into Hollywood in its early years.

I would have to agree with Disney Doll, the 1940's fascinate me. I love the music, I'm a big Sinatra fan and I like that big band sound. The clothes were stylish and people for the most part seemed to be respectful of each other. Of course, it was war time which must have been very difficult but at the same time it made everyone pull together and route for the same team-the USA. :cheer2: :thewave:

That must have been a really fun job!

I played a Native American character in a state park reenactment. The leather dress got kind of hot in the heat, though.:D

southernclass, you rock! I so totally agree with everything you just said. However, if I was to pick a time period, I'd pick the wild west or the 17, 1800's, when all the guys were really hot. For some reason, I can't help it but find guys in period costumes extremely sexy. :p

I had read this thread a few times. I didn't want to answer till more had responded. I came to conclude that there are many times through out history that I would love to go back and be a part of. Titanic setting sail would be something I would love to see 1st hand. The invention of the 1st air ships, then the airplane. I would love to see what it was like during the roaring 40's and I know I would enjoy the 50's too. I'd love just once to go into a disco club during the 70's, heck, I'd want to try the future if that could be an option. In the end though, I am quite happy living in the here and now.

You would probably get a kick out of going to Medieval Times or Ren Fest then. :) Okay - not the wild west, but still, guys in knights and jousting and noblemans costumes.

I think the wild west would have been fun too....dangerous, but exciting.

:)

I wonder what the people who lived back then would think of the here and now.

1800-1900 for me! I want to be a pioneer in the "wild west". I would have loved to have been with Lewis and Clark. Just call me Sacajawea!

I wouldn't have wanted to be born before this time. I would have been a nightmare before the advent of the technological age. I would have been the firstborn, uneducated (female), blind (crappy glasses/contacts), bucktoothed (no braces), dowry-less (for lack of funding), yankee. I really don't think I would have lived a good life prior to maybe fifty or sixty years ago.

A lot of you may think this is crazy, but many people believe that if you have a deep affinity for a specific place or time in the past it means that you have lived there in a past life.

I used to think that was just weird "new age" talk, but lately I've come to believe there might be something to it.

To get back on topic, I've always loved the Victorian age and also the "wild west." I would have loved to have lived during the Little House on the Prairie days. Maybe that's why I love Fronteirland in Disney so much! :)

Does anyone ever see a really old picture or video and wonder what those people are thinking or experiencing at that moment? I do that all the time.

Not so much that I have wanted to live in another period in history, but I have ALWAYS wanted to be able to "time travel" to meet a few historically significant people....namely, Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family. I cannot wait to get to heaven to meet her!! And while I might enjoy a short time in her time in history (late 1800's) I am sure as heck not ready to give up my 21st century luxuries, like indoor plumbing, central heating, air conditioning, and grocery stores! BTW, for all of you history buffs, there are a few great "living museums" in Massachusetts that come to mind you might like, namely Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA (the town I grew up in) and Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, MA (down near Cape Cod). You can really get a taste of life in their appropriate times.... I believe that PP is time period is 1627 and the OSV time period is the 1830's. Check them both out online at www.osv.org and www.plimothplantation.com.

I'd live in the late 1800's/early 1900's.. only because I'm really into Geneology, and I'd like to find out more about my Great Grandparents!! !
