If you booked on SWA . . .

OP---THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! We were not going to be able to go this year, or use our $215 in vouchers that we had because flights were too expensive and by the time my dh could get off work I was going to be too pregnant to go---well when I checked these flights and with our vouchers our cost was only going to be $75 for Memorial Day weekend(won't have to take off work) DH said go for it so we are now going!!!!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!

Hey guys thanks so much for the posting....I saved $288!!

I called SWA and the agent walked me through the process of changing my ressie online. I didn't have to cancel and rebook so I thought I would post so that if anyone else wants to get the lower fares they could do it without calling SWA.

Here's how to do it:
SWA.com
then click on travel center (at the top)
about midpage left side there is a link for change air
click on that and it will lead you to a screen where you put your reservation # in and the name used to purchase the air. from there you just follow through with the date / time of your flight.
the last screen shows the original price / new price and the amout of credit you will receive. on the last screen you have the option of having the security fee refunded or added to the fare credit.

Yes, that is a nice feature, one I have used often :), and it is very easy, just follow the instructions.
I hope this is not too confusing....it was so easy so much simplier than cancelling and rebooking. And you don't take the chance of cancelling and not being able to find a flight.

Thanks
I had to call because I tried to do it on line and it kept saying I wasn't making a change. Anyway I got $180 credit. I'm hoping I can get it credited to my charge card. Please tell me, do you just call after the trip and ask to have it refunded?
The lady told me it was a credit I had to 01/05 to use.

ushkina --- We are leaving the same day. Too bad you aren't traveling out of HArtford, we might have been on the same plane.

Gail are you sick of me following you around? Are you all saying that I could get a credit by calling to ask for it? It has never dawned on me, I always take my lumps if I see airfare has gone down, and figure I have to pay what I paid when I booked! Not anymore!

Yippee!! Had to post here since my family is sick (already) of me talking about my $95.00 roundtrip nonstop airfare from Raleigh-Durham to MCO in late April!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just wanted to get in on the celebrating!!

:p IVY :p

HELLO!! You people are not paying attention. SWA WILL refund the money back to your credit card. All you have to do is ask. I've done it on more than one occasion. Actually, I'm on hold right now and requested that they credit it back prior to travel and my agent said "No Problem." Call them and tell them you want a credit to your credit card, not SWA credit. You will not be disappointed!!

HELLO!! You people are not paying attention

I'm paying attention. I have asked. All they will give me back on my card is the security payment. The rest goes into an account. Some people are lucky and others are not. Some ask and are told no..some get it credited.

DM Rick- politely and cheerfully ask to speak to their manager. I had someone tell me that and I said, I paid with XYZ credit card and I would like that credited back to the card it was not airline, but if the payment is cleared no one can tell you how they will distribute your money back. Retail stores love to do this now, I hate it because I have to speak to more managers to get my money.

Yes, I saw the PM..as I wrote you there (for anyone wondering why they aren't getting a refund on their cc):

I don't use an agent..and it really doesn't matter since we go to Dis 4 times a year, so it will get used..but yes, I know the proper people to ask..and I've been told each time, the tickets I purchase are not refundable...except as credit towards flights. You have actually been very lucky..not eveyone has been.

Doris

I hate it because I have to speak to more managers to get my money.

In the case of the airline tickets, I've read the rules, and actually SW doesn't even have to give me the credit (they are about the only airline that doesn't even charge to switch, and I hope they stay that way)..so it's not something I'm going to push, beyond an inquirey.

I called last night, they told me I could not get it credited to my charge card. I will try it again after my trip. There are no more seats left on my flight so i don't even understand how they can go down on the price anyway, since is already booked. But i'll take it. Does anyone know if they do not give me the money back can i use it to buy someone else a ticket? I hate to lose $180.

That' s true! :wave2: I can't wait - 44 more days to go :)

I don't use an agent..

Uh oh, I didn't see the PM (of course) am I going to be out of luck because I did? I had to because of DH's work. Ugh. I called Southwest and they said it was a vacation package so I would have to check with my Travel Agent. So you think that means no and she just didn't want to have the confrontation? I would not have confronted, I just am hoping for found money!

I spoke out of hand as far as getting cash versus credit because I have never tried this with an airline. I just get so mad when they will not let me have my money back at retail stores.

Did you guys all book directly with SW? Anyone go through a travel agent? I mentioned this special to my travel agent today and she said no way could we get a refund or credit due to no availability on our flights during April vacation week.
Thanks.

I didn't mean a travel agent - just the agent who answers the phone at SWA. I can't understand why I can get a credit card refund and no one else can. If you call the Customer Service number, they have a special selection for refunds. I used SWA for about 6 trips to Disney and usually book early. When the prices go down, I call and lower my fares. I've always had a refund back to my credit card. The peope who went with me last year did the same thing and had a refund back to their credit card as well. Try the Customer Service number. It's not an "800" and one of the SWA agents can give it to you. There's never a fight or pressure to get the refund. They are always happy to do it.

Thanks for posting reduced fare rate info, worked for dates in May I needed. I called SW directly to rebook Raleigh to Orlando, reservationist worked with me to reduce total cost for two fares by $54. Because it is the same fare category and the dates and times did not change she said can be refunded to my card. Can't believe I'm flying from RDU to Orlando for less than $100 round trip.

That's great for you and others who get it back..not everyone is given this choice. I don't understand why you are finding it so hard to believe...I'm not lying. It's not that other's of us haven't tried..and maybe it depends on unknown factors. I'm very good at getting money back when able...but if I'm told no, I accept it. Again, we go often, so it's not worth putting work into getting back money on unfundable tickets. Again, good for you if you got it.
