Hey guys thanks so much for the posting....I saved $288!!
I called SWA and the agent walked me through the process of changing my ressie online. I didn't have to cancel and rebook so I thought I would post so that if anyone else wants to get the lower fares they could do it without calling SWA.
Here's how to do it:
SWA.com
then click on travel center (at the top)
about midpage left side there is a link for change air
click on that and it will lead you to a screen where you put your reservation # in and the name used to purchase the air. from there you just follow through with the date / time of your flight.
the last screen shows the original price / new price and the amout of credit you will receive. on the last screen you have the option of having the security fee refunded or added to the fare credit.
Yes, that is a nice feature, one I have used often, and it is very easy, just follow the instructions.
I hope this is not too confusing....it was so easy so much simplier than cancelling and rebooking. And you don't take the chance of cancelling and not being able to find a flight.

HELLO!! You people are not paying attention
I hate it because I have to speak to more managers to get my money.

I don't use an agent..
Uh oh, I didn't see the PM (of course) am I going to be out of luck because I did? I had to because of DH's work. Ugh. I called Southwest and they said it was a vacation package so I would have to check with my Travel Agent. So you think that means no and she just didn't want to have the confrontation? I would not have confronted, I just am hoping for found money!
I spoke out of hand as far as getting cash versus credit because I have never tried this with an airline. I just get so mad when they will not let me have my money back at retail stores.
There's never a fight or pressure to get the refund. They are always happy to do it.
