I know there has been a lot of discussion on these boards about the hazards of strollers at places like WDW, but I think a similiar weapon has been overlooked - backpacks!
Our family was in Boston at The New England Aquarium today - a family spot and a place where lots of groups visit. Lots and lots of people. It is also tight quarters. Our youngest is 5 so it hasn't been long since we've been out of strollers so my reflexes are still there to get out of the way of those nasty little wheels.
But those backpacks...yikes! Seems like everyone is carrying them these days. I can understand the families with littles ones who have to carry diapers, bottles, food and changes of clothes - their backpacks look and feel like they weigh 50 pounds! (But why don't they put them in the basket in the bottom of the stroller..??) But what in the world do families of older (out of the stroller and diapers) carry in them?? And why do they forget they have them on their backs? I must have gotten banged into 50 times today by backpacks - some of them hurt a bit - bam! And most of the people doing the hitting seemed to be oblivious that they had this hump on their back - I only got a couple of "sorry!" responses. It's when they turn or try to get into somewhere when they forget they have them on - whack! Guess I'll have to develop my backpack refelxes...
