If it's real HOT outside how COOL do you keep your house with AC of course?

70-71. I'd turn it off completely for any day that is 85 or less, but DH and DS16 have a fit if they are even mildly warm.

My thought is, I spend the better part of 9 months freezing my rear off in the Midwest - WHY would I want to be cold all summer too???!?!?!!!

Being "warm" in a 75-80 degree house is NOT the worst thing! In our old house, we had a whole house fan, which I LOVED! It kept the house cool in any temp under about 85, so we could turn off the A/C, open all the windows and the fan would suck the breezes in all over the house. I miss it!

As it is now, my office is always cold, and the boys keep my house cold, so I really just wear winter clothes all year round nowadays. Today, I have on jeans and a long sleeve lightweight sweater, and it's almost 100 degrees out!My nose and hands are still freezing!

We did not have A/C growing up and it just flat out sucked. So no way am I living in a 75-80 degree house now. But I also think some people are just more warm blooded or cold blooded than others. I've always had issues with heat.

IMO, a 75-80 degree temp reading with climate controlled AC is different than no AC and all of the humidity.

I, too, grew up in an non-AC house. It's definitely NOT the same feeling!

And, yes, I am very cold-blooded LOL

The heat index around here has been 110. I like the a/c turned down low at night so probably 68 or 69. In the early a.m, the house is really cool but it helps to keep the house cool so that it stays cool during the heat of the day and the a/c isn't having to run so hard to cool it off.

I don't keep the house at 80 in the winter, why would I want to in the summer?

76 degrees and we are very comfortable. When I am cooking in the kitchen, 75.

78/79F at night then up to 85F during day and gradually brought back down. 83F in the house at this moment 7PM.

[QUOTE="kimblebee, post: 56145124, member: 240334"To me, there's nothing better than cranking the a/c and sleeping under a heavy blanket.[/QUOTE]

You mean not everyone does this..? Perfectly normal way to sleep :D

When it's humid and in the 80's : 71

IN THE 90'S LIKE TODAY 73 BUT MY HOUSE ROASTS IN THE SUN ALL DAY, WE HAVE NO SHADE REALLY. Had everything closed up pretty tight today.
I kept thinking of my youth. We never even had a room unit growing up. When I moved in with now husband that was the first time I had AC to sleep in.:cloud9:

We live in NC- highs on the mid to upper 90s most of the summer. 74 is our 'sweet spot'- comfortable all day and sleepable at night. We keep ceiling fans on 24/7 in the bedrooms, living room, and den. We tried bumping it up a bit, but even at 75, it becomes too humid inside. We have electric a/c and most months we run it, the bill is around $150. If we have a really hot spell, it can creep up towards $200, but not too often.

We keep the heat down at 62 in the winter, so we save $$$ then. I can always put on a sweater and throw on a blanket if I'm cold in the winter, but I refuse to be hot and miserable in the summer. I will gladly pay more in the warmer months for a nice cool house.

It's set at 79F, which feels fine to me. It likely wouldn't bother me if it was warmer or cooler in the house.

I usually keep the AC set to 75 but if it is humid outside then I lower it to 74 or 73. We replaced our Central AC/Furnace and bill is usually about $150 to $200. Before that, with the old system, we had bills about $400!!

I agree on having windows open and listening to summer sounds!! I love that! We're closed in around here all winter so I hate feeling "closed" in now.

We'll be heading up to the bridge and surrounding area in a couple of weeks. Can hardly wait for all those sounds!!! Enjoy your trip. :)

Thank you, you have a good trip too!

78-80, depending on the day and my mood, if we turn on the AC at all. Yesterday, for example, it was 85 degrees and we didn't bother. Humidity was low, and with fans, we were very comfortable without AC.

ETA: We know cold in these here parts (LOL), so I relish summer heat. We also live on a lake. If it's too hot, go jump in the lake. Cools you to the core and you feel almost cold when you get out. Really.
