If it's raining, which park?

Good morning! Been looking at the 10 day forcast for Orlando, and on one day they are calling for a rainy day. I'm hoping it will change by the time we get there, but just in case......

what park would you go to if it's a rainy day?

We are staying on-site for 5 days, and used the Disney Visa kids stay and play free....so we have UPH. After that we go off-site to stay with my in-laws, and will be visiting the World another 3 days, so we really don't want to give up a day of the parks if we don't have to.

Thanks for the help!

 Hi Wendy:)
My suggestion if you have children (usure of the ages?) to try Disney Quest at Downtown Disney. I have read and heard it is good for many hours of entertaining and fun. It is something you may want to look into.
Hopefully you will get a few more replies with more ideas.
Have a great time!::yes::

Last year we encountered rain for a full day for the first time, we spent the day at MGM. We were with our 2 boys and we bought rain ponchos as soon as we entered the park. We had a great day! Make sure if it is raining, that when you enter the park, which ever one you choose, make a PS for dining. Since it was raining, everybody had the same idea of going inside to a sit down restaurant for awhile. We ate at Sci-Fi in MGM, I think your kids would love that place. Toy Story's Pizza Planet, has counter service for Pizza, and it has an arcade to keep kids busy!

Have fun!

I could be wrong but, I think MGM is the park everyone hits in the rain.

MGM does have a lot of indoor attractions- most of which are pretty long and keep you indoors for a good amount of time. The only things that get cancelled due to rain are the parade and maybe Indiana Jones. Beauty and the Beast will run in the rain as long as its not too hard, but it may be an abbreviated version (first time I saw it, it was raining and they cut out "Be Our Guest")

Future World is also a good choice. Just about everything is indoors so not much gets cancelled or closed due to the weather. Test Track is about the only thing that gets shut down.

DisneyQuest is a good idea, but be aware that everyone else at Downtown Disney will have the same idea. The crowds are huge when it's raining so you may be waiting in very long lines on all of the attractions.

Most people seem to swear by EPCOT in the rain. We never understood that because the park is so wide open you get soaked going from one place to the next.

We will only do MK on a rainy day. The park is very densely packed with attractions. You can do practically all of Fantasyland, for example, and hardly ever step out in the rain. Or you can wander all of the shops on Main Street and only go outside once to cross the street.

If we get a rainy day, we do MK even if we've already been there that trip.

As for DisneyQuest, I've heard that its gets really mobbed on rainy days.

You won't have to lose a day at the parks...

Rain at WDW is common and usually does not last all day. All of the parks , except AK have alots of cover and indoor attractions. The flip side to that is, a lot of tropical animals at AK tend to love the rain and might look brighter (birds & reptiles) or be more likely to come out and say hi.

It is great when it rains because 1/3 of the crowds leave to go to places like Disney Quest that are all indoors.

I would just stay wherever you plan on being that day, don a poncho or raincoat and enjoy. IMO, MK is the best choice for a rainy day, with MGM being second followed by Epcot & lastly AK.
If you have young children who may be more susceptible to colds in the rainy wetness, MK is probably the best choice. As a previous poster mentioned, MK is densely packed. And most people rush to leave and go to MGM.

Thanks for the ideas -- sorry I didn't give the ages for the kids -- 2 boys, 9 & 8; and a girl 6.

I was afraid DisneyQuest would be mobbed, and although MGM came to mind -- that might be where everyone goes. Our plan was MGM for that day (already have PS at Sci-Fi for 2:25 late lunch); but they are calling for rain on other days as well -- good to know that MK and Epcot are both good choices as well.

Our favorite park in the rain is Epcot. We have been in The Land pavillion and have missed entire rain storms.

Generally, we just buy ponchoes wherever we are and keep going. The crowds really thin out and it is always a good idea to have a ps during busy times of the year.

JMHO but I think your kids are too little to easily keep an eye on them in a crowded DisneyQuest.

DisneyQuest is packed when it rains. We did go to MGM during an all-day rain and found it pretty tolerable. Future World will work if there is a pavilion you really like.

One hint - if you are caught on a boat or other transport in a terrible downpour - don't get off! Just stay on until it clears (even on the rainest days, there are usually some spots where it lets up a little). We made that mistake and ended up huddled on the dock at MGM for a half hour with a bunch of others who made the same mistake!

I would steer clear of Disney Quest. Everyone will be headed indoors. We did AK in the rain, it was okay, but there wasn't that much we could do every ride was packed, and so were the shows.

But mostly you will find that the parks clear out during the rain, and stay pretty clear afterwards also. My vote would be MK, there is tons to do, and hardly anything closes--Just make sure you bring your rain gear, and if it for sure is gonna rain, you might wanna bring extra socks and/or shoes for when the rain stops.

We've been stuck in the rain 3 times, the first we went to MGM--it only rained a little, and the park was pretty empty afterwards.

We were at AK, it rained alot, still fun, but my feet got soaked and made it slightly uncomfortable, but we kept going and had a lot of fun. At this point, water rides are alot of fun, cuz you are already wet. I just bought dry socks and continued--13 of us in all. This was in December

Same trip, we got stuck in a major downpour while at MK, this is the only time we left. we went on a couple of rides, but the rain never let up, so we decided to leave. The only draw back, was that everyone was trying to leave, and it was quite packed to get on the ferry or the monorail.

My motto is I'll have fun no matter what.

We always seem to be at Epcot when it rains the hardest. I agree with disneysteve that Epcot has so much open space that it makes it hard not to get drenched when its pouring. Like the other posters, I'd recommend either MK or MGM. But like EsmeraldaX said, there is probably a good chance that the rain will be fleeting and not last long, so you might be fine wherever you are. :):wave2:

Sorry Wendy, now that I have read what the others have said I tend to agree with them. Guess I better stick to asking questions instead of trying to make suggestions.;) Best place to learn though is on these boards! :)
Thanks for the topic.
Have a wondertime whether it rains or the sunshines:sunny:

Glad you asked this question. We've been watching the weather as it comes up for our trip, and although we did see rain each day, now it is showing that it might be more clear than rainy. Anyway, thanks for the great ideas from this thread!
