If I book a room only rate, can I use a code if it comes available?

I remember reading somewhere that you could only change your rate if you were using the same type. Such as room only rate to a room only code. If I have a room only rate booked and a package comes out for the same time, can I upgrade even though I don't have a package booked? I hope my question isn't too confusing

We have done this as long as there are rooms available at the special rate (even if you already have a room booked).

When they offer the specials they usually have a certain amount of rooms blocked out, so as soon as you find out make sure to jump on it as quick as possible.

We have done that in the past, booked at a certain price and then a special lower rate was released and we were then credited the difference.

Yes, you can add a code to a room rate. You could add a AAA discount if you are a member. You can also change codes if better ones come out; if you use a AAA rate and then a code comes out that gives you a better discount then you can switch codes. The CM will adjust your rate and apply the new code.

Thanks, I was wondering if I could go from a package to a room only rate and just buy park hoppers or AP?

Going from a package to room only might be more tricky because packages are booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company, and have stricter cancellation policies. Plus you'll be required to pay a $200 deposit instead of one room night (you might want to read Auntypolly's thread about hating WDTC - I just came from there).

I think the only package that seems to be reallly worthwhile right now is the 7 for 5. Otherwise, I think it might be better to book room only.
