to a DVC reservation and rent points without losing it?

I was able to score a rare 2 BR at the VWL from Dec 11 - 18th, hoping that AP rates would eventually apply. But with the reduction in AP rates, I'm thinking we should just rent. (I'm in the process of working with an owner for an earlier week (we're in WDW for three weeks.))

So is this possible?

Yes, subject availability. CRO cash reservations and DVC points reservations come out of different room available inventories.

December at VWL is very popular so without delay I would start another thread stating exactly what you need. You may get a VWL owner to work with you on a rental where they can reserve for you today. These same rooms become available to owners at the other DVC resorts in May (7 months from your check-out date). I would cancel the CRO reservation once I have the DVC points rental confirmed and finalized. Points rentals are an outstanding value especially in December when most days are either adventure or choice season. Good luck.

By the way hello neighbor.

I was concerned about availability, as I saw a similar request for the same time/accomodations last week which went unanswered. I have until April 4th to put down the deposit, but will probably need the last two nights anyway (as even as rack they're cheaper than DVC weekends).

I'll put up a post later today as you suggested. Thanks again for the help. I was hoping that all I needed to do was get points to apply to the existing reservations, but it looks as if I do have to get new ones.

That's correct you have to essentially start from scratch. You can't simply pay with points what was reserved for cash from CRO.

It's impossible to say why that post you note went unanswered. I'll call Member Services for you in a few minutes (they open at 9:00am) and post availability.

Just got off the phone with MS. December 11th through the 18th, 2 bedrm at VWL is available. Have a great vacation - travel safe.

We'll be five months into our trip around North America at that point, and the kids will need some room to spread out. Hopefully I can find someone who wants to rent their points.

Warmest regards,

MB

Hi MB
Just on option to consider is to rent on points for Sun thru Thursday - this would drop the points needed from 274 (for a 7 night stay) to 152 (for a 5 night stay). Those Fri and Sat nights are point killers. If you want to stay the full seven nights you could leave the Fri and Sat as a cash reservation. We have VWL points available to rent at $11 per point to take advantage of the 11 month booking window if you are still looking.

as you answered this.

That's exactly what I want to do. I'll send you a PM and we can talk turkey off line ;)

MBW,

A few things for you to consider. With children you might prefer a DEDICATED 2 bdrm villa vs a lock-off. A dedicated villa will not have a door exiting into the hallway from the childrens bedroom. Others on this board with children have reported their preference for this type of villa for safety and security reasons. MS confirms dedicated villas are available for the dates you need.

Confirming a dedicated villa makes it posible that you will be assigned one of 6 or 8 EXTRA LARGE corner 2 bdrm villas. These corner villas are laid out differently than the standard 2 bdrm villas and offer much more square footage. Ask the owner you rent from to add the request "request one of the large corner villas" on the reservation. Special requests such as this cannot be guaranteed but, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Be aware that using a points resevration for the weekdays and a CRO reservation for the weekend nights will require you to check-out and then check-in again. This may result in you needing to move from one villa to another. This may not be a problem for you but you should be aware it might happen.

Have fun.
