If DVC cancelled resort hopping...

  • Don't care, we always stay at our home resort

  • Like to sample other resorts, but no big deal if this is no longer available

  • Consider this a major perk, would seriously consider selling

  • Would definitely sell

If DVC were to cancel resort hopping, ie, you would only be able to make reservations at your home resort(s), how would this affect your membership? Without getting into the debate about whether ot not DVC would ever actually do this, I am curious about how DVC members feel about this perk.

Though I like the idea of being able to stay at the different resorts, we always stay at our home resorts unless there is no availability, so practically speaking this would not affect us.

We're new, BWV and VWL, and we're trying BCV and VB this year. We would add on if we liked something so much that we would just HAVE to stay there.

Honestly, I'm more concerned about the business news than DH is, but that's in the back of my head, when I talk about adding on at Vero. If I like it so much that I think I really want to be there in the future, I want to points there to do it.

I am really surprised that many don't care if they couldn't stay elsewhere. I would not have bought DVC if that option were not available as it would have seemed so confining to us!

Nope, it would not really bother me. I like to stay at different WDW resorts very much and will still do so when I am paying cash for weekend nights or business trips but when using points I am perfectly happy at my DVC home resort. I bought where I did because I absolutely love this resort and for me it is the best of the best. I would miss being able to stay at BCV once in a while but that is really no big thing because BWV & BCV are so similiar, it's not really an issue and out of the 2 resorts I do prefer BWV. Also I can use SAB during my cash trips to YC.
I have yet to trade out to a non DVC resort and I would be a little upset to lose this option. But not too upset, since I have not used this option in all the years I have been a member--it is obviously not high on my hit parade. LOL!
Nope, I bought a membership at BWV because I take many trips to WDW on a very regular basis and I love BWV. So if we could only ever stay at our home resort from this point forward--no I would not be very upset.

I've never stayed anywhere except my home resort for 12 years, and have never pool hopped. So, it doesn't affect me at all.

Wouldn't effect me in the least. After 12 years I have yet to have any desire to stay at any of the other WDW DVC resorts.

We like to split our 2 stays a year, May at OKW and Dec at BWV. If it was restricted, I could live with staying at BWV both times, I wouldn't be happy but would not sell.

As someone posted in one of the OKW slide threads, an awful lot of us bought when there was only one resort. We, and others like us, bought with the idea of staying just at OKW because that's all there was. We sample other resorts but mostly stay at our home. So it wouldn't kill us to lose this option.

But this is just a baseless rumor anyway, IMHO. It's all speculation without anything tangible behind it.

We have 3 home resorts so if DVC limits swap outs, so be it, but I would be bummed to never have the chance to stay at HHI and Vero... and heck even VWL again.

We have enjoyed staying at the various on property resorts and have only a few left to try. Same with DVC. We enjoy the flexibility and being able to enjoy varied themes and locations on property. But if it was lost we would still enjoy DVC.

I care. When DH and I bought 5 years ago we were younger (going from 25 to 30 really is a BIG change) and took "value" trips -- cheap food, commando style park time and small rooms for as long as we could get them. We chose OKW because it was the cheapest price (and barely got by, even with a CM discount) and less points per night to stay. It didn't matter if we could stay at another resort -- we were never at the resort.

That said, we've grown up a lot in that five years. Better jobs meant we could add on to our points (at OKW with the same use year because it's easier to plan trips that way, especially in case we ever want a grand villa, etc.). We like the one-bedrooms because we spend more time in the room -- even if it means a shorter stay -- and we love to splurge on room service for breakfast. We spend time at the pools and OKW's pools are boring in our opinion (though that may change -- and I understand others disagree). I also like to workout everyday and the workout rooms at VWL and BWV are much nicer than OKW. So we frequently stay at VWL, enjoyed BWV in January for the first time and hope to stay at BCV in May (have to plan our February 2005 trip first and then see what points we have left for "upgrade" from OKW).

I for one, would be quite unhappy if they stopped allowing us to stay at other DVCs -- unhappy enough that I'd think about selling (we'd make a huge profit given what we bought it for!), or frequently rent out our points to get cash to stay where we want.

But I don't see that happening. They'd get too many complaints and a lot of bad publicity. And so far, the system seems to work fine the way it is.

I'd care but not enough to sell. I bought BCV, when they were selling SSR because I wanted to purchase where I'd most like to stay.

If this occurred, I would (almost) be forced to sell.

I have 2 modest contracts: one at VWL , and one at BWL. In this scenario, I would have no way to combine points from both my contracts for a larger stay at 1 resort.

timC, I had brought this up on another thread. I think there are many just like you that this wodul make making a reservation very hard.

I perosnally wodul not be happy. We liek to move aroudn for soem variety. We own at BCV, but also love VWL. Thsi wodul be heart breaking to me.

I didn't just buy DVC for the fact that I would be able to stay at any of the DVC resorts, but isn't that really what the whole idea is about? Taking this away would be like devising a club at Marriot that would say you could only stay at a Courtyard, Fairfield, or regular Marriot hotel, but not at all three.

This would be an absolutely rediculous move on DVD's part, and if they did it I would consider selling. Yes, I enjoy staying at BCV, but I shouldn't be limited to staying there if I'd like to go to SSR or WLV or BWV, or any of the other resorts.

I'd be very curious what the % is of those members who answered it didn't matter to them who own at 2 or more home resorts? This would then skew the poll results somewhat.

We would seriously considering selling and the final decision would be based on impact of this type of change on the market price of our contracts for resale

We bought into DVC at 2 resorts (BCV and VB) but also like to stay at BWV, OKW and VWL (maybe SSR.....) from time to time as well

Variety is the spice of life

I think it's an unrealistic concern but for sake of discussion, it could theoretically happen. HH and VB would be a somewhat more risk. It would decrease the value of HH and VB far more than the onsite options.

I think polls like these cause needless worry among visitors to the DIS boards. They don't understand this is just theoretical discussion.

I worry about DVC stopping resort hopping about as much as I worry about a meteor hitting the planet.

I purchased to stay at OKW, that's where I stay, and that's where I want to stay.
