If you drive to the pier, do they check your luggage before you board (just like at an airport) ?

Or do you have to lug it onboard ship and be resposible for it all day?

We're considering driving ourselves, we were told parking is $10 per day. Does that seem worth it for a rental car or should we just take a car service. We might stay a couple of days beforehand at SSR.

Still trying to work out all the details.

You would drive into the parking lot and be directed to curbside luggage drop off...just like the airlines!! The porters will take your bags and they then get delivered to your cabin. You could drop off the rest of the family there while you park the car and they could meet you in the terminal or wait for you outside the terminal. If you decide to meet them in the terminal you would need to keep photo I.D. with you. Meanwhile your family would just keep the carryons and then proceed to security scanning and then up the escalators to check in at the desk and then get on the boarding line. After parking the car you would show your I.D. to get into the terminal and then meet up with the family.

The porters are not DCL CM's but independent so a tip is order...$1-3 bucks per bag is an average tip. Very easy process.

You could always drop off the rental car and take their shuttle back to the port. If you do this you might need your cruise docs to get back into the port area. Not sure since we haven't done this before. We have only driven to FL so parked our car there.

How quickly can you get to your stateroom after you board?

I'm asking because we're taking the 3-night cruise. I can get everything we're taking in two suitcases and one carry-on. There are four of us (2 adults and 2 kids perfectly capable of pulling the carry-on). They are all on wheels and super easy to move around. Will they let us carry them all on or are we required to check them? Just wanted to have one less thing to worry about - luggage getting delivered late or to the wrong stateroom.

You will not be able to get into your cabin much before 1:00pm. The room stewards will be finishing up preparing your stateroom from the previous cruisers.
