If 3 of my 8 people don't show for an ADR...

My 180 window opens tomorrow morning. There are 5 of us I'm sure will be at the dining reservation and a family of 3 that I'm not so sure about. They don't know their plans yet.

If I make the reservations for 8 and the party of 3 doesn't want to go to some or all of reservations - will I have to rebook or pay the $10 no show for those 3? I very much don't want to lose my reservations.

If it matters - 4 of us have the dining plan. One reservation will be for HoopDeeDo and not sure about the others (probably not CRT but perhaps other 2-TS meals for the dining plan).

For the regular ADRs no penalty although it would be polite to try to change them if you know well enough in advance. For 2, a 2 top is pretty easy but for 5 they need a 6 top, which is a little harder. For the pre-paid, you will not get a refund and you are just out the cost.

I would know well enough in advance and happy to change it but will the online reservation system allow me to modify it (from 8 to 5 people) without rebooking it completely?

I would book it now so you can be assured you have it, and then if it changes as it gets closer, I would call and ask to modify the numbers. I believe you can also do it online now, by going to change reservation, and then looking for party size. You just can't do it on the app as far as I know. I just prefer to call as I worry I will screw up my ADR!

Book for the largest number in your expected party. It is much easier to reduce than to add on.

You can show up with less than your original number. If you show up with more than your original number, they might not be accommodated. It's best to make a reservation with the maximum amount of guests that will be there. If you find out beforehand, it might be a good idea to call Disney and ask to change the amount. You can possibly go up to the restaurant that day, and let them know in advance.
