Ideal Number of Points

Thought this might be an interesting poll...

Based on your realistic vacationing habits (frequency, accomodation preferences, ability to travel, ability to cover annual dues), how many DVC points do you feel would be the perfect amount to own?

Try to assume your purchase price was already paid for, in full, years ago.

I don't see how you can get any meaningful answers.

I may vacation at WDW 4 times a year for a total of 25 days and feel that 1000 points would be ideal.

You might only vacation every other year for 5 days total and feel that 100 points would be ideal.

It all depends on many factors.

Agreed, but still fun. I'll bite.

It has taken us a few years to decide what that total should be for us. We have had 380 for quite awhile and done just fine, but now that we have 449, we find that to be okay too.

I answered the poll with 300-400.

The "ideal" amount of points really is "none"! We don't NEED these points. They are WANTS!

I did too. I've never stayed longer than an 8 night visit, but we do take family/friends, and the point costs add up! We have a "saving fund" just for the MFs!

I didn't vote "ideal" but based on what we own. We bought 185 to start then added 40 shortly after, so we have 225. Now that our girls are older, it's not quite enough for a two bedroom/7days, but I don't think we can handle any more in annual dues. We are content to just keep the points we have and work with the borrowing/banking options as needed.

I really think that the answer to this poll is "more".

We started with 230 and quickly did a couple of add-ons. Now we've got 500 and we could still use more. Since we first became members in 1995, we've enjoyed our visits greatly.

Or in our case two 1 week periods and we're good. That is unless we bring family and then our days will be dramatically reduced. But that's what we bought the extra points for to share with family.

We have 210 points but another 150 would really round out my Disney time. Sure if I didn't have to pay maintenance I'd love 500-1000 but as it is I don't add on due to the maintenance fees.

I voted 300-400. I think about 300 would be fine for us ... we go once a year and stay in a one bedroom for about a week.

I have 200 points & I think it is enough for my family to go every other year. If money were no object, I would buy as many points as allowed per DVC rules & take more people on our trips with us & go more frequently. I would also consider "snow birding" when we retire, as someone else mentioned in another thread. But for now, 200 is enough for my family.

I think we actually bought enough vacation points at the outset (at least that's what I'm finding as I'm planning out several years worth of vacations). However, ideally, if we were closer to 300 I think that would be perfect for us. Still, since we are on track right now through 2012, maybe the talk of wanting 300 is just the addonitis monster rearing its head.

I have two separte contracts - one for 200 and one for 100. Between the two contracts, I think I have enough points to do about everything I want. Of course, if I had more vacatio time, that would change in a hurry.

We've got 315, but we used about 500 this year since we had double points to spend (because of banked points and developer points.). Part of me thinks what we have now is right for us, since it lets us vacation at WDW at about the rate we did before we bought DVC. Part of me would like 450 or 500 points, however, because having shown my DM and DSF the wonders of WDW golf, they are already planning more trips than any of us thought they would be interested in. So 315 is right for us, but if our family is hoping to make more extensive use of the points, we'd really like a few more.

We started with 365 but now have 500. It works for our family and friends but ideally we would like to own between 750 and 1000 to enjoy more flexibility. Probably won't ever happen though.

I'm not sure I have a good answer for this yet. We bought 160 in April and then just added on 50 to make a 2010 vacation work. I haven't planned for anything beyond 2010 but I know for sure I won't have enough points to do what I want But I would need to convince my DW that our 210 points were not ideal
