Idea for a unique tattoo

my mother has been gone 17 years but I was able to find a couple samples of her signature...The artist took her initials(from her signature) and put it on the right wrist..

just to add: the wrist area was a Very painful spot to have one done...we had to take several breaks for 3 one inch initials..

It's lovely, OP! I have the word "forever" on my inner wrist in my mother's handwriting. I got it almost two years ago before she passed away. It's smaller than yours, being only one word, but I love it. :lovestruc

Ok can I just say how much I absolutely LOVE this!! I may have to get this done, I'm just not 100% sure how my Mom would feel about it. :) She's not against tattoos and I do have one (as does my younger sis and bro) I'm just not sure what she'd think. I'm going to talk to her about and see what she says. :) Not sure I'd do the wrist either, I like being able to hide them if necessary....I don't think I could handle a foot deal at all but maybe something on my ankle......hmmmmm

Depending on what you get written, hiding it may not be something to worry about. My tiny tattoo is easily covered with a bracelet or watch, and even when I don't cover it, it's noticed pretty rarely. At first I covered it regularly, but eventually I stopped bothering because so few people ever notice it. (I'm right there with you about getting something you can easily cover up, though!)

So the top of the foot is painful? That is where I was thinking of getting mine

You just never know but I guess the inside of the wrist is OK because it's not a part of your body most people see regularly. I just really love the thought of having something of my Mom with me all the time. :) I would get it in my left wrist and I usually wear some sort of jewelry (bracelet of course) there anyway so that could help hide it if necessary. I haven't worn a watch in years and when I did I wore small ones because I have tiny wrists..... :)

I'm not a tattoo person at all but I love this idea. If I ever got one (which I would never do), I would do it to honor someone I loved. I guess I had better save all the cards from Mom & Dad in case I ever change my mind.

Out of curiosity for those who have tattoos, where is the least painful place to put a tattoo? Somewhere with a lot of fat I would guess? I have a few of those areas, just in case I change my mind. :rotfl:

Ditto...Mine swelled up and I could barely walk(it's fairly large). I went to the Dr and he said it was normal because the skin on your foot is so thin that the needle comes close to the muscle and bones.:scared1:

Mine swelled up horribly... I had to buy slip on shoes to allow for the swelling... lasted a week or longer. I don't regret it though.... swore I would NEVER have another foot tattoo... but did a couple of years later (although not nearly as large):scared1:

Yea, mine swelled and my foot tattoo is the only one of mine that bled, and it bled A LOT! It's also the one that hurt the most while I was getting it, because it's all needle on bone!

I have My husband's actual signature tattooed on the inside of my right wrist. We went thru a rocky patch in our marriage about 3 yrs ago and when everything settled I got the tattoo. A tattoo is definitely a personal decision and not all people are cut out for the job of getting "inked"...approx 1/2 of my back is covered in tattoo and I have several others...including a 7 inch Tinkerbell on the back of my right calf :wizard:

Trust me, it's noticed.

If you're going to get a tattoo, make it someplace that's covered by your everyday clothing. Don't be the schmuck who has to wear a long sleeve button down to work even in the hottest part of the summer... because businesses DO force you to cover it.

Also, with many people, tattoos just immediately make them think "SKANK" or "THUG" regardless of how enlightened you may think people are.

Just a warning.

Now let me first say I am not the tattoo type person (if there is one, LOL) but I never ever considered getting one. My brother gave me a good idea though. Get our mother to write I Love You on a piece of paper and have that tattooed on my inner wrist, about where a watch would be. I finally caught her (she is 81 but on the go constantly) and got her to write it for me in print and cursive. What do you think?

I have not read the following 4 pages - but I love the idea, a lot.:thumbsup2

I would say my wrist and ankle were the least painful while getting it. Those are also the smallest tattoos so that would help too! Of these 2... the wrist was a lot easier to heal (easier not to bump while asleep and such)... so overall I would say it was the least painful.

DH and I would like to get more tattoos in the future. Some ideas I've thought about for myself are:

1. I've always thought about getting my dog's name tattooed...but this thread go me thinking, maybe I should get ink to dip my dog's paw in. And tattoo his paws on me!

2. A Disney tattoo probably on my foot. I've been thinking of this design, just the Mickey head, not the Disney letters:

My friend wants to get cat paw prints next, she's got 2 already. 1 is a sun/moon combination on her back, 1 is a saying on her ribs and she wants to get the cat paw prints.

i like that Mickey head a lot.....

I don't like names personally, too many people I know regret getting names done. I want my girls' initials, I'm trying to design an anklet with their initials instead of flowers.....I'm having a hard time designing it. I also want a Celtic knot, I thought the Celtic knot on my right wrist and Mom's handwriting on my left might be cool but I'm not sure about the wrist deal yet. I love tattoos, but I also like being able to hide them at times. lol Not that I really care if people judge me......huh or maybe subconciously I still do.....
