Idea for a unique tattoo

I really love her idea, too. Do you have any old cards from her? I do. I could do this.

Hmmmm.......maybe. Not sure where. Somewhere buried in storage. She has been gone for 28 years.
I will have to keep my eyes out.

Yeah, I am glad I went ahead and got her to give me the I love you notes. She is 81 and in great health but she is 81. You just never know. I would be so sad if I never got it. And I am guarding them, LOL. I am going to make several copies so I can play with them, move words closer together or thicken the lines. I may get her to write in a thicker pen. It was a very fine pen she used that I happened to have on my desk when she stopped by my office the other day. I am thinking a fine point sharpie will be perfect.

Y'all are scaring me about the foot tattoo. I have heard they hurt though. But knowing the wrist one doesn't hurt much is pushing me more toward it.

Hi again!

I'm stealing your idea, tonight. I'll post a picture, when I'm done. I'm so excited about it, I wanna REALLLLLY thank you!

My mom passed in 2006, completely unexpectedly. She was 55, I was 32 ~ and an only child. She never remarried when my father and her divorced when I was about a year old. She's all I had. :(

And foot verus wrist. I'm doing wrist...not because of the foot pain, but because its where I want it. Now, I have both a wrist and a few feet tattoos, and while the foot absolutely hurts more, it's not enough pain to deter me from getting it there, if that's where I wanted it. Take a few advil, before....and a shot. ;)

I really need to look and see if I can find something ::yes::
My mother was 59, I was 31 and also an only child, so............look how similar. Not sure where to get it. Can't wait to see yours.
I only have one other on my ankle.

I am not a tatoo person either but if you have to get one, this is a nice idea. If I were to consider doing something like this though, I would put it where it wasn't totally visible to everyone all the time, so on my shoulder or stomach or something though, but that is me.

Now, what I really want to know, and I'm just curious, how much do tatoos cost? I realize that there will be a huge spread in price but say how much is a small heart or something and how much would one be that say covers your forearm? No reason, just something I have wondered...:lmao:

Oh my...so similar. :(

Yeah, be sure to look. Not only am *I* a hoarder keeping every card, ever...so was she! I had gobs of cards to look through! It was absurd. Happy Easter, Merry Christmas.... I settled on my 21st birthday card:

Love You,
Mom
xoxoxoxo

I'm super excited. Thanks again, OP!

I am not a hoarder and she passed away in 1984........so long ago. I have boxes in storage, probably way in the back at the bottom.
I have things she wrote around the house.............like recipes, but I'm not sure if anything has a signature.

I am glad I could help. I am thinking more and more of doing it. I am going to have Momma re-write the I Love You with a darker pen though. I read on here that would be a good thing. Don't know why I didn't think of that before.

I hadn't thought of the foot. If I do it on my wrist it will probably be where my watch would be so I could hide it if I wanted to. The only thing is I have a scar that runs vertically on my wrist where it would be if I did it under a watch band. I hate the scar. Got it when the air bag went off during a car accident but it looks like I tried to kill myself. So I may put it either on my right wrist or above that scar, right below my hand on my left wrist.

I can't wait to see your picture though. You need to IM me so I can be sure and see it.

I priced getting my husband and my name with a small heart shaped hand grenade (like in my signature) on my foot and it would be approx. $225.

Can I suggest you find another artist/studio? That's pretty darn pricey. I have a really, really EXCELLENT guy, who's work puts me in awe. I have a gorgeous lily of the valley on my angle, big, colorful..... $150.

OKAY - what I got:

This was the card I picked:

I'm super happy with it, thrilled really - But I'll be honest with you ~ my g/f and I went out for a drink afterwards, and when I got there, I was eyeballing it, and got a little.... *verklempt*. It was kinda hard seeing her writing, which is so distinct, right there. I'm a feeling stuffer, so I was kind of facing something I try not to think about. :guilty:

But all in all - thank you again, to the OP. Lots of  ! ! !

I love it ! I forgot to come back and check this thread, I still didn't get mine.

Now let me first say I am not the tattoo type person (if there is one, LOL) but I never ever considered getting one. My brother gave me a good idea though. Get our mother to write I Love You on a piece of paper and have that tattooed on my inner wrist, about where a watch would be. I finally caught her (she is 81 but on the go constantly) and got her to write it for me in print and cursive. What do you think?

I think it's a very nice idea, quite unique.

My mother was concerned it would hurt, LOL. She called me later and said if I decided to do it she would go with me to hold my hand. She is 81. I am 49.

Another neat tattoo I saw was on the inner side of your foot. It is a bible verse, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. It was very pretty.

That is so sweet that she would go with you and hold your hand. :)

My oldest granddaughter has 3 musical notes tattooed behind her right ear. She is wanting another tattoo, on her foot, of part of the Footprints verse and little tattooed feet.

I love that idea, and there is a DISer who did the same thing maybe a year or so ago. I thought it was such a beautiful tribute to her mom that had passed away that I always think if I get a tatoo I'd do something similiar.

Only problem is, my dad is a lefty and has terrible handwriting

I've been meaning to come back to this thread and post that I too stole this idea and had it done.

My mom is very ill (kidney failure, MS etc.) and I truly don't know how long I have her for. I had her write I Love You about 15 times and when she asked what it was for I just said I was doing something "crafty" with it! Showed her the results at Christmas and it brought tears to her eyes. Now I have a piece of my mom with me all the time.

I absolutely love it and it seems to resonate very strongly with most people. I've had all positive reactions to it, even from people who generally don't like tattoos.

Thank you so much for this idea.

My tattoos have ranged in price from $60 (small circle tattoo) to $275 (about the size of my hand (palm and fingers) in total.)

My husband's most expensive was $325 (similar in size to my larger one but more detailed I guess)

I do tend to go when I can get discounts though ($20-$50 off)

Some tattoo places do have a minimum charge... so even if it's tiny it would cost that. Also some (my current one now that I've moved) have a surcharge for certain areas. I think my place in OH is cheaper than my new place in FL... but who knows... maybe their prices have gone up by now.

My dd took my signature, mommy and put it on one foot and daddy on the other. It came out great.

Aww...glad you got it done.
I am still looking for a signature.....to the point of any, not just to me.
I think all my papers are at the back of a very full storage locker.
