I'd like advance warning of sound attached to threads!

I don't like it when I open a thread and music or sound plays. We have a room air conditioner in my computer room and sometimes there will be a napping family member in here. Plus I am a fan of quiet and the sound STARTLES me!!!

Anyone else agree???

There's usually sound in the threads where I wish someone a happy birthday and congratulate someone for their post count.

You've been warned :)

Had that happen to me a few times. I fixed it by using earphones plugged into the speaker jack. Sometimes when I DIS I listen to music on the computer. Never wakes anyone in the room and lets me "zone" out too.

The easiest way to do that is to just turn your sound OFF.

I'd like to know for another reason.

At home I have a sloooooow dial up that takes FOREVER to download sound! If I open a post with sound it can sometimes take up to ten minutes to download it! If I know that it has sound I can wait till I'm on the ultra mega PCs on my desk at my office.

I'd appreciate it, thanks!

Well, I know I could turn my sound off....I just don't think about it. And those "noisy" threads don't happen that often. I just wish there was some sort of symbol you could use, like the smiley or sad faces some folks use to indicate sound in the thread.

Thanks for the warning, nativetxn. I'll file that away with all the other stuff I can't remember!!:D :D :D

I am on an old fashioned dial up as well, and it does seem to hold up the whole shebang when there is sound attached, but not 10 minutes, YIKES!

I don't mind the sound all that much, but if it were as long aS 10 minutes, I'd have to skip over those threads entirely!

I always try to keep my sound clips very short for the benefit of the dialup users. And I have been startled many times by sound effects and loud music that I didn't expect. My cubicle mates have come to expect the unexpected from my PC's speakers.

Sounds nice and steady, don't think we'll be calling for a crash cart anytime soon!

You can assume a picture thread I post will have sound. I too, try to keep them small, midis, usually in the 35K or under, though a few times I have used larger wav files.

Maybe the powers that be can come up with a smilie with a large ear of an ear with sound wave symbols coming out of it. I usually have my volume turned way down, and if a song is on a post and I want to really hear it I turn it up.

I keep my sound off.

If I have a song title in the thread, be forewarned.;) But then again, if I'm not the thread starter, I can't forewarn you about sound.

Perhaps we could vote on one of the existing icons. I asked about a musical icon long ago and apparently we are stuck with the ones we already have.

We could choose one of them to indicate music, perhaps the exclamation point? or the page?

Of course, like Shannon said, if you add sound and you didn't start the thread there's no way to give a warning.

It was actually a thread you started that prompted me to start this one, Browneyes!:D :D "My SO has gone too far"...It scared the he** out of me. DS 16 had the volume waaaay up and I nearly jumped out of my skin!!!:D :D :D

Dan, I HAD figured that out about your picture threads. The pictures are always so nice, AND I remember to turn the sound down!!:D :D

LOL! I didn't add sound to that thread. Someone else did. I had my sound off and didn't know it existed.:)

Sorry, I couldn't warn you on that thread, I didn't know about it.:) I just checked it out, and I see the sound file, but I can't hear it.

OK, y'all. That heartbeat is annoying!!! I feel like I'm in a nightmare of Pink Floyd's!!!

I can't hear a heartbeat!! Since I'm the one with the complaint, I guess that's a good thing!! And I LIKE Pink Floyd!:p

Browneyes, I don't know what the music was...I closed the thread really FAST!!:D :D :D
