Ice Wine

Last night on the Thirsty Traveler on Food TV they were talking about ice wine (Vin Glace). Only saw the last 15 minutes of the show. Have any Canadian disers tried ice wine? Is it good? Is it expensive? The host kept talking about how it was so expensive.

I am not Canadian but I tasted iced wine while visiting there. It is a very sweet dessert wine. Everytime we go over the border I make sure to buy a bottle. I have found it in the US and it was $30-35 for a small bottle. (that is if my memory serves me right) It is very good.

Le Cellier has Inniskillin Ice Wine on their menu, and they do sell it by the glass.

Ice wine is made only when a major and unexpected
chill hits the vineyards before the pickers are able
to get the grapes in. the temperature has to be just
right-it brings the sugar in the grape up fast and
makes it impossible to make other wines. It's expensive
because it's rare and naturally sweet. I love it. Germany,
specifically the Moselle River Valley, is a great place to
get it if the past season was good. Canada is producing
Ice Wine? I must get some.

Ice wine has the most glorious taste! LOL It is something that you would only have a little of as it's so sweet but the taste is incredible!The price is verrrrry expensive but worth every penny!

Ice Wine is fabulous! Many of the vineyards in Northern Michigan also make Ice Wine. (yes we make wine in Michigan and it is wonderful).
The ice wine from Black Star Farms won a gold in the International Eastern Competition and in the Tasters Guild competition. It was served at the White House. It is a great one and the vineyard is beautiful.

I've had it several times, very sweet... but not a fave of mine though... Hey, CC lives in a region noted for its famous ice wine.
