Any one else out there every have one? I have been diagnosed with IBS but now my doc wants to do this test because he thinks I have an irritation on my pancreas. I am FREAKING out...oh yeah did I mention I found this out today and we leave in 6 days for our trip...:sad2:

My DS, 13, has been diagnosed w/ IBS. He has not had this test you mention but the doctor successfully treats his IBS with a medication called Levisin. This medication has helped my sons daily life dramatically!

I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy when I was diagnosed w/ ulcerative colitis.

I was also completely freaking, as I had never been put under before. The only bad parts of it were the meds the day before (which maybe you didn't have to do?), and coming out of anesthesia I was worried I'd say a bunch of stupid things, which I don't know if I did or not. I don't remember the first couple hours after coming out of anesthesia.

I wanted it done, though, so I'd have some answers. And it did do that. They can't treat it if they don't know what it is.

Don't freak out over the test. I've had multiple endoscopies plus a whole bunch of other weird tests. One involved having a tube down my esophagus hooked to a computer - I wore it for 24 hours and even went to work like that.

You are not put out for the endoscopy like with general anesthesia. It's kind of a twilight kind of thing. You should not feel a thing - nor will you be really aware of what is going on.

But you come out of it very quickly. I remember my doctor saying to the nurse "we'll tell her this later as she is still out" and I said "no I'm not". But they were totally done so it's not like I ever felt anything. It's just that you come back very quickly after they stop the anesthesia.

Someone will need to drive you home - but I was totally normal within hours after the test.

Best wishes with the results.

I think I can shed some light on this~I am an endoscopy RN. The endoscpic ultrasound in just like having an egd, only this scope has an ultrasound end, which enables us to visualize the pancreas (& other organs), through the wall of the stomach and small intestine. You will be put in a "twillight sleep" which we call conscious sedation. This involves 2 or 3 meds~ a narcotic and a sedative. You do come out of the sedation very quickly and most people do not remember a thing! We are also able to take biopsies through the scope and you do not feel any of that. This is a great test, when done by an experienced physician. Make sure that the gastroenterologist that is performing this exam, specializes in endoscopic ultrasounds. Most that don't, will refer you to someone who is more adept at performing them. Good Luck, and remember that you always feel relieved after these tests because you usually get the answers you are looking for!;)

THANK YOU! That was very informative to hear it firsthand from someone who knows the procedure. I am definitly nervous about getting it done but trying to put it out of my mind until I get back from Disney (looks like we will be there around the same time :) ). I appreciate your post!
