I think I can shed some light on this~I am an endoscopy RN. The endoscpic ultrasound in just like having an egd, only this scope has an ultrasound end, which enables us to visualize the pancreas (& other organs), through the wall of the stomach and small intestine. You will be put in a "twillight sleep" which we call conscious sedation. This involves 2 or 3 meds~ a narcotic and a sedative. You do come out of the sedation very quickly and most people do not remember a thing! We are also able to take biopsies through the scope and you do not feel any of that. This is a great test, when done by an experienced physician. Make sure that the gastroenterologist that is performing this exam, specializes in endoscopic ultrasounds. Most that don't, will refer you to someone who is more adept at performing them. Good Luck, and remember that you always feel relieved after these tests because you usually get the answers you are looking for!
