Oh geez. Is there anywhere you can move the car that would be out of the line of the tree falling in any direction? Aside from the getting online thing, if the tree does happen to fall on the house or even if it doesn't fall but you get enough damage/prolonged power outages/whatever that you want to leave, you're REALLY going to want to be able to use the car (not to mention that the car air conditioner will save you from the heat for awhile).

I have a two car garage and I have the car parked on the far side, as far from the tree as it could be. There is nowhere to park it that it would be away from the tree if it is out of the garage, I live on a hill, and the back yard slopes too steeply for me to move it around to the back. I think if the tree falls on the house, it’s much more likely to take out the kitchen and front door than the garage. It would be more likely to fall across the driveway, since some of the limbs overhang the part of the driveway closest to the street.

I agree that the first thing I will want to do if the house sustains damage is leave for a hotel or other accommodation for the duration of repairs. I have my bags packed with all the important things, so,I will be ready whatever happens.

Right now if you are looking at wide-range radar as the eye comes ashore near Cape Coral, you can see that the forward outer wind bands are sometimes reaching Melbourne.

That is 135 miles away as the crow flies, and that represents only *half* the width of the storm. This storm is MASSIVE.

My sister evacuated to the East Coast but is under a tornado watch where she ended up. This storm is horrible.

We had plans to go down and see the new baby and visit in 2.5 weeks. Obviously we wouldn’t dream of entering an area that people are being asked to stay away from, but if it’s safe and we are allowed to go we will to help out .

Have family with house and boat on canal off Tampa Bay so been watching close.

Tampa suddenly says they feel a tiny bit better because the tide is lower than it should be.

What? That is ominous.

Then a short while later I see this.

The storm is sucking the water out of the bay - which makes the storm bigger ... stuff out of the movies.

The plus for the folks close to this water it means less water surging in when it hits. So you get a few less feet of water. Good for my family as they are on canal.

The con is that water gone made the storm itself bigger with more water to drop inland.

I feel like they should have named this bad boy Thanos!

How did you fare? We're in New Orleans, and the house held, though it shifted. The aftermath was brutal, but we feel very blessed.

Channel 10 out of Tampa (wtsp.com) is periodically showing some really amazing live-feed footage that is being captured by cameras mounted by a private company called Severe Studios. I don't know how these cameras are not going dark under those conditions, but it's incredible footage.

If it's already flooding, they should probably leave. We haven't even started getting bands yet, just the forward pushing winds.
San Marco and Riverside will absolutely go under water; those areas flood when we get an inch of rain...it's going to be 10+" according to this morning's forecast. Black Creek area too.

They harvested as much fruit off their trees, etc. as they could yesterday and headed inland this morning. This is so scary! I don't envy all you East Coast folks right now.

According to NHC, Ian officially made landfall near Cayo Costa around 3:05 PM as a category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

Is this shaping up to be not as bad as expected, or is it still just too early to tell? The news I'm watching isn't covering much beyond the radar, but the times they have newscasters on location, things don't look as bad as I was expecting them to look (yay). Fingers crossed!

Depends on where you're looking. The Weather Channel just showed a time lapse over three hours of Fort Myers Beach, water came up over 6ft in that time. Bigger problem is how slow this thing is moving. I'm hearing some areas will be without power for two weeks.

Not sure what you're watching, but there are coastal communities that were already under feet of water two hours ago, and the eye is only partially on shore right now. It's bad.
