Yep always wondered how people who state that they have severe allergies, deal with this. I always see pets at Non pet hotels.
Actually to me a Pet Friendly hotel is likely to be cleaner because the pet is known about and a fee is charged to provide special cleaning.
At a nonpet hotel, people sneak them in and the room get the normal cleaning with then leave.
I would love to tell you that special cleaning is done everytime a pet is checked in and out of the hotel. It is done whenever something happens but most of the time that fee is just extra revenue. Same with the whole "desmoking procedure" that someone else mentioned. That involved sticking an ozone machine in the room for hours. Not washing curtains, walls, carpets, etc. Yes, this was also at Disney, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, etc...so many severely allergic people have stayed in rooms where dogs have stayed or people have smoked and not had issues surprisingly.
If you were to require responsible pets, I guess the only way you could do that is by requiring CGC exams to be given at check-in.
