I wish DVC had pet friendly rooms

Yep always wondered how people who state that they have severe allergies, deal with this. I always see pets at Non pet hotels.

Actually to me a Pet Friendly hotel is likely to be cleaner because the pet is known about and a fee is charged to provide special cleaning.

At a nonpet hotel, people sneak them in and the room get the normal cleaning with then leave.

I would love to tell you that special cleaning is done everytime a pet is checked in and out of the hotel. It is done whenever something happens but most of the time that fee is just extra revenue. Same with the whole "desmoking procedure" that someone else mentioned. That involved sticking an ozone machine in the room for hours. Not washing curtains, walls, carpets, etc. Yes, this was also at Disney, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, etc...so many severely allergic people have stayed in rooms where dogs have stayed or people have smoked and not had issues surprisingly.

If you were to require responsible pets, I guess the only way you could do that is by requiring CGC exams to be given at check-in. :rotfl: It just sucks for those of us with well behaved pets who clean the room like crazy regardless (I do even if my pets aren't there - lets just say ignorance is bliss) that some irresponsible person thinks that their dog is so great and they go to town in the room.

Yet another vote for no pets in DVC. I agree with all of the reasons listed above.

Would you bring your animal to a friends or family members home who does not like or have animals of their own and expect them to welcome your animal into their home. Probably not.
DVC is my home I know it is because everytime I go there they tell me "Welcome Home"

I agree - no pets, too many problems.

To the above poster. We have a cat obviously who stays home when we travel. We have a neighbor who watches out for her every few days when we go away. However almost every other family member has a dog. And when we go to my MIL's house for family gathering everyone brings their dogs. Most of the time people say "Oh I didn't have money for a kennel." Can I say I wish my family thought of it like you and all our family visits did not have to involve other's pets. I don't hate dogs I just think that people think that if they love their dog everyone else will too.

I love my golden retriever and miss her when we're away, but there is NO WAY I would want pets allowed in the DVC resorts for all the reasons mentioned already, and you can add to that Fleas, because someone would be sure to bring an animal that had them. And this is not any vacation for a pet either. They'd be in a strange place, left alone for large parts of the day, and stressed. A big part of our vacation planning is arranging for a family member or friend to stay at our house with the dog so that she doesn't have to be boarded. She still misses us, but she is cared for and comfortable at home. I would vehemently oppose any move to allow pets in the DVC resorts.

Exactly that is my point. I sympathize with anyone with allergies or any medical condition. But if they travel often they are bound to end up in rooms where pets have come and gone and did not even know it.

I know someone that snuck a baby lion in a room once. :rolleyes1

Add me as another who would not like to see pets allowed. I have severe allergies to cats and dogs. After the initial sneezing and watery eyes, I get a severe asthma attack. When we stayed at the Hard Rock at Universal, I was so afraid of their "pet friendly" policy. They said all animal rooms are located on the first floor only. I did not have any problems. We were on the 5th floor. It was weird seeing people walking their dog. Even though I never had a pet, I do understand how attached people are to them.

People can be attached to their pets without taking them on a Disney World vacation. I have done Disney World in conjunction with a dog show by leaving my dogs in the kennels there. Believe me, it was a royal PITA to constantly have to go walk them each day. It is no vacation for you OR them that way. They are in strange surroundings, and your vacation is constantly interupted.

Okay, I guess I'll be the only one who agrees with the OP. The only part I don't like about vacation is trying to decide what I'm going to do with my Great Pyrenees and Skye Terrier. I feel guilty as sin boarding them, so much so that I get LESS excited as a trip gets closer.

My Great Pyrenees is easily scared and is probably way too attached to me, but I always worry that she's going to become bloated from anxiety when I'm away. I have about a 50/50 chance of talking my sister into staying at my house petsitting when I'm gone- and I actually pay her out the nose to do this! I have no other family members who will even consider doing it. My friends are all married and have kids, so they wouldn't be able to leave their families for 10 days to stay at my house. It is a huge problem for me!

I would gladly pay a pet deposit and a cleaning fee if I could bring my dogs with me. I'm sure they would cause less damage than is already being done to the rooms with people spilling soda all over couches and floors and scratching up furniture.....

I hire a dog/house sitter to come in. Bear in mind that I have 7 dogs, so if you talk about paying through the nose.... I can NOT imagine vacation being much of a vacation at all with pets along. Besides, Great Pyres are HUGE and Skye's often don't do well with strangers. NO WAY do I want you to bring them to my home (DVC or otherwise) no matter how much you want to pay for the "extra" cleaning.

I couldn't disagree more, but remember it's just my opinion. And this is coming from someone who owns 2 Labs that I absolutely love. Here's the problem...

1. Pet hair, it's unavoidable and everywhere. I would never want to subject non dog owners or mousekeepers to that.

2. Dog poop. As much as you say that you are contientious, not everyone is, period. Nuff said about that.

3. Barking. And you know it will start. Incessantly.

4. Smell. From fur, pee accidents etc.

It just should never be allowed. These resorts are just too beautiful and clean to bring dogs and cats in, no way, no how.

Another ditto. And I have 2 dogs, but would never want DVC to allow pets. However, a special hotel only for families and pets would be fine with me.

Absolutely no to the pets! What would they do all day while you go to the parks? Probably sit in the room and bark. I camp one week each summer at a state campground which allows pets in the campground but not on the beach. Nearly all of the campers seem to bring their assorted dogs along. They leave them alone at the campsite while they are on the lake or at the beach and they all BARK ALL DAY LONG!! It is super annoying.

Are there a lot of places in that area you camped in that don't allow dogs? Because I don't understand that at all. When we go camping, nearly everyone brings dogs but they are out with them during the day. The dogs are on the boats, hiking with them, or whatever. I have never once seen or heard a dog left alone while the owner was off doing something else. There is no way my dogs would ever be left unattended. The only reason I am 100% against dogs being allowed at Disney hotels regardless of if they are DVC or not is the leaving your dog alone all day aspect. If you need something to cuddle with at night, bring a teddy bear.

As far as boarding, we don't board any of our animals - too many bad stories but we get a petsitter to look in on them and they always do fantastic. We have a webcam as well so we can spy on them anytime we want to. :D

Celebration World Resort is the only Orlando-area timeshare that I know of that allows pets. The Silverleaf might have (most of their resorts did) but the entire resort system changed their pet policy a year or two ago, and no longer allows them.

No - one word - allergies!

I would know in about 20 seconds whether a pet had been in that room in the past few weeks or months, depending on the scope of the cleaning jobs done. My eyes, nose, throat and skin thank you for not bringing animals. (I know, service animals, and yes I cringe when I see them, not because they shouldn't be there but because I know I will suffer accordingly.)

Plus, as an owner, I don't want to be assessed extra dues to take care of that. And, I don't really want to deal with pets of others who might be on the resort grounds. Whole issue about kids approaching unfamiliar dogs, etc...

No, no, no for all the reasons above! I am a huge pet lover, especially dogs, but I don't want them at DVC. My DS is highly allergic to pet dander & I would not want to worry about what animal had been in the room before us. I hope DVC never goes this route.

Hi Rupert:
The campground we stay at is on Lake Michigan. Dogs are allowed on the hiking trails, but not on the beach. Many campers spend long portions of the day on the beach leaving their dogs at the campsite unattended and barking! I am not much of a beach sitting person and spend my time at the campsite. Last summer there were two dogs at two separate campsites next to us that barked at each other all day. When the "Mom" of one of the dogs returned in the afternoon I went over and told her that her dog had been barking for several hours. She looked at me and said "No, my dog doesn't bark."

Anyways.....I like dogs....but only when they are well behaved and under control. I would NOT BE IN FAVOR of having accomodations for any type of pets at WDW beyond the kennel situation they already have.

Your example is a perfect one, because often dogs are quite different when you are gone versus when you are there. I have two boarding dogs right now who are obnoxiously loud as soon as their owners leave. They don't bark at all at home though, because I have asked.

That would be annoying. I don't see the point of taking dogs on vacation if they aren't going to be with you the entire time.

There are companion dogs (cats?, I don't know) that must be allowed, and I imagine there are DVC members that have one and I guess some of the rooms have had these in them. So, I would not be against having an area reserved as pet/companion areas. At least that way, everyone would know where the areas are. I would not be bringing my pets to WDW, I just don't think it would be much of a vacation for them.

Yes, Bobbi, they do allow service animals, but they really couldn't have a seperate "pet" area if they wanted the resort to be near 100% occupancy all the time. As you can see by this thread, there is a LARGE majority who do not want a pet section. That means there would be a percentage of rooms that might rarely be filled if you had a pets only section to the resorts.
