I took my DD rollerskating last night. My first time in 24 years.

Not too bad, either. Like riding a bike! I just knew I'd have to learn all over again, but I was able to spin, turn around backwards and skate, and cross my legs. Now.. I'm not quite sure what happened to my rhythm, because it was gone... but I had fun, broke a major sweat and got some great exercise.

My DD6 LOVED it. I have a feeling that I've found my new weekly exercise routine.

Any of you who used to go as kids gone as an adult?

My parents met for the first time at a roller skating rink.

I grew up skating. We'd go on Sunday afternoons usually. Loved all the "special" skates, like ladies only, the snowball, the hokey pokey, etc. Also, our church would take part in "church night" at the skating rink too. Once a month during the school year. Wonderful memories as a child.

My Dad was an excellent skater, he was so light on skates, weaving in and out, etc. I always loved skating with him.

Our local rink used to have an adults only skate, on Tuesday afternoons. Dad, my DH and I would go often (Mom sat and watched - she was too afraid to get on skates when she got older, she was afraid of falling and breaking something). I remember skating with Dad to Holly Dunn's song "Daddy's Hands." Another wonderful memory.

DH and I "met" while cruising around town, but the first time we exchanged names was at the same roller rink that my parents met at. :)

My only regret is not getting Dad skating on video. :( He passed away almost 2 years ago. Thankfully I've never heard Holly's song again, I know I would cry like a baby if I did.

But yes, roller skating is fun. I never got good enough to skate backwards, but could cross my legs on the turns. I've always loved watching really good skaters on the rink.

Yep, I took it back up last year, the BF is huge rollerskater & ice skater.

There are 2 or 3 places around here to go, we go at least once a week.

Started ice skating too, even been learning to play hockey. Nothing like stick practice on Saturday night to keep a couple together!!

I think it'll be a nice activity for my DD and I. I definitely need to get in some aerobic exercise, and I'm reading that you lose around 400 calories in an hour.

Parents owned two rinks so I grew up in them. Took the DD to a birthday party at the rink the family used to own on Monday night and I hadn't skated in 10 years. Just like riding a bike except a little slower than it used to be.:thumbsup2

I used to be a competitive skater in both speed and what they now call "jamskating".

My DD just wouldn't believe me when I told her I was going to teach her. She was amazed that I did so well. She is all gung-ho about going, which makes me excited. I loved watching her not give up. She fell and fell and fell again, but kept getting back up and going. I was proud.

I'm now looking online for rollerskates for her Christmas present. Thankfully, they're not that expensive.. $30-$40 for her size/age. That's cheaper than a DS or Wii game! I may even get myself a pair!!
