So I think we will keep our November 3-14 trip to Florida (Disney plus timeshare in Cape Canaveral) so I’d like to ensure I have everything straight to go as smoothly as possible!
1) 3 days or closer to flight departure I need to get Covid negative test - I’m in Ontario and I see Shoppers has a $199 test but also a rapid test for $40. Is the $40 test acceptable? Also do I put this test into an app or just bring paperwork to show?
2) Returning to Canada I would make an appointment with Walgreens in Cape Canaveral 72 hours prior to flight to get the Rapid ID NOW test and input this information into the ArriveCAN app- anything else I need to do prior to arriving at airport?
3) my husband and I are mixed AZ+Pfizer. Do we need to show our proof of vaccinations at any point during the travel or at any locations while in Florida?
4) we both have good health coverage through our work which I contacted today and we have same coverage as per Covid when travelling and if we caught breakthrough case we would be able to access treatment. But no coverage for accommodations so I guess we would have to find cheap accommodations and test every day until we were negative? Anyone test positive and had to last minute find accommodations!
5) we are thinking of making our flights on Friday and Monday to help avoid the congestion at airports on weekends. Has anyone travelled recently and can comment on getting out in and out of Pearson or MCO- customs, baggage etc?
6) what else have others done to make their travels smoother!? Thanks!

AFAIK you’ve gotta have a PCR or antigen test to get on a plane. Make sure it’s one of those and you should be fine.

The $40 Shoppers test is fine for going to the USA. I don't believe there is an app to fly to the USA. You will need the paperwork or show it on your phone I guess.
Coming home you need the PCR test. NAAT I think at Walgreens. I am using BeeperMD as they will come to the hotel, and I won't have a car to do a drive through test.
Can't speak to airports yet, we are going end of October, but Air Canada has changed their guidelines in Toronto, you will want to confirm how early you need to be there. I'm connecting from Ottawa and while kiddo thinks the 3 hour layover is going to be too long, I am worried it won't be enough time. We come back through Montreal and I'm not sure if it will be the same as Toronto or not.

Pay attention to announcements from the US regarding implementation of their new rules for international travelers arriving by air. They have said they will come into effect in "early November" but have not yet given a date so it is not clear when exactly that will be.

IF it comes into effect before you are to enter the US you will need to pay particular attention to:
- pre-travel test requirements, if any
- arrival test requriements, if any
- any test requirements during one's stay, if any
- what vaccinations are "accepted" - in particular do they accept the AZ-mRNA mixed dose as being considered "fully vaccinated" or not|
- what documentation is needed for proving the above [eg paper, app; what the documents have to say, etc]

1. $40 antigen test accepted. When checking in for flight online I had to complete attestation. I had to show the results when I did bag drop at the airport.
2. Yes, ID Now test from Walgreens. They will have a PDF you can download to your phone to show at airport. For the ArriveCan App, you upload your proof of vaccination.
3. US could change rules, right now there is no vaccination requirement.
5. I flew on a Sunday with no issues. (I also have Nexus which made Toronto not an issue, I avoided the extremely long line). MCO was fine on a Sunday. I had no ones there.
6. Have your paperwork easy to access (hard copy or on phone). Complete ArriveCan for all travelling members before going to airport. They will ask you to show it at check in. You then show again when going thru customs.

I flew in from Paris. I showed the ArriveCan app and my negative test in France to get on plane, not here. I breezed through customs here, but it could have been our timing. Canadians use the machines still in customs - even though there were lots of people it was really quick. I went from landing to taxi in 45 minutes. But arrived 3:30pm on a Wednesday. AS long as you have the proper tests, it went fairly quick. But side note - if you are doing online check-in and printing baggage tags, you still need to line up to see an agent to check your papers and tests. they will make some mark on your boarding pass that will allow you through security.
