I think we are done with Ohana

I'm not sure the problem is the decline in 'Ohana quality so much as customers realizing the eat-til-you-burst concept gets less attractive when you've tried other options (I'm not crazy about buffets either). Mass produced food like 'Ohana's isn't gonna be very good.

not sure. i think there is a massive difference in quality between 'Ohana and Boma. massive.

it's kind of like when people say that "chains have lousy food." well, some do and some don't.

Sure. But a glance at Boma's menu tells me it's attempting something different while 'Ohana offers what any rotisserie presents nightly for a third of the cost. Plus, Animal Kingdom Lodge has Jiko.

I have to agree. I used to just love 'ohana and was a must do every trip. Last dec was our last. We were late for our ADR ( due to a 2 hour wait for the boat at FW but that's a different story) and the cast member, at the podium, was so nice and helpful I knew we were back 'home'. As soon as we were seated the cm took our drink order. Another cast member literally threw the salad on the table ... Half ended on the table... Next was the pot sticker meats and sides ... About 10 min later came the bread... We received 2nd helping on all meats without being asked ... Then our drinks along with the check...When I asked for more chicken the cm said 'really?' Looking at my plate full of other kinds of meats that I didn't eat ( or asked for or even wanted) ... He said 'ok whatever' and brought out more chicken. He then informed us that although the tip was already added we could feel free to leave more. Honestly I would have asked for a manager but it was 9 pm and we had been on the go since 6 am and I was too tired to deal with it. My dh and I just decided to let that place go and there are many others we haven't even tried yet.

sorry to hear that, but i can totally agree with you. Ohana was my #1 restaurant, until i discovered Kona, but on our last trip which was 3 years ago, everything for us was just how you described. I could not even ask for a straw b/c the server plopped off the food and left so quickly. I was hoping to eventually have a second to ask for one but i never did. We were so rushed and the server did not care one bit to stay around a second longer than necessary.. YET he spent TONS of time chatting with the large table next to us.

We've been long time fans of Ohana, but after the third horrible dinner experience there (since this past March), I think we're done traveling there. We enjoyed it so much that we kept giving it another chance, but our dinner experience last night has sealed the deal. We had a 6:45 ADR, were seating around 7:00. before we all sat down, someone had walked by, threw the salad on the table and disappeared without a word. Our server showed up, holding a tray of dirty dishes, to take our drink order. When she returned, she had gotten three of five drinks wrong. Two more platters of food were dropped on our table in the meantime, again without saying anything. Then our server and the woman who was throwing food at us came around and put meats on our plates without even asking if wanted any. Our table was cleared, dessert was brought - along with our check. We were out of there in less than 40 minutes from the time we sat down -- and that includes the time it took her to get her machine to work with my MB. The food was lackluster at best. Very Rare steak, dry chicken, tough pork, bland veggies and wings. The service was horrific. It wasn't just our table that was rushed out the door either, so they must be on a very restrictive schedule to get the next group of people in the door. Definitely not worth the $163 bill we received with our dessert! We had similar experiences in September and March as well - although there was less food throwing on those occasions ;) So, sadly, we are moving on. We will be heading to Boma instead.

I tried Ohana once in 2011 had the worst table service we ever experienced anywhere locally or WDW.

Im sad to hear this because we are going around Christmas time, and if it was over $150 , and we get sucky service like you had said, that is something I would not take, I would speak to a manager then back to your resort , maybe they could of comped the meal or given a credit to go somewhere else. But for that price rather of just spent the extra and went to the Yachtsman Steakhouse

We used to love going to see Lilo and Stitch, but after our last breakfast there, we are OK to skip it next trip and try something new. We didn't have a "horrible" experience per se, but it was enough of a let down for us to re-evaluate where we want to spend our money for a sit down meal.

Just returned last night and wanted to report back that our dinner at 'Ohana on our arrival day was wonderful as usual! :thumbsup2 Food was delicious and server very attentive. Can't wait to go back!! :goodvibes

That stinks! We really enjoyed Ohana, but I subscribe to the 3 strikes and you're out rule and you've hit that mark - I'd be done too! That's why we can't go back to Chef Mickey's! :scared:

Ignore reviews. Go yourself and make up your own mind. Tell your server to slow down on food. I liked Ohana and would hate for a few bad reviews to cloud your own judgement. Also remember that for every bad review here, 5 more people probably think it's awesome.

On the plus side, it frees up space there for those who like it and frees us up to try new places or go back to the ones we dig (like BOMA!!).
Couldn't agree with you more! Tried it twice with a good amount of time in between, cold noodles, warm salad, and mediocre service, no need to go for 3! But I agree, to those who haven't been, try it for yourselves!

OP, sad to hear this. Ohana left our list a few years ago. Like most, we had a few wonderful meals here, then we took some family members after raving about it and of course, it was terrible and the service non-existent.

Like others, we continue to be disappointed in our TS meals. We just returned 3 weeks ago and we ate at LeCellier for the last time. The service was poor, the food was average, but totally not worth the cost. We were all in agreement when we walked out, that while we love the cheese soup, we can't justify the cost for what we get there.

However, there are still a few places that we enjoy, but I can count those on 1 hand now.

Unfortunately, my family has decided to stop going to Ohana and Boma. Boma used to be my favorite. I'm a big fan of buffets and ethnic foods (or trying new foods in general). What it came down to:

- We eat wayyy too much at the AYCE and Buffet style - to the point where we're sick and don't feel like being at the parks.

- The food quality went down a bit

- We needed to change it up and try new places.

Now, rather than doing two single-credit places, we are doing one deluxe. Our restaurants for this year are:
- Chefs de France
- Cali Grill
- Narcoossee's
- Kouzzina for breakfast
- 50's Primetime cafe
- Portobello

On nights we don't have a reservation, we'll do WG Puck Cafe' and AoA food court.

We had an 8:10 ADR at Ohana on Friday, 10/25. We were seated quickly and our server was friendly and nice but the service was slow. It took more than FOREVER for drinks to come out, for our first courses to come out, for them to come around with the different meats, for dessert to be served. DH was so tired of waiting he wanted to tell them to just forget dessert because he didn't want it that bad anyway. We didn't complain but the server brought us extra scoops of ice cream with Mickey sprinkles and DH felt it was because they knew they were so slow and it was their way of trying to make up for it. Same very slow service the night before at Rose and Crown. Also had surprisingly slow service at Sanaa the night before that. Not sure if they have cut back on staff or what? :confused3

It's a serious disappointment for us too. It used to be so awesome!

We talked about complaining, but in all honesty, we just wanted to leave. It was all very unpleasant and there wasn't anything that could have been remedied. The food was just poorly prepared and the service was rushed. It seems as though it's standard protocol there these days. I'm guessing that some bean counter figured out that if they could speed everyone up by X minutes, then they could get a whole other seating in there each night.

As long as it's booked solid each night from open to close, they don't much care. Very sad.

I wouldn't say it's nothing that can't be remedied (maybe not for you, but for future patrons) because it's obviously the policy at this particular restaurant to serve as quickly as possible and get 'em out the door to turn the table for the next guests.

If there are enough complaints, MAYBE they will change it. If there are no complaints it'll never change. In fact they could say "Hey, nobody complains, they still pack the joint, let's try to move 'em out even faster."

And if you are reading here and thinking of going, make sure you tell your server to slow down if you think it's going too fast.

But if you haven't been, I don't really recommend cancelling because this restaurant has about equal bad and good reviews - even on this single thread, there are just about as many "it was awesome" as "it sucked." There's no more polarizing restaurant in the World at this point.

I was there when Ohana FIRST opened...much different than today. I have given it many chances over the years, but is generally just OK at it's best.

It's really sad--CR has CA Grill, WL has Artist's Point, GF has V&A (and Citrico's, and Narcoossee's). Poly has Ohana??

I wish they would rethink dining.

Scott

Poly also has Kona. We have dinner there every trip and have never had a bad meal in 8 years. Definitely give Kona a try.

FWIW, we've tried 'Ohana 3 times over the years and all 3 times it was lackluster, at best. We've officially given up on it.

It saddens me to see so many bad reviews on Ohana. My DW and I love eating here and have been there 4 times, all for dinner. We could not get reservations there for our last trip, as it was a last minute trip. We went to the restaurant anyway, and was told they were full for the evening, but could wait to see if anyone cancelled. I sat my wife at the bar, and went back to receptionist and told her how much we enjoy the place, and how we have eaten there every trip since we have been together. She said give her a minute, and she came back and said she had a table for us. I thanked her and offered her a tip and she refused my money and said to just enjoy our meal. I know every CM is not going to have that Disney smile 24/7 but you always remember the ones that add a little extra to your vacation. I have always had that at Ohana.

Poly also has Kona. We have dinner there every trip and have never had a bad meal in 8 years. Definitely give Kona a try.

Kona is fine but this is like saying "The Grand Floridian has the GF Cafe." The resort deserves more than a good all-day coffee shop.
