I think we are done with Ohana

We had an 8:10 ADR at Ohana on Friday, 10/25. We were seated quickly and our server was friendly and nice but the service was slow. It took more than FOREVER for drinks to come out, for our first courses to come out, for them to come around with the different meats, for dessert to be served. DH was so tired of waiting he wanted to tell them to just forget dessert because he didn't want it that bad anyway. We didn't complain but the server brought us extra scoops of ice cream with Mickey sprinkles and DH felt it was because they knew they were so slow and it was their way of trying to make up for it. Same very slow service the night before at Rose and Crown. Also had surprisingly slow service at Sanaa the night before that. Not sure if they have cut back on staff or what? :confused3
Yep....just like the cut-back on our hospital staff.....it's not about the customer,it's about the bottom line;they could care less...and the worst part is that there is little we can do about in in either case...complain all you want....the bottom line IS the bottom line...and why wouldn't someone hold these "slowpokes"with their "bad service"accountable......because adding more servers,or more efficient servers(who probably get paid more)would effect the bottom line...less money for the already "well heeled' sheesh..I went there.:rolleyes1:rolleyes::drinking1

Just back from our trip, and other than TWO, we are done with Disney restaurants.

Food terrible, cost high.

We had dinner at 'Ohana in May. We had a 9:00 pm ADR. That's all I could get. I was so worried the food would be the dregs of the day. It was, by far, our best meal of the week. Everything was fresh, hot, juicy, and delicious! We didn't feel rushed at all. We took our time, ordered seconds (and thirds!), and thoroughly enjoyed our meal!

That sucks.Maybe I have to rethink the DP.What 2 were good/decent?

Artist Point And Via Napoli. ( forgot Narcossee's !!!! We like that one too! )

We find those two to be very good, although expensive. The meals, at least for us, are good enough to spend the money on.

For perspective, we've taken 7 trips over the last 8 years. Free dining twice, upgrading to deluxe once. Purchased deluxe dining 4 times. And this trip we paid out of pocket with Tables in Wonderland card. We are also from a rural area that lacks a high number of quality dining options, by that I mean, it doesn't take a whole lot to impress us. :confused3

Our trip this year we've labeled as "transitional". Done with the vast majority Disney Restaurants, and will be going off property from here on out. We have a bit of an advantage since we have a vehicle and can do this.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you avoid sophisticated food at parks and character buffets, you'll find Disney dining is still as fine as it ever was.

It seems the Ohana reviews, like many other Disney restaurants, have been spotty lately. Back in July we had a 5:45 reservation, were seated immediately, had excellent service, and the food was great. I'm hoping it's the same in 2 weeks.

I wish this thread had been around in October before my last trip. DH and I had breakfast and dinner at Ohana and I was sooooo excited to try it. I had only heard people gush about it. I was pretty disappointed. I felt like our waiter at dinner was mad at us. Food was thrown down with no eye contact. The bread was dry and the veggies were so salty!! I had to make the ADR months in advance, so there was a big build up and quite a let down. I do encourage people to try it for themselves, but am glad this thread exists as a heads up that not all reviews are glowing!

I am so nervous cause we have only been there once, this was in September of this year (2013) but are going back on Jan. 10, 2014 for my "turning 20 twice birthday".
We had a great experience our first visit there in September. I mean the food was spot on and the service was fabulous.
It was so good we wished we had of had two ressies for our trip.
But I've read so many bad reviews since that meal that I'm so scared it will be a bad experience and I don't want that for my birthday :(

I will say I read a ton of bad reviews BEFORE we went for our first time this year and was so nervous then because I'm the family planner and would be so disappointed if my family was disappointed. But it turned out awesome.

So maybe it will be the same... or should I try something else?!? I don't know what to do :(

Like any restaurant they can have an off night, but 3 times, I think may be a trend. We tried Ohana once after reading that so many loved the experience. It was just OK. The food was not bad, but the experience was not what we expected for the price. We felt very rushed--the food just kept coming with no time to really enjoy. We tried Kona on our next trip and have visited there while at the Poly, many times since.

We went went in June on our last trip. It was the one adr I HAD to have, and we made it about 100 days out.

Getting seated was fine, as we were brought to our table 15 minutes early (a trend that entire trip!) we got our drinks and bread and waited... And waited... And waited...

Finally a server at another table realized we were still waiting for our appetizers and got them for us. The rest of the meal was OK. Not terrible, but nothing to warrant the amazing reviews I've heard from so many people.

I'm not saying I'll never go back, but we are most likely skipping it the next trip. There's just too many other places I want to try.

Kona is fine but this is like saying "The Grand Floridian has the GF Cafe." The resort deserves more than a good all-day coffee shop.

I disagree. I think that Kona is far better than 'Ohana in all aspects -- food, service and value -- and always has been. And the GF Café is one of our favorites too. Service has always been great and so has the food.

Same here. If I had huge eaters I'd suggest it because our food was good and there was a TON that came (too) quickly. I've realized that we like a calmer evening meal, a rarity at WDW!

That's too bad... Ohana was our favorite restaurant when we went, last year. I've been hearing so many complaints about the food, lately... Makes me wonder if I should skip the dining plan all together. But it's so much more convenient for us...

Sorry to hear this. We had a good experience at 'Ohana for dinner on our last trip and thought the food and overall experience was good; but it was a "must do at least once" meal for us since we had never ate there before. We were not on the dining plan and it was a pricey meal for my family - $214 for our dinner there. Again it was a nice experience to have at least once, but it wasn't something that swept us away or that we feel is a "must do on every trip" type of meal. So considering the cost and the fact that there are other Disney restaurants we would like to try we probably won't go back to 'Ohana for dinner unless we have free dining or book the character breakfast instead. Kona is still on our short list of restaurants to try (for both breakfast and dinner) so we may try to eat there on our next trip.

:)

We have never been to this restaurant and I have it booked for our trip. I'm ignoring all the negative and am going to judge it for myself. I learned from my 1st trip that everyones opinion is different, we may like it but I will be the judge of that. I take everyones opinion but I really want to try this restaurant because there is so many positive remarks for ohanas. I know having worked in the restaurant industry that any restaurant can have a off night. I would go for it and try it :)

We've been for breakfast a few times and love it! Like you said, some of our "never do again" restaurants are others' favorites!

My daughter voted it best food on our 2012 trip of the 8 TS meals we had. Both children ate some of everything including salad. :faint: We got in close to opening and our server was really nice. Told us to pace ourselves and if they came by with meat and we weren’t ready to make sure and say so and also to let them know if the meat wasn’t cooked well. We enjoyed everything.

We skipped it in 2013 as we didn’t have the dining plan and I only had money for 3 TS meals, but I do have it booked on our upcoming trip which is for my dd’s birthday since she loved it so much. We’ll see. Hollywood and Vine gets awful reviews and we love that one too.

We were there in September and I have mixed reviews - the food was delicious but the service was kind of bad. Not so awful that I'd never go back but it seemed like our server wasn't really sure how to, well, serve. Our food did get kind of dumped on the table and way too fast. At first.

I had pre-ordered a cake for my husband's birthday to be delivered to the table. When the time came for dessert no servers were anywhere to be found. So, we had all of our food served in record time but sat there for what felt like forever (maybe 30 minutes) waiting for a cake they pretty much just had to pull out of the fridge and the SAME DESSERT THEY SERVE TO EVERY TABLE. Seems like it should have just taken a minute or two since they basically mass produce everything.

So, while I like to enjoy a nice easy pace for dinner - we had the opposite experience of many here in that we sat there for a really long time with very antsy children. My biggest issue was that there was no explanation or apology for the delay. Things happen. I get that. Good customer service means you communicate to the guests so they can plan accordingly. The lack of communication/service is enough to make me skip it on my next trip but probably not forever.
