I'm also thinking about adding on another 50 but I only have a "measly" 150 right now. We tend to collect resorts. BLT was first, then VWL and next will be BCV! (We like split stays, obviously.)

At this point, everything is relative to point purchases. I find myself thinking long and hard whenever I want to buy anything over $100 or so ... "Geez, that's about a fifth of the down payment for 50 points!"

How do you get by on that??? I mean, we have 155 and I'm just glad I don't have to plan my trips with your "measly" 150 points only!!!

I think we are the low rent neighborhood of dvc!

At 380 points I've been put on Time Out and Restriction until my last add on is paid off. Which isn't fair since I'm borrowed out through 2012.

maybe if/when the tiered rewards come along, i'll be able to convince her

I definitely can't talk you out of it. We just became owners in April 2010 with an initial 450 point purchase at BLT. Over the next year, we added on 3x to bring us up to 650. So... yeah. No talking you out of it here.

I'm in exactly your situation! We are a family of 5 and have 350 points! I'm thinking of adding on 150 or 200 points!

I became a member in Nov. 2010. I was thinking about 160 points during our tour with a dvc guide, but decided to purchase 200. Five days later, after I got home, I called our guide back and purchased 200 more. After our first trip in March 2011, we decided to add on again. I got paperwork for a 150 point add-on, but changed my mind before signing and decided to add 400 points instead. Six months after joining, I now have 800 points at BLT. For me, I wanted to own BLT and I wanted to buy direct, so the prospect of a sellout this year added a lot of impetus. I am done for now, but one day I will need to add 200 more to join the 1000 point club.

If this shows you anything, it is that dvc is a disease. You cannot be cured, and no one can stop you from doing this. It is going to happen. My condolences to your bank account...

Glad we're not the only ones in this situation! Purchased 220 points at AKL last year; signed a contract to add on 100 more at BLT a couple of weeks ago when we were at WDW for our most recent vacation. But then we got home and I said, "If we're going to add on 100 points, we might as well make it 150 so we can at least spend a whole week at BLT with an MK view." LOL! So now we have a revised contract and already I'm saying to DH, "Just think, only 130 more points and we'll have a nice even 500." One of these days...
