Well, it's almost been a year since our last trip to WDW and I'm almost in tears knowing that another trip would be a foolish thing (not practical) to do and listening to DS6 ask if we have enough money to go to WDW... it's breaking my heart.

We don't have the money (not that that's every stopped us before!) but DS20 is headed back to college and that's expensive, I've had to stop working due to this stage IV breast cancer, and our medical bills will probably be lifelong now.

Unless we win a trip, we'll really never be able to afford a trip again. It would always be "foolish." But I also can't put a price on how being in WDW makes me (and the family) FEEL. My docs won't even give me a "how long do I have" answer....I get answers like "some people have made it 10 years!".... TEN YEARS? I plan on being around a lot longer than that.

All my family lives here, too....we couldn't just "sneak" down to WDW...they'd all know so they could wag their heads and talk amongst themselves at how irresponsible I am.

I really just want to vent/pout to my dear friends here who would understand.
I wonder if Make A Wish takes grown ups? j/k.

Much love,
Beth

:grouphug: Any chance you could maybe swing a long weekend off property? :wizard:

I was thinking about ::::gasp::::: off property! But sometimes an All Star is just as cheap. It would just be Dh, DS6 and myself. DS17 just went with his band.

I'm on a mission now to do this the most economical way I can. Food is never a big cost with us. We usually just have breakfast in the room and then one big meal a day and a snack later, so I can't cut costs there.

We do have AAA if that will save us on tickets. I don't mind not park hopping and don't need any extras, just the base tickets.

We will be driving. We usually leave Friday after Jim gets off work and do down to south of Jax. and stay at a cheapie motel off the Interstate. Then we arrive at WDW around noon and get a full day in. We've had annual passes for the past two years. Just not used to these new MYW things.

I just need a dose of Disney so badly. I'm trying to find a way to do it for under $1,000..... for 7 days/6 nights....or maybe 6 days/5 nights.....

OK you 70 people who've viewed this post......... help me out here.

I hope you can swing it financially. It sounds like you could use a break right now. I wish you health and happiness.

How about 5 days, 5 nights?

5 day Hopper $550
Hotel $250
Food,etc. $200
Total $1,000

You would need to go off-season, then the $50/night would get you a far better hotel than you think. $200 for food for 5 days is really pushing it. But you could get real close to $1,000.

It sounds like you could you use a dose of Disney. I haven't crunched the numbers but if you are driving and eating only one meal in the parks, it should be doable. It may be a little more than $1000 but close. I wouldn't worry about what your family thinks, they just don't understand the lure of Disney. Here's hoping you get your wish!

Well, I had a very nice lady at AAA helping me here and at least my dream is on hold!

She can do 7 nights for us at Pop Century with 7 day base only passes for the 3 of us for $1200 including tax. IS THIS GOOD????? I have no idea!

We'd also be there during DS6's 7th birthday and DH and my 13th anniversary, so it'll save us the money we'd spend on DS6's bday (at least $100 on party and $100 on gifts) and our anniversary gifts to each other (probably about $200 total)..... can you see me justifying this now... LOL!

The only thing that surprised me is that they need the balance in full by May 15th. We're used to paying the balance at check in. Is this something new?

Even if this never happens, I am so so so happy right now!!!

Hugs all around!

Off season (Sept.) is right around the corner at the value resorts! Perhaps you can get the free dining plan? If you work with a travel agent, see if he/she can crunch some numbers for you and maybe you'll get a good price.

Or, you can maybe get AAA rate on the room and eat cheaply? Since you'd have a car, you can always buy breakfast foods for in the room, snacks, water bottles, etc. and that's a big savings.

Don't worry about what your family thinks. You know how happy Disney makes you and your immediate family, and I can't think of a better reason to go than to grab some happiness and make good memories. I think every cancer survivor should take a trip to Disney--after all you've been through, you deserve it.

All the best to you. I hope that you can make it back to Disney soon.

If she did it as a package, the balance would be due now. If she books it room only and then you get tickets somewhere else, (or add them when you check in) it would be room only and the remaining would be due at check in. I really hope you guys get to go, I sooo totally understand about the family thinking you're "irresponsible". Mine does too, that's ok with me. Good luck and keep us posted!

ps. If you do decide to get tickets somewhere else, AAA sells them at a discount, or go to www.ticketmania.com

I read your last message after I posted mine! I think that your quote is pretty good--7 nights on-site hotel plus tickets! Did you get the free meal plan, or are you going before that?

One way we saved for our last trip was that we also skipped b-day parties for the kids (we were in Disney during their b-day month) and anniversary gifts for ourselves. If you balance out what you'd spend on those things, then that is $$ toward the trip. :thumbsup2

I'm happy for you! Keep us posted! :goodvibes

Hmmm... maybe through AAA? We have paid off our upcoming reservations just a bit at a time for years. We usually pay $200 or so each time we need to so that we don't get hit in the face with a hammer at check-in.

I wonder if you could call Disney and find out if they'd apply a AAA rate to a room, quote you, and ask for nothing more than the 1 night deposit? Which is refundable if you cancel with enough time, right?

Don't tell your family you're going/coming whatever. It's none of their business. If you can crunch the numbers and do it, it sounds like that family time will be more important in the long run than a lot of other things.

It's amazing how saving $13 makes you feel! LOL!

I decided to call good old 1-407-W-DISNEY myself..it had been so long!

Talked to a sweetie there and saved myself $13 off the AAA quote! Got a room at Pop Century for July 8 through 15th at $84 per night! She said to check back as codes/savings may come out in a bit. I wasn't sure if they still did codes and such. Do they? We are not AP's anymore and not Florida residents.... Anyway she through in a fridge for us, too. AND we only had to put down one night's deposit and can pay the rest at check in. Whew. That's a big help.

So the OFFICIAL WDW PLANNING LEGAL PAD is out! Oh this is FUN!!

Kevin is thrilled to pieces to be going to WDW for his birthday.....Oh boy Oh joy! Now my chemo just has to behave!

Many thanks so all!!

Oh yes. So far, I've got all the various park hours on all our days, along with parade and fireworks times....

Trying to decide where to request at Pop that will be close to the Food Court without being a premium room.

Has anythiing changed in the past year??
