I'm throwing a 40th b-day party for my DH in November. I plan on putting together a CD full of pictures and would like to put a song or two together with it. The pictures will be from him being a baby to today. Thing is...I've never put together a CD like this before. I'm not sure how many pictures to put on it and I'm not sure how many songs to be with it.

Any ideas? I want the CD to be long enough to enjoy but not too overwhelming with a thousand pics, either. LOL

Any ideas on songs? DH likes ALL kinds of songs. Everything from country, blues, hard rock, easy listening, hip hop...just about anything. He doesn't have a particular "favorite" song or "favorite" genre. So he's making it hard for me. LOL

Basically, I would like something that portrays how much he means to all his family and friends.

You should start by deciding how long you want the slide show to run. Then figure out how long you want each picture on the screen and that will tell you how many pictures you want. Most of the projects I've seen display each picture for anywhere from 5-10 seconds. I would think you would edge toward the shorter length for a lot of pictures or a lot with just a single person. A shorter slide show or one where most pictures have a lot of detail or a lot of people would work better with a longer duration.

I'm actually planning one of these for my niece for her 30th birthday. My starting point is about six second per picture and about a 30 minute slide show. That would be about 300 pictures. As I put it together I'll adjust it when I see how many pictures I find.

For a 40th, it would be fun to include the song "Red, Red, Wine". Not because of the song, but because it's by the group "UB40"

Other song ideas (based on titles, not necessarily lyrics)
Birthday - The Beatles
All Those Years Ago - George Harrison
Back In Time - Huey Lewis
Celebration - Kool and the gang
Through The Years - Kenny Rogers
Time passages - Al Stewart
The Way We Were - Barbra Streisand
Yesterday Once More - The Carpenters

I'm thinking 3-5 seconds a pic would be about right. Total run time under 5 minutes. Watching this kind of thing is like sitting at a stop light, it seems a lot longer than it actually is. It's going to be a lot of work to assemble, and you have to ask yourself how many times it will be viewed after the party for the big 4-0.:)

Green Day's "Time of Your Life" is a favorite of mine - we did something similar for my Mom and it had us all tearing up!

I also like The Beatle's "Yesterday."
