WoW. And today started off so well. I really need a hug...and more importantly your thoughts, prayers and pixie dust as well.

So what happened? Well my whole world seemed to collapse in about 15 minutes today. After an incredibly long day at work today...a day that seemed would never end came to an abrupt hault when my boss calls me in for a meeting, in which I am told, that due to budget constraints, my position has been eliminated and I am now out of a job :(

I don't know what to do now. I mean I know I am young, with tons of opportunities out there. Unfortunatly I just passed on an opportunity to go to another television station because I liked the situation I was in.

But not only is it my work thats suddenly gone, its my social life as well...see I commute 1 hour each way to my work and have been doing so every day since I have moved back to this part of the country. So most of my social life, all of my really good friends, are my co-workers.

And to top it all off, I have been plannign to start college again in the fall studying for a career in education, but now that the job is nonexistent, so is the cash flow that was to help pay for school.

I'm just so frustrated right now...kinda feeling pretty vulnerable. I know in the long run things will work out and that this is probably a wonderful thing, but it's so surreal. I have a lot of decisions to make this week and right now I cant seem to get my mind around any of it.

I've gone from Employee of the Month and Addy award winning producer to Out of work in a matter of weeks...:(

Thanks for listening fellow DISer's...your the best. Thoguhts and advice more than welcome

Did you get any kind of severance or notice at all? This sounds really brutal.

I've been through this type of thing and it's HARD. It's a major blow. But first of all, realize that this is common nowadays and its also not your fault. You need a little time to get through that because that nasty old self-doubt tries to creep in around this time. Then (and I learned that this is VERY important) give yourself time to mourn your loss. You have lost something and you need a chance to deal with that. Do some things that you enjoy and give yourself a chance to take a breath. It's gives you a chance to recharge.

Then hopefully you're ready to move on. The time it takes varies from what I understand. You can maybe take stock in your future now and make sure that you're on the right path. Just be kind to yourself in the beginning. It'll all work out, you'll see. :D

Is there a church in your area? Perhaps you could visit and check out some groups. Know that you are not alone-I'm still looking for a job after I quit grad school a few months ago.

Praying . . .

Good luck, don't let this get you too low. There are lots of oportunities out there for those who want them and you sound like someone who can go and get them.

Hey you guys...thanks for the kind words. I need all the positive vibes I can get.

Was given no notice and a tiny (and I do mean minute, severence package.

I guess what stings more than anything is that I passed up somethings and made a few sacrifices along the way because I had faith in the company and thought it was the right place to be. Thats what stings the most.

Thanks again for your thoughts you guys...i need em!

I understand that feeling of loyalty and not getting the same in return. I think that's one reason I related so much to your original post. Companies seem to have really changed a lot. I don't think that they're being disloyal to us as much as they have a different mindset now that involves only earnings and budget. And it's not really such a bad thing (for the stockholders) unless you're caught in the crossfire. Remember that Disney even did some of this.

Let us know about your progress when you get ready.

Be sure and check into the things you passed up. One or two of them MIGHT still be available even though you might have been told otherwise at the time you passed on 'em.

*hugs*...this stuff is never easy.

My husbands company closed a year ago and the men lost not only their jobs but their pensions...this is after putting in 27 years at this job.
The company reopened a few months ago, the pensions are still gone BUT the jobs came back.
While he waited, he made up a decent resume and took some classes that ended up being paid for because he was jobless.
Check into that scenario too.......school might still be an option for you.

Best wishes and chin up. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and have been successful thus far in the jobs you've had!

Jungle Skipper -- so sorry!!! Don't dispair...this could just be the stepping stone to finding something/somewhere you like even better. What's that old expression? When a door closes, a window opens. Look at this as your window of opportunity. ::yes::

:grouphug:  What an awful day. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

Oh no! Hope things work out for you! From some of your posts that I have read you sound like a personable young man who should be able to find a job he likes! (omg, I'm sounding like a parent!! :) )

Good luck!! :)

 Sorry for what you're going through right now. It sounds like you have a great resume. Keep the positive attitude.

 to you Josh. I am so sorry you are going through this. My husband dealt with this a few years back and it was quite a blow to his ego. Right now the threat of it happening to me at work is right in my face. So know this is (unfortunately) all too common and loyalty to companies doesn't seem to mean as much as it used to. The good news is I am sure something better will come up and you will look back on this day as a blessing in disguise. Hang in there and all my best to you.

Praying that things all work out and a better opportunity comes along soon.

A hug and a handshake to you....

YIKES! That was a terrible day!

I will send best wishes...keep good thoughts....and say some prayers....

GOOD LUCK!!!

I'm sorry that this is happening to you!
Pixie Dust your way......
I know you'll find something better soon!
