Wow! I had no idea there were so many fan fanatics. I need mine for a different reason than the noise - I am fifty and I am female. Do I need to say more?? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

To combat your own personal summers??? :sunny: :rotfl2:

Never heard of this fan thing before, funny that you all describe needing/liking them the same way.

I grew up with no central A/C (In Houston - Yikes!) and eventually my father put a window unit in my bedroom. That's what started my dependency on the noise/air.

I've tried the white noise machines and they just aren't hard core enough for this junkie. :teeth:

Youngest DD and I both sleep with a fan too. Good to see we aren't alone. No matter what time of the year we have it running.

I hear ya there. Box fans make the best. Nice and loud. The only thing I worry about it if someone ever broke into my house I'd sleep right through it. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

For white-noise only, use the radio. Just tune it in inbetween stations and you get white noise. Nothing to pack. :goodvibes

I am so happy to read this thread! I too am a very light sleeper and tend to have miserable experiences when I sleep in hotels at Disney World. I always make the request of a room without a connecting door-this seems to help a little. I too sleep with a white noise machine or as we call it in my house the noise machine. Homedics makes a bunch of them called "sound spas"-you can play different sounds and it also has a clock and a radio. (I think I got mine from Walmart.com I just checked and there are a few diferent models-not sure how portable they are).

I get so frustrated at Disney World because people forget that even though they might still be awake at 1:00 am others are not-door slamming, loud talking and loud tv drive me nuts especially when I just fell alpeep after listening to someone else who was slamming doors, talking loud and blasting tv. This past trip we stayed in a studio at Old Key West. I knew it would be tough to sleep because the connecting door was right in the same room as the beds. (Ive also stayed at Saratoga Srpings and the connecting door is in the foyer not in the room where you sleep.) Our first night the folks next door came in around 2:00am-opened and closed (what seemed like) every drawer in their dresser, turned on the tv just loud enough so I could hear then turned on the jacuzzi. Gosh I was miserable. Once I am awake I have such a tough time getting back to sleep. I try not to complain because most of the time I think people forget they are not home and carry on as if they were.

On most of our trips we try to stay in the cabins at fort Wilderness and we have lovely long nights of sleep....

Thanks for listening to my vents and sweet dreams to all!

I know exactly what you mean. I don't know how many times our DD has come into our room in the middle of the night with the phone saying, "For gosh sakes, didn't you hear the phone ringing?!" I now put it in our room next to the bed if she's out late and needs to call us in an emergency.

I use a fan at night for the noise as well. To me, the white noise machines are just not the same. And maybe some rooms at Pop are different, because although someone said they didn't need one there, we sure did! The a/c was not noisy at all. I bought a small fan to take with us and packed it in my bag. I'll be taking it at the end of the month as well.

I don't know if this has been mentioned along the way , I haven't read every reply, but I was going to say, you can always buy a big box fan from walmart for 10.00 , and just keep it in the box and let them put a bag tag on it. And pick it up at baggage claim and be on your way when you get to florida, and when you leave, you can just leave it behind if you didn't want to take it back home, and you'll only out 10.00. When I worked for the airlines people use to do this all the time. :thumbsup2

I never leave home over night without my fan!!! I have a small desk top that goes in my checked luggage. Must be a fan - not a noise machine. Air must circulate!!! :)

When our whole family goes, we usually get two rooms and take a minimum of two fans.

The Pop Century air conditioners are way too quiet. I don't know if the resorts have fans so I could never take a chance that I might not have one.

I know this sounds stupid but I have always slept with a fan going for the noise. We are staying at the POP in Dec and flying so there is no way I can bring one from home. Are the fans on the airconditioners loud enough the cause noise or do you think the resort would give me one to use? I can hear it now " That crazy lady in room ### is requesting a fan!!!

I need a fan to sleep as well... no matter what the weather I cannot sleep without one. I always pack one of those smaller fans that you can place on a night stand. They work well for me. :thumbsup2

I've been sleeping with a noise machine for years. I find them even more valuable when I travel. It does not drown out DH's breathing/snoring but it dose take care of the noise outside our room. I always pull the batteries out before I put it in my suitcase so it won't accidently turn on and be mistaken for a bomb.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Fanners unite!

We all need to sleep with the box fan too. I bought the noise machine at Radio Shack last year but I have not been happy with it. Thank you for the rental link. This is a definite must do on our next trip.

Biscuitsmom31 and others, I always take a small (a bit over a foot square) fan with me. I have asthma and enjoy the air as much as the noise. :thumbsup2

I also take my own pillows and a set of sheets to throw over the comforter. :sad2:

I have one suitcase set aside just for our Disney trips and keep my just for Disney things in there (please do not ask for a listing and you will not feel the need to flame me). :lmao:

I am also one who occasionally takes my own small private microwave. With this trip and all the free food the microwave will linger in the closet. I would write more about how clean I keep things, how I unplug it, medical issues ad naseum etc. etc. but some of you do not care and those who do would just feel the need to rain on my parade.

This trip I am taking a small vcr to tape our shows while we are out and about. We like being able to see our shows before we go to sleep no matter how late at night that might be. (rest assured I am a qualified technician in how to do this safely) :wave2: I wish that Disney would either provide a vcr in each room or at least have a way to repeat the best shows of the evening later on at night. They surely ought to be able to do that with the ABC schedule. :dance3:

When I start needing to take my own mattress I will retire from traveling. :joker:

Slightly Goofy (who is ducking and running from the onslaught)

At first I thought the OP was talking about needing a ceil fan to be able to sleep which is my problem, I feel sufficated without it. I was gonna advise to stay at POR where they had ceiling fans in the rooms. Im staying at POP this time, I just couldnt afford a moderate. Im hoping I will be so exhausted I will be able to fall asleep but I dont know I always wake up during the night when I am there because Im so excited  :hourglass

Now I am a big germaphobe so I also bring my own sheets, pillow and blanket that I throw over the comforter, I wear flip flops the whole time Im there too..
I actually bought some big plastic suction hooks to hang our wet swimsuits and beach towels on and a big mesh laundry bag for dirty clothes.

Ive got everything now and Im ready to leave..20 more days and counting.. :)

:) It's amazing how many fan "fans" there are! I don't feel so alone now.
The tip about tuning the radio between stations is a good one, I may just try that!
I love this board, I've learned so much! :thanks:

My name is Kim and I am a box fan addict. We take it whenever we travel. Fortunately, we usually drive so it is much easier. We had a power outage recently and it was so hard for us to fall asleep. After so many years of sleeping with the fan, it seems sooooo quiet without it. My addiction, of course, is hereditary. My parents sleep with a box fan, so does my sister's family, and now my children will carry on the family addiction.

i take a fan where ever i go...wal mart has one for 6.97 right now that's about 7 inches across but is plenty noisy and kicks up air quite well
